    Best “in the pocket” drummer currently alive, imo.

      That's a childish opinion.

      @@dahmerbundy8704Well, to his credit, this is Nate Smith we're talking about. Lol. OP ain't off base at all.
      It's biased, but it's not a hot take.

    Such an under-appreciated drummer. The nuances in his playing are so incredible.

    What a monster. Love him so much, gracefully puts the most unbelievable technical elements in pure service of groove and musicality.

      I gotchu.
      Step one: Get MAD tight with your timing for common times.
      Step two: Get MAD tight with your timing for UNcommon times (anything in 7, 5, 13, etc.)
      Step three: Learn when to throw ALL the ghost notes, some of the ghost notes, and only a few ghost notes. This man can paint pictures with his ghosting ability.
      Step four: You know how Kobe Bryant used to cross people up so slick that they ain't know what hit em? Nate Smith does the same thing on drums with the timing and rhythm. You think you got a hold of his tempo, but that's just him luring you into a false sense of security and then WHOOSH!!!!!!..........he crosses you up and dunks on you rhythmically.
      Learn how to do that.
      Step five: Become a master at steps one through four.
      And BOOM! Now you're Nate Smith. 🥁🥁🥁

    Try Dave Holland quartet - song Full Circle from the album Critical Mass. Nate pushed this along turning a jazz quintet into a high speed bulldozer. Friggin beautiful.

    Good drummer, but how can he wear a fukin mask while playing?

    • @moritzulrich2168
      @moritzulrich2168 Год назад +1

      Mostly he does not, so perhaps he wouldn't have been allowed to play otherwise? Or wood dust inexplicably was leaking from his mouth and nose on that day and he was trying to keep other people's airways uncontaminated?
