Talk shows in the 70s were sooooo good!!!! I was a kid then but i would watch all these talk shows even when i did not understand who the guests were - because everyone was so fascinating & entertaining. There is nothing like it now. And celebrities of today are not very interesting…….😊
And the guests then talked. They didn’t have to play a silly game or do some stupid thing.
DITTO!!!!!
I would love to read this book now that I’m older. I love that Steve Allen is engrossed in the book. Probably checking to see if he’s in it and Truman is giggling like a teenager. So you know all the men are impressed.
The awful truth.
I was watching Truman Capote on talk shows in the late Sixties when I was a teenager, and was very fasinated by him. Who is this man with such a strange voice, and such good stories that everyone wants to hear. Have been a fan ever since. Now I am into finding out all I can about Evelyn Keyes. Awesome seeing them here together.
I just watched her in "Johnny O'Clock" last night. She and the movie were both very good.
Loved Truman watched him when ever he was on talk shows
No problem with his voice I just love him on talk shows in the 60s. Truly missed.. ❤️
What a hoot! Steve Allen was real bookaholic. Through the whole interview he sits there READING Evelyn's book! On national TV! I've never seen anything like it.
His wife had a big part in one of her big pictures!
I met him once!
He was fantastic !!! ♥️♥️♥️
What could be more natural?
@@catmother4214 no pretensions!
Wow! Truman's creative mind-set and so spontaneous! He flows with metaphor and verisimilitude and his concept of what constitutes beauty. I could see Steve Allen in a sense practically levitate from his chair ha! I wish he had been conducting the interview as I was taken by Truman's unique semblance of beauty, his means of which he perceived beauty in Charlie Chaplin in his old age, of what for Truman transcended age. It was a flashing and magical moment. I think that Truman's visuals were metaphorically reaching into Charlie's soul, the depth of his character, a true creative genius. I could see Evelyn beginning to connect with it too, a connection to what for me would have developed even further into what was for me the best part of the whole interview. Thanks Alan Eichler for posting this!
💯
Evelyn Keyes was such a lovely Lady. I saw her in the national touring company of No,No Nanette and she was Fabulous.

Truman Capote is so interesting. One of my friends had a photo shoot with him. He enjoyed that shoot.
Love her! I still watch her movies on RUclips. ♥️♥️♥️
Thank you Mr. Eichler for sharing this. Merv G. seemed to engage some of the most entertaining and accomplished people as guesrs. It's a pleasure to see these and I hope there are more to follow.
I read and loved her book.I met the lady here in NOrleans in early 80.sh. We had Two great talks.Miss her.
Four very smart people

Her book is still relevant today. What amazes me about Chaplin is how he went from extreme poverty in London to a mansion high above Lake Geneva! What a man!
I always thought about that as well. In 10 years he went from extreme poverty and sleeping in orphan shelters to being biggest star ever. Fascinating.
And yet back when VCR's came in Chaplin had an entire library shelf of Benny Hill shows and loved to watch him.
It was the English music hall tradition he came from.
@@poetcomic1 As did Julie Andrews, later !
Bizarre how he got away with sleeping with underage girls with impunity because he was adored by the world.
And Tina Turner, too ! From picking cotton to becoming the biggest superstar & ending up living in a mansion in Zurich.
Just loving T.C.; such a beautiful but misunderstood soul.
Hmmm. He wrote some pretty damning things regarding his socialite friends, betraying them all. Did you hear of “Answered Prayers?”
He was a writer
Thank you for posting this. I read her memoir years back in the 80s, have read many many many more bios and memoirs since, and her book still stands out as one of the funniest and most honest of the lot. Very intelligent woman.
Thanks. Here's another: ruclips.net/video/R0jOjjAlS24/видео.html

Alan, Capote went on many television shows yet the record of his appearances isn't here on RUclips. It's very scant, and most are only snippets. Too bad, really. I wish more people would post his appearances. I know he went on Cavett during during this period of his life, when Dick had an abbreviated half-hour show. It's nowhere to be found.
claroscureaux i read it back in the 80s and it was refreshing to read something so honest and intelligent.
I had never really heard of this woman and only came across this because of Capote but I definitely want to read it now. I’m shocked at how candid she is, it’s nice to see someone being genuine.
love he wrap dress possibly DVF
Wow! That was truly remarkable and fascinating conversations. I did wonder why Steve Allen seemed slightly uncomfortable in greeting her and didn’t shake her hand.
She and his wife, Jayne, were in " Enchantment" together.
@@gregorypalmer5403So
1977 AMAZING, Humans are humans.
She tells stories like we are all in on the joke and we aren't
True--but as she keeps talking she brings us into her world.
On every interview Truman did he rubbed his eyes constantly.
DRUGS
Half-baked career, I wouldn't say that.
She was a hottie back then.
Evelyn just came to a great conclusion on her life AND what's his face just abruptly cut her.off and turned to Truman and talked to him ! Never.seen such a rude cutoff, ever!
one can hardly imagine what Truman. would have achieved without the distractions of Hollywood.

