my guess is he was trying to leave his old life behind because of the pressure and was attempting to start a new life. My guess is that was plan was to ride EVERYTHING and he's generally pretty optimistic. Sets up the character well but Im not sure if it makes complete sense lol
He's also 12, and 12 year olds dont deal with problems, they run away from them or deflect by focusing on something else. Aang is extremely fun loving so it makes sense that he tries to deflect by doing fun things. Also he's from a time period where the four nations were at peace with each other (before sozins little debut that is) so seeing people from different nations wasn't unusual. Aang had tons of friends from all over the world, when you think of it that way, seeing a water tribe girl and asking her to play with you just makes sense with aang. Seeing Zuko's ship be so imposing in front of Sokka and the Southern Water Tribe in episode two is such great contrast to how dinky Zuko's ship looks next to the other Fire Nation ships at the dock he stops at in episode three for repairs. A clever way to show that for a Prince he certainly wasn't "spared no expense" for his Avatar mission before they straight up reveal that he's been banished.
For Sokka being pretty negative towards Katara's waterbending, I think there's a fair bit of subtle worldbuilding being done there. He's probably lived most of his life without any form of bending apart from his sister in his life. You're right hat his opinion is an outlier, because he's from a backwater where bending is genuinely the exception rather than the norm.
To be fair to Sokka when he said that if he could water bend, he'd keep it to himself. The Fire-Nation has been launching continuous raids against the Southern Water Tribe, capturing the water benders, including Sokka and Katara's Mother, who while not a bender, gave herself up, so that her daughter the water bender could survive.
God, the Josh cameos are a treat. Thanks for doing this, Danny. Revisiting ATLA is always so fun. Especially when you sit back and think about how fucked up everything is. 🤣
Something else that I absolutely love in comparing the element bending with air bending is something that no one thought about in the 100 years of Aang being gone is that no one really knows how to fight against airbenders because they’ve been extinct for so long. So it’s believable that Zuko may not know how to fight against Aang at first.
Probably helps that airbending is a naturally tricky fighting style. Firebenders are used to people trying to fight back, and as conquerors they're trained to be ruthless and let their anger guide them. Zuko casually kicks Sokka's ass so you expect him to just be better, and he kinda is a little bit, but also he's trained to fight against others trying their best to kill him. Air nomads just don't operate that way and most firebenders can't adapt. Kinda helps explain why the fire nation struck the air nomads first and foremost with the comet. Even if that was mainly an Avatar Prevention Force, they probably also knew if the air nomads ever decided to fight back they'd be a huge pain in the ass. Imagine trying to fight a whole nation that can just casually hide in clouds and fly right over your blockades and checkpoints.
Personally I feel Season Two is the strongest. It’s all build up and tension with honestly some of the strongest episodes in the entire series. Plus with the addition of Toph the group feels complete. Like you didn’t know you needed her until they gave her to you.
I'm gonna need more of these. A 30 video series of all 3 books would be fun. Could also do a long recap of each season or cover your favorite episodes of each season
So I just finished actually watching the thing and once again I am taken aback by your unique perspective. Like of course most of us pretty much all come here for the comedy, you’re a funny guy, but the perspective you bring to the table and ideas that you bring to the conversation always feel so fresh and interesting. Your ability to notice another craftsman‘s attention to detail and clearly recognize why those particular details are probably there is always really enjoyable to listen to. I feel it was more they were peaceful by choice not by nature cause they knew the danger they posed so they formed their culture of peace and such to prevent any dangerous rogue destructive air benders
Can we talk about the fact that Sokka does eventually fight Firebenders with fun. He tricked an entire airship crew going into the cargo bay and dropped them all into the middle of the ocean.
I'm not gonna lie, all the episodes in the Northern Water Tribe are some of my favorite episodes in the series. It was a tad rushed, and it lacked a bit of the scale of later seasons, but I have such a nostalgic feel for those episodes. Also bruh the ATLA soundtrack goes dummy hard it's so good.
Yeah, I’ve watched this show in it’s entirety several times, for years since it came out. The story has so much depth, they really killed it, and there is so much to learn at different ages. Good stuff.

10:40 I completely agree!! I absolutely LOVED Sokka’s character development, especially regarding his views towards women. It felt very genuine and well-thought out, and I honestly think it might be one of the best character arcs in Nickelodeon history
After Sokka said “This is Katara, my flying sister” my phone paused and I was waiting for the reaction like. “Damn, he’s playing this silence bit up a lot.” Then I saw the video was paused. I was staring at it for a good 15-30 seconds.

