- On November 3, 2021, the La Crosse Police Department assisted in taking a man into custody. The man was fired from his job and sent threatening messages to staff members at the company. Police showed up at his residence as the man was about to leave. He saw police, refused any commands, and went back into his residence making it unknown if he was armed or not...

Years ago a friend of mine at work was murdered by another co-worker that was fired days prior. I'm so glad they took this case seriously, you never know what people are capable of.

I have worked for a few managers who were total dicks yelled in your face, and liked to hamulate someone who got fired which is bad idea never know what someone might do.
@Oracladeus It was a small business and we were all really close (still friends with my old boss 15 years later). He was let go because of psychological issues that came into the workplace (tormenting animals, coming to work on drugs, etc).

Travis ignores police instructions, runs back to his house (where weapons may be) and then acts surprised that he was shot with a less-than-lethal weapon. What a genius. So innocent. What a pillar of the community.
Honestly they could have used more force, people that hate how police do things should go see the things they put up with for about a month. Then they will understand why things are done they way they are. It isn't perfect but things are done the way they are because of something that happened in the past that caused them to change SOP.

I got fired from a job back in 2010 because I wasn't the right fit for the company. The feeling was mutual; going into work was a miserable feeling. It happens. Instead of threatening to murder my co-workers and their families, I pondered what went wrong and what I could do in the future so that it didn't happen again. Not only did it save me from being charged with a felony and going to prison, I found a job that made me happy!
Well done finding peace at what every human being wants in so that we all can die in peace knowing we served a purpose being free not imprisoned

Yet more food for thought: Imagine Nikolas Cruz only had a knife. How much violence could he have inflicted on others before he would have been taken down? Not much.
I know the Americans love their guns. But, they cause a lot of harm in the wrong hands. Which is the point. Guns don't belong in wrong hands, yet the U.S. make it as easy as possible to get them. Guns in responsible hands may not cause much of a problem. Guns in the wrong hands IS the problem.
As long as that happens, you better take death threats VERY serious.

Years ago my dad fired a guy who’d been caught stealing more than once. Despite the multiple chances and the quiet, respectful way he was let go, the guy started following my dad, calling our house, etc. It was freaking terrifying. Guy just got a warning and we were looking over our shoulders for a very long time.

Being respectful to authority is the fastest way to be the yay sayer, bootlicker and pushover in a company. Being respectful is the way to go. Also, you don't know what job he had, there are job's out there that specifically come with the mandate to make decisions independent from higher ups.

A “yes man” is a particular type of employee, only wanted by a select few.
Basically, if you are in a situation like Travis here, there are 2 choices - go to jail peacefully, or rack up a bunch of extra charges, injuries, and property damage that you'll be on the hook for. In this instance he chose wisely despite his other insanely stupid choices that led to the situation.
It's not even guaranteed he would've gone to jail, he might have just gotten a Summons or citation. Not likely given the alleged death threats, but possible. But guys like that don't do things the easy way.
There is a third and maybe a fourth option.

I would like to think that this department handles all cases, regardless of race, with this skillfully combined level of patience and urgency. Those who wished to participate in the movement went to the city next door, where the police literally allow tourists to get away with murder, and instead of preventing crime or uplifting the community like my city's LE, they prefer to spend their time harassing minorities, low income families, and the homeless.
It is VITAL to recognize that a problem that does not affect your community still exists. Just because I'm not in Ukraine doesn't mean there isn't a war. Just because one community is being torn apart by a corrupt local government does not mean that all police everywhere in the world are shitheads.

It's interesting how Travis reinvented the events as they transpired. He's in so much denial of responsibility that he leaves out key details to make himself appear to be a victim. This encounter would have been very different if he had just stayed put and talked with the officers at initial contact.

That was strange because for the majority of the converation with the cop, he actually sounded quite normal - a little angry maybe, but possibly a guy who just made a bad decision while emotional over being fired. But his behavior at the end made it seemed like he really does have some issues.

My dad once had a cop pull him over and approach him with gun drawn and ordered him to keep his hands visible out the window. My dad honestly had no clue what it was about but complied anyway. The cop lowered the gun as soon as he had a clear look at him and realized my dad wasn’t the guy who robbed a place and shot the people inside they were looking for. He’d been in the right kind of car and had dark hair, but that was the only similarities. Amazing how just complying doesn’t result in being “shot by a beanbag for no reason.”
I was drunk a few years ago and was walking on a sidewalk with my handgun in my hand instead of on my waistband (I was cleay not thinking) , a cop passing by jumps out of his car with his gun and yells at me to put the gun down. I did exactly that and of didn't get shot. Just listen, that's all

One of the laws of the land is that you can't threaten the safety of others. If you do the cops actually have to take it seriously. In that case you don't get the option weather or not to cooperate with their investigation. Had he not made the threats he would have had the option. But in this case he did not.
