It's actually a bit refreshing that their plotline, unlike most, didn't involve cheating. Even here, Alec never cheated on her with Magnus and even apologized and got her consent. While it's not great that Lydia will be mostly known for this role, it's still kind of nice to see it end that way

Yes also that when Alec breaks the kiss to look at Magnus it's like he is checking with his eyes for consent to keep going. He didn't give Magnus a choice at first just grabbed him and went for it but he had so much respect for Magnus as a person that he wanted to make sure that continuing was okay with Magnus and once Alec saw Magnus didn't want it to stop he kept going ❤ best kissing scene ftw
The fact that Lydia understood and even told him that he deserves to be happy even if it wasn't with her just proves how truly awesome she is. She's being left at the altar and she isn't upset or throwing a fit, she's accepting the fact that Alec isn't the one she's supposed to be with and I praise her for that. It's very rare that you see movies or TV shows show something like this.

I love this scene but my favorite part is this part, 3:01 when the music quiets down as Alec makes his decision to go to Magnus. You can literally hear his heart beat, its calm and steady. He’s not freaking out cause he knows exactly what he’s doing and that’s choosing his own heart, choosing Magnus.

I love that Lydia checks with Alec at 01:32 to make sure he still wants to do this. She understands the sacrifice he is willing to make for his family. I think she respects his determination but has mixed feelings, judging from her expression a few seconds later. I don't think she loves Alec, not romantically anyway, but I think she obviously cares for him, and his family. I imagine she's disappointed but also relieved that she won't trap him in a loveless, political marriage. Their relationship would likely have become strained over time and they would have grown to resent each other. She's right that Alec (and she herself) deserves to be happy. I wish we had seen more of her in the series. She was a great addition to the cast. Obviously, Alec and Magnus are the focus of this scene but I really like every part of it. Every actor is on point here, and the music fits it perfectly. Really a great scene.....Also, the silent brother tilting his head at 03:37 like "uh...what?" is kind of hilarious.

The way his eyes never leave Magnus even while he walks down the aisle and says enough to his mother. I honestly stopped breathing.
One of the several things I love about this scene is that Magnus confidently stops Maryse midway while she talks but we can see how underconfident he actually is. He doesn't think that Alec would actually choose him, he is still unsure. We can see how he has this slight change of expression when Alec finally starts walking towards him. Till then he was just hoping and waiting to see what would Alec choose and then he finally has that sense of relief and happiness when Alec starts to walk towards him. Just🥰🥰🥰 also, it's 2020 and I'm still hooked on this scene.

This was the second Alec stopped worrying what others think and what he is “supposed” to do and started following his heart. The end of mad/pissed off Alec was a great thing to watch 😍
I am still not over this scene! The way Alec went from having a panic attack to walking down the aisle to kiss Magnus...it's just so beautiful! I love that Magnus said nothing. His presence alone was enough to make Alec change his mind and choose love over obligation. This will forever be a favorite moment of mine! It just shows how strong their love was even at the beginning.

I'll never forget that first time I watched this scene and how I felt about it. I had gotten no context of the story and characters. Not even in the slightest. Just randomly stumbled across this scene and decided to watch it for no reason.
Idk if someone has ever been in an experience similar to me, but the first time I had seen this, I took Magnus as a shy and timid dude. It felt like he's gathered a lot of courage to be in that place and give it all he's got to convince Alec to change his mind. It was such a nice feeling to see that he spoke nothing at all, just stood there silent as if ready to accept whatever the fate allowed (while also having his mind set that he'd not let things lose from his hand at any cost). Alec on the other hand seemed like a very straightforward and confident guy, who doesn't care about anything else in the moment. He just goes for what he desires, mainly thinking of his lover first, prioritizing what he might be here for. It all just went in a flash and I can't describe how my breathe was literally stuck in my throat when they kissed. Even till the very end, it felt like Magnus is pretending to leave everything behind and just be in the moment, while Alec was confident as ever to choose what was his right.
What I want to prove from this long ass comment is that without any context, this is how it feels to watch this scene. While the reality of the show is completely opposite. It's Magnus who's full of experience, witty, and confident. And Alec is the one unprepared, and very cautious in his actions, but willing to send everything to hell and just do what it needs to be done.
It's crazy that the scene can bring you a totally different feeling on your first watch when you have nothing in your mind about the story and background.
I wish though, that I could experience this scene just like the very first time, again and again. I keep visiting it for that type of feeling but it doesn't feel the same of course. One of the reasons being that I know the characters and purpose now. It somehow changes the whole perception, making it impossible to watch it with what you perceive it like I did.

Everyone hates Lydia but she was so lovely in this scene. The perfect example of what a grown adult should do
I would like to just talk about the wonderful song choices for this series. The first song here "War of Hearts" by Ruelle, is all about loving someone you shouldn't love, and even though you try your best not to love them you can't help it. You would die without them. And then we flash forward to Malec's wedding and the song is "I get to love you" by Ruelle. The song is about loving someone, and it's the best thing that has ever happened to Alec and Magnus, they GET to love each other. Not only are the two songs by the same singer, which symbolizes how it is still their story, and the only thing that has changed is the fact that they don't have to hide anymore. They are still the same people, however, instead of trying not to love each other they now get to love each other. "I can't help but love you, even though I try not to" and "I get to love you, it's the best thing that I'll ever do" the parallels of the songs, written by the same person, is amazing and I could talk about it for hours on end. I just love how Magnus fought hard to claim the love he knew they shared. Even when Alec was doubtful he never stopped, all through the show his love for Alec was consistent.

The looks on everyone's faces are so interesting to watch. The fact that Izzy was stone-faced when looking at Lydia, but has her first genuine smile of the scene when Magnus enters. The tilt to the side of the Silent Brother's head. Simon's look of amazement. Hodge and Robert's amused/embarrassed looks at Maryse's outrage.