Season 2 is my fav and what got me into the series. I saw the Library episode on TV at a cousin's house and it stayed with me for years until I found the series on my own again and watched it.
I love this so so much! I love Avatar and all the things you noticed and talked about are some of my favorite things that a lot of people don’t notice. Like Katara doing the waterbending move backwards is so good and no one really notices it except you! Also, how they use their bending uniquely instead of just punching elements at each other is so good, I like how you noticed and commented about that. Anyway, I love this series and how there are a lot of subtleties and I feel like you’re really good at picking those up, so I would love it if you continued with your reactions!
I do love that in both TLA and in LOK, you can clearly see how most people with fighting experience have no clue how to fight an airbender, because in the entirety of TLA, there isn't a single person alive with actual experience in that regard aside from the people we actively see getting that experience, and even in the first two seasons of LOK there's only 5 airbenders in total (and a baby that hasn't shown any bending yet but is asumed to be an airbender)
Just recently I've been watching Avatar for the first time. I missed out on watching it because it came out when I was born and I was only two and three when the other seasons came out. But I'm really enjoying this series more than anything. And I really enjoyed your reaction to it Danny!!
I loved that you are revisiting this series. Watching as an adult is really fun because you can understand more than what you didn't when you were a kid.

So, like, avatar superfan. I absolutely loved this video. I just had a few nerd out a little. 2:39 you mention sokka being weird for not having bending. It's actually pretty well established in korra and especially the comics that non-benders make up the majority of the populous and benders usually take up seats of power because non-benders can't really stop them. After the war, the tensions between benders and non-benders explode basically instantly.
I definitely appreciate you recognizing Katara's improvisation with her waterbending on Zuko's ship. It's a wonderful scene to show Katara's ability to adapt, which is basically the core philosophy of waterbendng. Honestly, the first two episodes as a whole are just masterful at clearly characterizing the main characters. You understand that Katara is hopeful, how she's taken on a motherly role and shelved her childhood, and how determined she is to learn the art of waterbending. You see how Sokka's a bit bullheaded at times, but also his healthy caution, his courage, his goofy attitude. You see how Zuko's incredibly driven by his goal many times over, but also his genuine sense of honor when he agrees to leave the south pole alone when Aang bargains with him. And Aang is shown to be very fun-loving and goofy, but also how he does ultimately strive to do what's best for others, volunteering to leave when he accidentally sets off the flare, coming back when he sees Zuko's ship at the village, and voluntarily giving himself up in exchange to ensure the village doesn't come to harm. Iroh has probably the weakest introduction relative to his later characterization, but I'll believe it's just because they were still developing his character at that point, and certainly the Iroh we ultimately got is one of the best characters to come from media in the past few decades
02:40 It is so wild, because Sokka only know one bender. And it's his sister. He has never seen another bender in his life! Like damn, it's so heavy when you realize that at this point, Sokka only knows Firenation Bad, Firenation bends fire (weird magic), so if Sokka had bending instead of Katara, he's might've very well gone the internal self haterd for having bending route.
ATLA is an absolute masterpiece in every was a show possibly can be. I'm so here for this whole series, don't stop with season one, I wanna see Danny's full reaction to the whole show. Oh, also, you're wrong, the tales of ba sing se is the best episode in the whole show no contest.
I also watched this when I was 6 when I was still fighting my battles with English, so I remember the scenes but the lines were blurry. 12 years later I randomly decided to rewatch the whole show because I can understand English now. Everything made so much more sense when I rewatched the whole show again.
It's a new day and I remembered something, there is actually more Assassination Classroom stuff. It's a short mini-movie kind of thing called Assassination Classroom 365 Days. It just shows what the 3-E kids do after graduation. It's kinda short and I don't know where to watch it. I bought Volume 21 of the manga which has the 365 Days content in it, plus a bonus story where Koro-Sensei cures a single mother of a medical emergency that would have caused her to go blind. I don't know if you'd rather watch the mini movie or read the manga, but I recommend the manga. Volume 21 is the final volume in the series.
This show being a Saturday Morning Staple for me as a child, is as mindboggling as my Friday Nights being Ben 10, Generator Rex, and Star Wars the Clone Wars. While I am, and always will be grateful for ATLA and CW and everything they taught me and what they do to prove that just because a show is for children doesn't mean it can't cover important/mature subject matter.
Honestly - who doesn’t want to see more. Analyzing this series is just a hype in itself, because there is SO MUCH to unpack. You can go episode-by-episode & also bring information in from later episodes to explain the intricate detail of the show further.
[Spoilers ig] : the fact that before they found him he had run away, was caught in a storm that nearly killed him and forced his Avatar state to preserve him in a sphere of ice 🧊, and he wakes up to trigger words like “extinct”, “war”, and “Avatar’s gone”. And Aang just gaslighting them like he doesn’t know about the Avatar and ignoring the trigger words bcuz he never wanted to be the Avatar in the first place 😮
I’m glad I came over from Tik Tok, I’m gonna love this series. Your humor is super funny and your analysis is top notch. Keep going man, you’re doing an amazing job 🔥🤟🏽🔥
I just realized this....Sokka's tale.about keeping water bending to herself may be cause fire nation has made sure to wipe out the water benders of their tribe. It's why their mother was killed. (To hide and protect Katara) So for her to even practice it is dangerous cause fire nation could show up at any moment. And that is actually really sweet. He seems so grumpy when in reality it's just cause he's a child with so much weighing on him as son of the chief.
I hope you continue to watch like all the seasons; it would be so cool cause I love re-watching the show. I rewatch them every year because we got them on DVDs when I was a kid.
I’m so glad that you’re covering avatar. Avatar and Rwby are two of my favorite series. I’d love to see you react to Rwby someday but till then I still enjoy this great content you continue to produce
when I first watched this series I didn't realize people can't see the air that Aang is bending until it's in the form of like a tornado. It's why dodging an airbender is so hard
I think this is a really cool format. I like how you make funny commentary while also providing analysis about things that might go unnoticed or subconciously.

