- Thousands looking to offer a helping hand to those impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires showed up at a huge donation center at the Santa Anita Park racetrack in Arcadia, a city close to the Eaton Fire, on Sunday.
Volunteers waited in long lines for an chance to help with sorting through mountains of donations that included clothing, water, diapers and tinned and dry food.
"I just needed to come out and do something to help people," said Jennifer Denhartog, a 48-year-old school teacher from Long Beach, who was handing out diapers.
"I feel so bad for the people so I just wanted to come help somebody. It's all I can do. I can't give a bunch of money, but I can come and give my time," she added.
The Santa Anita effort began when a street vendor announced on TikTok that he wanted to serve hot dogs to firefighters. People who had been inundated with images of destruction jumped at a chance to do something positive and flooded the donation center.
"I have donated water. I donated food, cereals and pasta. And also I donated face masks as well and also some cleaning wipes," said Michael Xiong, a 57-year-old local resident who said he felt compelled to do something because so many people have been suffering.
Six-year-old Oliver Lee came to volunteer with his dad and was helping by handing out bottles of water.
"The worst part about the fire was, like, my dad's school is getting burned down. Kids cannot go to school. Kids and grownups are homeless. They don't have anywhere to live," he said.
The overflowing donation center was just one of many relief efforts across the region.
Hollywood celebrities have also pledged donations and local restaurants were offering free food to first responders and displaced people.
On Sunday, Firefighters raced to contain the frontiers of two Los Angeles wildfires that burned for the sixth straight day, taking advantage of a brief respite in hazardous conditions before high winds were expected to fan the flames anew.
At least 14 people have died in what California Governor Gavin Newsom said could be the most devastating natural disaster in U.S. history, one that has destroyed thousands of homes and forced 100,000 people to evacuate. Another 16 people were believed missing.

I hope that the families who lived in the affluent neighborhoods and suffered the impact of the fires can appreciate the overwhelming support from those who weren't wealthy. I hope that they can understand now and empathize with the middle-class and the poor, rather than look down on them as they did before.

I heard This mexican man Jaime Medina stated it, I think he sells tacos, or something like that so he tock the initiative to bring food to the police and firefighters he bring them hot dogs, and later shared on his tiktok and now this man has mobilized a super amount of help!!!!! I t started with a big Latino community mobilizing and later more and more people added. God bless everyone helping, and God bless this man for this amazing and outstanding contribution.

This should be not unlike in other corrupt countries the donations don’t go to people and distributed efficiently. This is the solidarity spirit that everyone should do.

A hand in hand help from other after the wildfire aftermath shows that God is with them. The wildfire diasater is an awakening for unbelievers that we have a true living God and Savior.. God's mercy and love to all the victims of LA CA wildfire.
