Her performance in "Jules and Jim" is one of the most magical performances ever put on film.
Classic.
Unforgettable Jeanne in "Jules et Jim" by François Truffaut. It's such a good movie.
So many men were crazy about her.
RIP
My favorite film. And her performance is beyind praise. Glorious.
i just realized that "risky" questions for americans are pretty normal to the french and that is why she seemed so calm lol
Jeanne was a master actress of the 'New Wave' cinema which I studied for my French 'A' Level in 1977. She speaks without the usual French inflections. A very underrated actress I think. RIP
In France she is considered as the best actress of the "Nouvelle Vague".
She's recondite rather than underrated.
You are wrong. Jeanne Moreau was a never underrated, never. Always very active in her work, and deeply respected. Her interviews are so bright, I always followed her. Strong personality.
I imagine this is exactly how Dick Cavit would act if he were on a date.
Yes awkward.
You mean he's rather clumsy...
Agreed, he'd be smitten and show it. So cute.
Yes . And it would most likely be a date. Not a second one.
This is like going on a date with someone you’ve never really met and have nothing in common with.
My desktop wallpaper of choice, for quite some time now, has been that indelible image of Jeanne Moreau wandering about in the rain, with the only company of the loneliest trumpet sound you will ever hear, as someone once put it.
Trumpet by Miles Davis
Ah, yes. Elevator to the Gallows. The bit with Jeanne walking amidst the Paris rain to Miles, searching for her lover, is one of my best sequences of all film. And, Jeanne is one of my all time favorite actresses, from any country, from anytime. She is a rare beauty with such depth, intelligence, and poetry. What a woman. I would've given anything to have met her. Just to watch her walk. In the rain.
It would be much better if Dick didn't start with "I am in love with you" antick. That stiffed the atmosphere.
I love how she says "once". And I don't mean to diminish Jeanne Moreau in this video, but what Lee Marvin says about reading scripts: "either there's something wrong with the script, or something wrong within *you* ..." that's absolutely brilliant and illuminating
I haven’t heard her speak English and must say I’m floored: I expected a thicker French accent.
Her mother was English.
@@nataliedelagrandiere4022 That clears that up! Thanks: I wasn’t aware of that.
Me too. I've never seen her speak English before. Wiki says her mother was from Oldham, but there's nothing of Oldham in her accent.
@@boncoeur7229 Yes, I've only ever listened to interviews where she speaks French (like Radioscopie etc). Had no idea until I saw this video.
Her mother was English lol ... this helps . But she still drop the "h"s
Many actors are by-lingual, Jeanie Moreau was one of the many beautiful actors we grew up with. But the clip I just watched about Lee Marvin's Academy Award for "Cat Biliou" and their interview was a treasure. Lee Marvin was so versatile and could play any part. Paint you Wagon was another treasure and I still love his ""Born under a wandering Star". They were true actors not today's puffed up Tom Cruises. Thanks for the memories.
Rest In Power Lee Marvin and Jeanne Moreau, it's sad she died 30-years after Lee.
La beauté, la classe
I was very surprised to hear her speak English without a trace of an accent.
She sounds almost midwestern American here!
Her mum was English, no wonder
What a dress! She’s stunning!
Hollywood is so lacking class such as hers. Class, and intelligence.
That Marine has her back
I find that most French actors don't really care about 'scripts', they seem to 'trust' directors more. I mean Jean-Louis Trintignant in his early days was like that too.
3:57 Good Lord, they're almost TOO polite.
I love Jean Moreau. Fascinating woman. She & Marvin & Jack Palance were wonderful in MONTE WALSH. I bought the movie.
Love Monte Walsh too, I gather this pairing of Marvin and Moreau roughly coincided or followed that films' release.
Very lovely and interesting actress, they don't make 'em like this anymore. Winslet and Blanchett are our only hope.
"Magic," is the Key Operative,...Word!
Think we were robbed here. That interview could've really taken off if it'd been given more time.
Jeanne Moraud was a very good actress ,very clever ,at ease in any situation with a very good level.
Dick is smitten as a kitten avec la femme! She has an innate sensual quality few women possess. As well as acting, she was a writer, producer, director and accomplished singer. A Renaissance woman. I also like her reference to the " magic circle. " Another of my favorite actors, Jack Lemmon, was known to have said before a scene, " It's MAGIC time! " This fits so well. Every person on the set and in the scene is totally focused on the NOW. And frequently, something spellbinding is captured on film. For the definitive interview, see James Lipton in Paris.

I think there is more to it. Please can we have Part 2?
Gosh, that's an insightful and beautifully written comment you've posted. You are a wordsmith, sir.
"magic circle," she probably was into High Magick, and wanted to talk about that. there's that direct indirect, and somtimes very literal link between filmmaking and Magick.
Marilu Henner, best known for her role as Elaine Nardo on the TV show Taxi, only ever had to read a script once. From there she could not only repeat her lines verbatim years later, but often prompted other actors on the set who'd forgotten their own lines. This is because she's one of about a dozen people in the world proven to have total recall of every moment of her post-infancy waking life.
@John H The keyword in that phrase is "proven".😉
Love her, especially in “Jules and Jim” (and I think she had a minor role in the great “Touchez Pas Au Grisbi”)
I don’t know if the channel reads/responds to comments, but if you guys do, I’d like to ask if you have the Sarah Vaughan interview in the vault (and/ or we’ll ever see it)?
have nothing against the other celebs that were on this show but is this channel ever going to show the Dick Cavett shows where he interviews Jackie Gleason or Art Carney? How about any Honeymooners actors that were a part of the main cast?
JEAN MOREAU IMPLIED - AGE DOES NOT PROTECT YOU FROM LOVE. BUT LOVE, TO SOME EXTENT, PROTECTS YOU FROM AGE. I DEDICATE ALL MY HARDSHIPS TO THE "AZURIN FAMILY" TO MY FIRST COUSIN MARK AZURIN AND MICHAEL AZURIN" ❤️ I'M A SURVIVOR 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏 CAN'T WAIT FOR THE CHAMPAGNE 🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾
Promoting the western Monte Walsh which wasn’t great
This is the American way. French tv would never greet her this way. No fuss about the tv presentator.
How old was she here? She is very captivating
She must be 42 in 1970, considering she was born in 1928.
@@Qwerty-db1js and, still gorgeous.

What stupid questions Cavett was highly overated
Who was she ?. Some Art Deco Actress or something 🤔?
Must google her. Was extremely beautiful in the 50s and 60s, especially her mouth. Truffaut and louis malle were her directors. Most famous for that film with the great actor maurice ronet.
Only one of the most famous french actress of all time.

I enjoyed it. Then again, I'm a fan of Cavett and Marvin, and have had a crush on Moreau since I was a boy.
They don't make legends like her anymore...i mean they don't even make actors lile her anymore 😢