I'd love to see more of these videos in the future. I remember back when it came out, my friends would come over to my house after Sunday service to watch episodes together. It brought me closer to them not knowing we share that interest. Thanks for the nostalgia.
A little detail I like is that Aang says he’ll come with Zuko if he leaves the tribe alone and Zuko… leaves the tribe alone. Zhao would’ve burned that place to the ground but Zuko didn’t want to cause any more chaos than he felt he had to, he just wanted his honor back.

As someone who has never sat down and binged the entire series, I really appreciate this
Season 2 is my personal favorite! So much growth for all of them that season plus we get toph!! My queen!! 🥰
Any reason to rewatch atla is a good reason. And it's always fun with you.
I love this video. Avatar has been much childhood for years. Rewatching everytime still makes me feel like a kid again.
I will ABSOLUTELY watch the entire series in this fashion.
Avatar!!! My favorite show ever!!!
"You should try it sometime!"
Finale:
"This is your captain speaking"
ATLA is an absolute masterpiece in every was a show possibly can be. I'm so here for this whole series, don't stop with season one, I wanna see Danny's full reaction to the whole show.
Oh, also, you're wrong, the tales of ba sing se is the best episode in the whole show no contest.
He has already seen it-
When Danny gets to Legend of Korra: "Bolin? More like Swolin! Also this was great! more please!
Kudos for pointing out Katara's backward freezing! I love that move, and I've seen about a million reactors and no one commented on it :'(
Please please please continue! ATLA is one of my all time favorite shows!
“Weather boy” is such a specific jokes from an old meme and I love it
I also watched this when I was 6 when I was still fighting my battles with English, so I remember the scenes but the lines were blurry. 12 years later I randomly decided to rewatch the whole show because I can understand English now. Everything made so much more sense when I rewatched the whole show again.
I like the idea of you covering a series you and countless others already enjoy. It's almost akin to re-watching an old favorite with a new friend
ATLA is so good and I would love to see more of these videos. Season 2 is probably my favorite
Avatar is the best cartoon-I'll even dare say show-ever made. I can't wait to see the live action and the Zuko movie and everything else.
Make this video popular so he'll do more. I NEED more lines like "Sokka to hard as a Rockka" in my life!!!!
I hope you continue to watch like all the seasons; it would be so cool cause I love re-watching the show. I rewatch them every year because we got them on DVDs when I was a kid.
ATLA will always have a special place in my heart
I’m so glad that you’re covering avatar. Avatar and Rwby are two of my favorite series. I’d love to see you react to Rwby someday but till then I still enjoy this great content you continue to produce
when I first watched this series I didn't realize people can't see the air that Aang is bending until it's in the form of like a tornado. It's why dodging an airbender is so hard
KEEP THE EPISODES COMING! PLEASE!!! I love the thought of revisiting this series with your commentary!
I think this is a really cool format. I like how you make funny commentary while also providing analysis about things that might go unnoticed or subconciously.
You are the single funniest anime reviewer out there. I need more of this, I need more of your One Piece Read through, and I need more of your black clover series too.
You should do more reaction video of these series and maybe even the comics too , you're so funny and made my day lol
Yeah season 2 is my favorite and I would enjoy to see your commentary on the series
I’d actually *love* to see more of these, it’s amazing what you realize after a second watch
Please react to more episodes of Avatar! I forgot where all the characters started and it's always refreshing re-experiencing a show years later, also your reactions are fun!
were gunna need a whole playlist to binge your comedy for season of ATLA
So I have watched around 6 other channels reactions to AtLA, and I watched each reactors entire AtLA series multiple times (I think I have a problem lol), yet you still managed to give a lot of new insight to the show that I have not seen others say. I love the AtLA videos you have done so far and would really love for you to continue this as a series!
Please do continue these series, I absolutely love avatar
A new one just came up!
YES I was waiting for you to react to ATLA its one of my favourite childhood shows and your commentary is legendary
I hope you make a series
This is really fun and being able to appreciate certain things in retrospective makes it really engaging to watch
I'd love to see more of these videos in the future. I remember back when it came out, my friends would come over to my house after Sunday service to watch episodes together. It brought me closer to them not knowing we share that interest. Thanks for the nostalgia.
Avatar is just another level of cartoon
A little detail I like is that Aang says he’ll come with Zuko if he leaves the tribe alone and Zuko… leaves the tribe alone. Zhao would’ve burned that place to the ground but Zuko didn’t want to cause any more chaos than he felt he had to, he just wanted his honor back.
PLEASE WATCH MORE EPISODES! This is so good. Please, make this into a series
13:32 First time noticing he makes a face like Roku here
Please do more of these. I love rewatching my favorite shows through your videos.
