    No way the cops figured this out. Someone got caught and decided they didn't want to do time so they snitched

      So you’re saying the cops arrested someone for ‘shoplifting’ and they were so afraid of the sentence that they rolled on a multi-million dollar theft organization. Sounds reasonable!

      @glasshalffull2930 Год назад +14

      @@rhondae8222 So, the alternative: Somebody with some info (probably a source police had already developed) came to police and police put together an extensive case over a year that likely included hours of surveillance, undercover work, wiretaps, bank records tracked, coordination with multiple agencies, interrogation of shoplifters caught, etc, etc, etc. Frankly, doesn’t matter how the investigation started, it was good police work. BTW- Wilmette is a small community that may actually investigate retail crime.

    Me and my husband can't count the number of times we have bought items like this from Ebay over the past several years and the packaging looks suspicious like just one thing was part of the retail packaging cut off. Wasnt the bar code that was cut out as if the item was bought for just a rebate/coupon for when sending the bar code to the company. Sellers wouldnt give a direct answer but would only says things like "yeah well it happens" or " we just buy these in bulk and so items sold as-is as the listing stated"

      Likely outdated merchandise donated by retailers to local food pantries. Walmart cuts out the UPC like that. Others will use Sharpies, which can be removed with rubbing alcohol.

      @@DeathAngelHRA Retailers unload over stock all the time. If the expiration date is near but not past they will sell it in bulk. Legit business will buy a pallet and the sell it to Ebay sellers.

      @@seaturtledogThis is the correct answer. There's many thousands of people that buy pallets of different merchandise to resell online. There's actually a few mom and pop shops near me that sell returns and shelf pulls out of a normal storefront. The reason it's more common to see it from online retailers is because there is no overhead (rent, etc).

    I imagine the punishment for stealing even $25 from the people running this gang would be far more than a simple misdemeanor you get from stealing this product from the actual retailer who it was originally stolen from. That's why consequences matter.
