History lesson. Back in the day it was basically the same I/O shield just different holes opened to match the board. But, if you go back farther in time there was no I/O shield. The case had punch outs for the various ports. As a builder you would manually punch out the pre-cut spots. Printer port and serial port were fairly standard. Also almost every build had a modem.

I suggest not putting any DVD or floppy Drive on the bays but instead putting some fans and having those 5 and 1/4 drive bay covers lift up like a blind so airflow can go through it and cool your system slightly better. Bro, you have a hot box that needs to be in excellent cooling condition.

I've been meaning to do something like this. My first ever pc came with Samsung crt monitor, and somehow, after all these years I still have it But I'm afraid it's going to ruin my eyes if I use it... Unlike modern displays, old crt monitors literally shoot beam of electrons at your face!
I really want to do a sleeper build and for some reason I was thinking that the front IO connectors wouldnt be able to connect to a mordern MOBO. Also did you add any fans afterwards? these older cases dont have very good airflow so im curious.
