You eventually get used to walking with poles you walk 10 steps and your brain is like "Wait this isn't right" even in Maine I'd leave my poles by accident. If I had to count the miles I back tracked for the poles I left behind on the AT alone. It's at least 70 miles

Not much Elevation gain down there in Florida....Some very steep climbs on the AT that don't let up for miles.I have hiked all over the white mountains of NH and Maine...Good luck on your preperations..