She was married to Artie Shaw. I can see why.
john huston said she decorated their house all in white - to her taste, not his.
Truman was so out of it during the last years of his life, it is hard to believe that he was once a great writer. He couldn't even speak coherently at that point.
Booze, pills and coke. 😢
She's really interesting. Griffin became bored and turned back to Truman, who took forever to recall one minor trip to see Chaplin. Wish he'd stuck with Evelyn.

But to have Capote relate this was a gem. A wonderful reflection on Chaplin.
She is quite funny! I loved her book when I was a teenager but when I re read it as an adult, I found it to be a little gossipy.

I read this book.
Merv seems disturbed Keyes wrote the book .
That's because he was a closet case weasel.
Everyone is so impressed with themselves….😂
Strange to hear Truman talk about Chaplin,:he would die later that year

Sat in jail for three months! This and the Bible were my two favorite books to read!
So WHAT did You Do? I'm a Tough Kitty just Let Out. Don't Ask.
She comes across to me as slightly daffy. She has great stories though. Oh my, and then Capote on Chaplin - superb.
I didn't find him superb at all when he was drunk/high
This woman is NUTS!
Just fkn admit which wife you were! I'm falling asleep here!

"you don't have to go all out" but we did, I liked her but hate the tell all stuff
She mentioned 4th of July describing her husband and she died on 4th of July. @4:03"
Max Rookie She was about 61 years old here. Natural beauty.
Merv was a good host
The Evelyn Keyes Movie Channel - www.youtube.com/@ClassicRobbEvelynKeyes
I noticed that Keyes still never mentioned her most famous marriage - to Al Jolson. By most accounts (certainly hers when she rarely DOES talk about it) it was a marriage from Hell.
It was Ruby Keeler who was married to Jolson. Evelyn Keyes played a character based on Ruby in the film "The Jolson Story" with Larry Parks.
@@aeichler You're absolutely RIGHT! BTW: after watching that video I ordered a copy of her book!
It was said that when Evelyn walked in room ßhe turned all heads of the men in the room.
She was married to Artie Shaw from 1957 to 1985.
capote talks of chaplins beauty here....is not far fetched....as a young man he was described that way...ironically when he dressed as a woman.....for his art
More Truman and Steve and less merv 6:18
Wonder if Griffin was out to Capote.
merv was a well known gay man...ava gabor only fooled the rubes....in fact if you were perceptive you would see merv put his boyfriends on camera who were sitting in the audience
Yes, people like him, Rock Hudson and Roddy McDowell were known by everyone in the industry to be gay, but they kept it out of the media.
@@jadezee6316 Merv wasn't the director of the show. Where the camera went during a taping was not something that Merv can control. That's why all of the cameramen have headphones on. They're taking direction from the Director.
When I read the book about Merv Griffin I was shocked when he talked of being with Marlon Brando. lol! Will never think of Brando the same again.
luv her, fun gal....
she looks awesome, gr8 spirit

Bad 70's color! An overall yellowish tint to match the yellow clothes!
She thinks she's now married to Artie Shaw.
Her intonation sucks, she prattles on....boring. I too would rather talk with Truman.
… I found her fascinating. I had no idea she was married to so many powerful men.
She doesnt answer any questions.
🤷♂️🤷♂️
I think Truman and Merv were a tad gay.
Just a “Tad “ 🥳
The seventies and eighties really were the lowpoint of fashion.

not for the teenagers baby🤗
She comes off as a real narcissist.
Big Daddy! The Big Daddy Syndrome!
Burl Ives couldn't have said it better himself !!
clicked on this in error . They made me feel queasy . Uck.
Who dressed Truman?? Yikes!
She was also married to Al Jolson
That was Ruby Keeler.....Keyes was in the Jolson Story
No, she wasn't.
She sets women back a hundred or more years...
You didn't pay close attention or watch to the end of her interview... where she discusses who she "allowed" to choreograph her life.
It was another time and it’s unfair to judge her by your current cultural standards. I consider myself a feminist and I would never make that remark about Miss Keyes. And I’m sure I am much older than you are.
Flaky.
Was Merv gay?
Yes...Gay as a Hatter.
Why do you care about his sexual orientation?
Gat 🌈 as Picnic 🧺 Basket 🥳
@@edglebennett6312 Exactly. Why do some people dwell on it? Do we talk publicly about our daily bm's ? Is that next ? Polygamy ? Very few normal people are interested in some other person's bodily functions, or fluids with other people. Sorry to be indelicate but aren't we done yet with this sad sad self-centered blather?
And why did Capote talk in Baby Talk? Didn't anyone find that disturbing? He had to be 45 -50 years old !
@@gregorypalmer5403 LOL! Unfortunately, RUclips has exposed some very less than smart people across middle America. I don't care what your sexual persuasion is or your religion affiliation. And most definitely not your political party. I just care that a person is highway decent and a kind person.
Truman was boring af.
So funny lol
With all the Narcissism of that tribe to boot.
She is very boring.
so was drunk/high Truman
