Very sad video. So moving. My dear old mother was a child then and told me so many stories before all this beautiful place was flooded. I was born in Blessington and those dangerous lakes were a constant worry for my mother worrying about the safety for my dear now departed brothers Pete and Christy, R.I.P and for my sister Maisie and myself. I know it was a great invention at the time giving electricity to so many. But sadly in life it is said 'there is always a price to pay' and that cruel lake claimed so many lives over those years, young, old, suicide victims, I could go on and on forever. And now its no longer needed to supply electricity!!! And look what lies beneath?? So many memories, houses, graves, peoples lives................... For the record, Esther Doyle, were you once Esther Nolan from St. Josephs Rd, Blessington, now married in Newbridge? if so you are my first cousin!!!!How are you? Your cousin Alice Nolan in Feltham, Middesex, England.
To the creator of this video- a big pat on the back. Poulaphuca is a very picturesque place, a place i stop and overcome by its natural beauty. To echo some of the previous comments- the choice of music was VERY apt- the photography really professional, you did a great job on the editing. Tom, we need to see more movies of this standard.
Paying a visit to Blessington and was checking out its history. Interesting video and certainly sad for those who have connections to the area.

Afraid not, Alice. my lot are from round Kiltegan / Baltinglass area
I for one want that lake gone, some call it beautiful. Its a scare on the landscape to me.
I myself grew up in Knockeiren and almost drowned at the lake. Beautiful but treacherous
The choice of music was deliberate and fitting the flooding of 76 houses, it broke up a community and had a major social impact on the area.
Barbours Adagio.

Very, very sad, such a beautiful place destroyed for progress.
Always hated that lake.
It took many lives before it and after.
Could never bear to look at it or be near it.
Thank you for your comments it is interesting to hear other opinions, You can see other comments on www.poulaphuca.com website
I don't think they would get away with doing that today
Oh they would but the compensation would be higher
my grnadad blew up that village when the ppl evacuated from the village no joke , he lost a ear
Very sad
Does anyone else think the music does not match the pictures ?
Couldnt agree more...that was the music for platoon the movie vietnam and all of its madness...not very fitting for a lake
dublinirishkelt
Oh right. I didn't know that. I just thought it was overly sad.
we learn something new :)
narrow minded, think about context
the music is relevant to the context, sad and very moving
Who is narrow minded.?
