Why isn't he considered a musical legend already? He combined scatting, which was only used on jazz music at the time and europop, which was extremely popular. He became famous in his 50s, which is extremely unusual for the music industry even for today and he didn't care that he was popstar, he just wanted to help people
@@krisstopher8259 he is bigger than a statue. He is internet royalty. Scatman single is arguably the best song ever created. All of his music is highly underrated. His story is one of the most remarkable too. The first time i heard Scatman single in late 90's in the movie Baseketball when i was like 6 years old, It was the first song ever that made me feel like i could do anything i wanted to. And thats exactly the message he was trying to portray. It was the best song i ever heard then, and to this day, still is
*today marks his 21 years of his death, I’m literally in tears because of this. everyone that knows me definitely knows I’ve been a big fan of him for many years, I honestly consider myself to be his biggest fan...* *you’re right about his motives though, it’s no joke that he inspires me every so often everyday...he is incredibly underrated..* *and I hope you rest well in scatland buddy..* 💜
As a 90's kid i remember getting obsessed with this song, years later I translated the lyrics and some years ago I read the whole Scatman history. Now I'm making a presentation for some friends to help them to know better this amazing artist. I'm (not) criying.
The most beautiful story I've ever heard. From a scared kid to using his ailment to making a name and an impact on more lives than he could have imagined. ❤❤
I get such a bitter-sweet feeling when you said the Scatman's ashes were scattered. One final scat for our Scatman. Thanks for making this video, it was good learning about John :)
You know folks. John Scatman Larkin is a gift to all of us in this World!!!! I am the same age now that he was when his song, “Scatman,” came out! Wow! I feel amazed to have enjoyed it so much in my 20’s or 23 in late 1994! What a Gem this fella is! Rest In Peace Dear Man! God Bless Your Soul! Thank YOU so much for your BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE! ❤
That's a smashing video you've made, really well done and tells Johns story perfectly. My own tribute video covers more his releases and impact over the years he was active but touches on his story...nowhere near as in depth as you have. There's a lot of photos you've used that I've not seen before which is pretty neat. Congrats, I really enjoyed that.
God, Scatman John was and still is the most wholesome and pure person at heart. His music contain alot of messages about hope, love, cooperation, confidence and struggle which will resonate with me forever. He pratically made me more human by allowing myself to see the purness of humanity, the struggles we all have and the aim for a better, less divided world. Just wished that he stayed with us longer but it seemed that he already had what he wanted. Rest in Power John Paul Larkin.
I’ve been a long-time fan of Scatman John and being able to hear his story makes me really happy. His music has been a major help when I find myself in a bad mood. To know he was equally as wholesome and kind in his life as he was in his music makes me really happy and I thank you for sharing that story with the world.
To everyone who says he's dead, I just want to point out something he said in his hit song. "Things you called dead haven't yet had the chance to be born"
A wonderful story. He was an inspirational legend and the song is a unique and timeless masterpiece. His songs were a part of my childhood. A great guy!
As someone who suffers from shuddering to this day as an adult, it's nice to hear the history of this man who overcame his issues and used them to impact the world. He may have only had a short music life and a few hit songs, his music is still heard daily today in 2022 almost 30 years later.
this video deserves and needs more views i never knew his true story but this is one of the most person wholesome ive ever seen and didnt stop supporting others until the end
they need to make a movie out of this!!!! this is such a beautiful success story! people should know about this! it empowers those with stutters! RIP John Paul Larkin!
Wow He truly inspirational. This man deserves way more recognition God bless him and his fighting spirit. Can't wait to meet him one day way later tho I haven't completely reached my mission here yet still fighting the good fight. If Scatman John can do it so can you and I.
my most memorable moment with the Scatman song was something right out of a sitcom. (2:30am) My buddy and I are sneaking back into his house from a party. His back pack brushes across the living room stereo. The pop of it turning on made us look at each other not even a moment later FULL BLAST, the intro to the scat man song plays in his living room causing us to slap frantically at the system to turn it off..... we were caught we still talk about that night till this day. also *starts to hear Toby Fox music at 8 mins in the back ground frantically looks at other tabs cuz scat man is more important to me than undertale*
Rest in peace, Scatman John 😢 I love your music, because if iam hearing it? my soul is full of joy 😊 Thank you John, your music makes me happy 🙂 Greetings from germany 🇩🇪
I had a stutter as a kid, nothing uncontrollable, but it got worse the more nervous i got. Speech therapy dealt with it along with my other speech impediments but they all come out when i am extremely nervous. Seeing someone make a success oit of the difficulties i, and many like me, were forced to take therapy to get rid of, is inspirational to say the least. I didnt care that i had the impediments, but others did, so apparently i had no choice.
Fun fact. Scatman's song alos appeared in a couple movies and TV shows at the time as well. His song was featured in the 1997 comedy movie Nothing To Loose, during the spider scene. His music video was alos featured on an episode of Beavis And Butthead, in the episode No Service. Beavis and Butthead talked about his music video. Pretty cool.
But what many people didn't know is that Scatman John's song "Scatmambo" is a title track of a german movie "Das Merkwürdige Verhalten Geschlechtsreifer Großstädter zur Paarungszeit" ("Love Scenes from Planet Earth") with Christoph Waltz.
He was a really attractive man. He is truly great. I think he is a great loss but I think he did what he wanted in that he helped fellow stutterers! 57 is way, way too young to go though! I use Scatman in my songs to exercise to because its so upbeat and helps me keep going! If the Scatman has that much energy then I have no excuse!
The rembrants were second in the awards with the famous "Ill be there for you" (F.R.I.E.N.D.S ost) while Scatman John won with "Scatman" and "Scatman's World". Finally the rembrants are not first somewhere. cannot believe he died. when i first heard him i thought he was alive. Until i googled him up. also how do people get old footage? like seriously how. Noone will sit down and record it for the future. They didnt know youtube would exist. Any ideas? anyway. Rest well Scatman. :')
I remember us on holiday in Europe and going through Germany 95 I picked up maybe the tape maybe the CD and my sister picked up the Greenday kerplunk album I think my brother might of got the new No Doubt album Tragic Kingdom. It was one of our last holidays together for a few years.
Could you talk about Bambee next? she's also another internet icon used in amv's and her songs were in games like pump it up and dance dance revolution,You may remember her song bumblebee, after her 2nd album fairytales, she was never really heard from again
I remember in English class we had to choose a song to translate and explain the lyrics. So i thought I’m smart and choose scatman john because i thought it’s just noise. Fang was i wrong. Rest in peace john

His speech pattern was actually really charming. It’s sad that people make fun of stutters, as they make people really fun to be around
Just realize that if John didn't suffer from stuttering, we would never had the 'scatman' song.
