I really appreciate your format and breakdown. I have been working with leather for 25 years and I'm thrilled to see others picking it up, and its intimidating at first, but it's fun and easy....thank you again, you have helped kickstart my passion for it after a bit of a funk💜🖤💜

@seamdepoppe68l716 Very awesome, I'm so glad to hear it. If you have a question about leather worl, feel free to comment and the Big Stacks Family will do all we can to help you.
Thank you for making this more accessible to everybody! I like that there are a bunch of things to make and you can do anything from delicate, like fine leather goods (wallets, purses, things like that), to heavy duty hard use items (tool belt carriers, knife sheaths, holsters, etc). You can go so many different ways, and there's a project for everybody. Just don't look at your first project or two and think "wow I suck at this, I'm gonna quit." Everybody's first project comes out like this. Start with inexpensive leather, and lower cost tools. Baby steps. Practice stitching, practice setting a straight stitch line, practice cutting angles and curves. Build a basic skill set, then build on that. Making things is very good for you, it feeds some part of our souls that wishes to be productive.
Ross, thank you for sharing. I totally agree, no one should be discouraged by their first project. If they keep plugging away everyone should see improvement.
Thank you for breaking everything down so far. I want to be able to make things for my family for Christmas this year, I signed up for your newsletter I will start this journey right now.

I’ve been thinking about doing this to make use of hides I get when hunting. My biggest concern has been about space but your video addressed them! I just might jump into this… Since you asked for it, if like to see a video on making a rifle sling.
I guess we all need a kick in the seat of our pants every once in a while. You make really great videos that aren't overproduced and puts an emphasis on making the craft accessible. A friend of mine has been hounding me to start thinking about marketing and selling my work lately, but I've been putting it off. I'm going down to make that dice pouch that's been on my table for a week right now! Thanks for everything you're doing for new makers! 😎👍

I just bought my first leathers and tools and what actually surprised me is that I didn't really need many tools to get started, what you really need is leather, needle, thread, something to punch holes, something to cut and glue. I'm from Spain and for literally 60€ I just bought 0.5 m^2(5.4ft^2) of veg tan leather, 1.5 m^2(16ft^2) of chrome tan leather and some needles and thread. The leather is in pieces of around 0.5x0.5 m (1.64x2 1.64 ft).
@geraldbock1012 thank you for the kind words. Very awesome ideas my friend. I'm looking into a video about making a knife from a blank blade and making a sheath for it.

@TonyNicholls I am definitely going to make one of these, along with the knife itself. I'm in the process of building a shed to get the junk out of my workshop. Hopefully I'll be ready soon, thank you for your idea!
Thanks for sharing some templates! I have been thinking of getting back into leather making, been a few years. I used to make covers for axes and handle protected tors for an axe. Hello Sir You are a great motivator. I really going to start a leather craft business with my painting and calligraphy. Thank you very much. Here is a new subscriber from India. 🙏
excellent video!!! your quality in production of the video tutorial alone is inspiring leave alone the already wonderful explanations of basic tools, possibilities (i didn't even consider belts man i was looking at my longtime purses, satchels and luggage when initially considering this). wonderful video and resource and even if i never end up committing to this craft, i very much hope someone who's as drawn to this as the people that have crafted the beautiful leather pieces i've owned and encountered clearly were. this is a wonderful introductory video and i hope it finds lots of folks. i think that a lot of us, particularly younger folk but truly folks of all ages feel a strange sensation of knowing "everything" but still feeling ultimately lost. in that regard, i believe a trade like this is where we can focus our minds, bodies, and souls, not through any over saturated form of help but through the satisfaction (and frustration, particularly in early stages, but as you explain, the satisfaction through practice and inspiration) of craftsmanship. it's powerful. thank you for sharing a way to start.
You definitely have been a great part of inspiration in getting me motivated to begin leather-crafting. Possible suggestion for a project is actually one I'm going to work on; a leather crown/circlet. I'm going to be using 3 different colored leathers, and since it is technically my first project, I know it won't be great, but I feel like it will really help me get started in understanding the workings of leather-craft. Thank you for your content.

@oakridgereview1359 I'm not much into guns & holsters, but I can definitely relate with all the low quality belts, sheaths, and wallets that are out there now. That's why I started making my own.
@DeadlyPants1404 You can buy decent veg tan at Hobby Lobby, just wait for a sale to get a decent price as well. If you want to shop online, go to Weaver, Springfield, or Tandy. You can also buy straight from the tanneries, but usually they are larger pieces.
Here's a question for you. I have been doing Lapidary work for many years and recently picked up on leather work - what projects do you recommend that combine Lapidary, especially cabochons, and leather?
@PhillMetal Im afraid I don't know much about making jewelry or anything else from gemstones, my friend. Try searching on Pintetest for some inspiration. That is usually a great source for ideas.

@mrdaveclements It all depends on what stage you are at. If you haven't done any leather working yet, you can buy leather scraps from your local hobby store and practice with those first. Once you feel a bit more comfortable, Tandy Leather sells "Ecomony" Leather which is veg Tan leather with some imperfections. It's a bit cheaper than regular veg tan, but not by miles.
