I think this scene does a really good job of showing how much Alec has actually thought about it. He's thought about the prospect of being with Magnus, and what he might lost if he were to follow through with that. As little reciprocation as we see from Alec (compared to how blatant Magnus always is), this scene shows he hasn't been as immune as he's been trying to seem.

@@brandi17ableExactly. Alec was attracted to Magnus the moment they first met, but he was never raised to address such emotions, so he never thought he could or should have them.
It made me sad that Alec’s grown up believing that he everything he does has to be of benefit to his family and/or the clave. It never went through his mind that marriage could be more than some kind of political alliance.

Have you read the books? Alec held Magnus's heart in his palms and that stupid Nephilim didn't even know that. The amount of heartbreak Alexander put Magnus through in City of Ashes and Glass made me want to smack him on the head.

I don't blame him for his crush on Jace either. But the very least he should understand Magnus does everything, even risks his own life because of his love for Alexander. He needs to acknowledge his own feelings towards Magnus instead of leaving him hanging and hoping.

Their acting in this scene..incredible! Matt conveyed the confusion Alec was feeling so well!! And Harry conveyed how Magnus was feeling, the love he had for Alec and how badly he wanted Alec to choose him.This is why I fell in love with this show! The storylines always keep u at the edge of ur seat, the characters are all so different but work together amazingly, and THIS COUPLEEE!!!Malec's journey to get where they are at now is just..amazing

Such a great scene setting up Alec's choice later on in this episode. Love Alec's boyish tone when he's confused. You can see him put his macho facade on again at 1:00, turn around and go on the offensive against Magnus.
And he did ask again. Just by standing there, in the church, asking Alec to actively decide for or against him.

Their chemistry is so amazing. You can feel the tension.
I swear Harry is way too good at expressing all those emotions - every time I watch this clip, he rips my heart out of my chest with that look on his face. You can literally see how hurt Magnus was. 💔

alec has tears in his eyes when magnus says "tell me your in love with lydia" and then when magnus says "i know you feel what i feel".
He cant hide from himself anymore, magnus is telling him the truth about himself. A really sad moment for Alec, he realised that his life was a lie. Poor baby and thanks magnus for care about him more than his family did.

Alec realized that Magnus was using his magic on him to make him feel tingles, his heart to beat faster, etc and that put Alec on the defensive. I imagine Alec didn’t like being magically/emotionally manipulated especially when he really doesn’t want to marry Lydia but thinks that that’s what he’s supposed to do for the sake of his family.
Harry had such a baby face in the earlier scenes, when he got that beard he stole the show even more than he did usually!😂

You know, it's funny, i gathered from watching this scene that Magnus figured Alec had very little experience with relationships but it was a surprise to me that he freaked out a bit when he learned that Alec was a virgin.
I’m surprised that Magnus was surprised given that anytime Magnus has flirted with Alec, Alec’s been confused by it to say the least. When Magnus tells Alec that he wants to see Alec again, Alec’s response is to ask why. Almost anyone can see the complete lack of experience Alec has in dating, flirting or even showing mild interest.

If Magnus hadn’t shown up at the wedding, I’m pretty sure Alec would’ve gotten married and regretted it while he was still going through the motions of the wedding. I think when he saw Magnus at the wedding was when he finally believed that Magnus liked him. Truly I think that until that moment, Alec had convinced himself that no one would be attracted to him. Alec probably thought that Magnus was just just messing with him by flirting knowing that Alec gets shy and stutters when he’s nervous.
When Alec says “I could lose my family, my career, everything” that is what everyone who is afraid to come out thinks! I just love this scene!!

To be perfectly honest the way that Alec acted here is not surprising and very realistic.. I love the acting from both of them . He has lived his whole life suppressing his sexuality and handling his responsibilities. Magnus is that unexpected force that threatens everything he ever believed about himself and his duty. I know that magnus maybe hurt but Alec's defensive attitude is understandable

Neither does Magnus. He's the one with his heart on the line here, and Alec isn't the only one who's terrified. Mags understands why Alec is in the closet, probably even better than Alec himself given his prior experience with Shadowhunter culture (particularly the Clave), but he's trying to get him to at least be honest with himself. He had it right when he called Alec out on his deal with Lydia. Loveless marriage is a disservice to all parties involved, especially kids when they come along.
I think it wouldn’t have been so upsetting to Alec if Magnus hadn’t used his magic to show Alec these “symptoms” ( 0:38 ). That put Alec on the defensive, which sucks, because he already feels that the people around him manipulate him for their own ends. It’s a bad look for Magnus and makes him seem like one other person who doesn’t care about Alec, only what they can get Alec to do for them.
