I certainly agree with you he is a great one if not one of the greats from our generation. My vote however would go to Antonio Sanchez. But close...and I like they have totally different styles. Listen to both play with Metheney.
one of them for sure theres marcus gilmore bill stewart brain blade antonio sanchez ari hoenig mark guliana theres so much more we are lucky to have so many great players to look up to and study
@@carrotsoup7264 I have to agree with you there man, Matt Garstka would be up there for me though.. no competition though, Nate is absolutely spectacular
Nice use of dynamics. With Nate it's always a journey and his drums speak in many languages. One of the unique drummers of our generation. Love his style....a monster. Thanks for posting...great video!
dude yes! still waiting. would love to see what Ghost Note does with a composition of his or to see what Nate does with one of their jams. Its gotta happen!
@@EmperorsNewWardrobe starts of in 6/8. Then after he puts down the sticks, he start back up in 4/4, and goes into a quintuplet swing feel toward the end.
I’m happy to be living in the era of Nate Smith.
Amen
I'm happy to just live on the same planet as him
So crispy so clean, my vote for best drummer of our generation

My vote goes to Larnell Lewis but Nate is such a great inspiration that I can't desagree with you ah ah

Gotta throw Dave King in there too!
Tells a story with his rhythm rather than a barrage of blinding ‘look at me’ rudiment bombs.
It's great, and you just know he could for days if he wishes to!
Nicely put, that’s an incisive observation
Lost all my possessions in this deep pocket

I could listen to Nate Smith play drums all day long ❤
Incredible drummer, surely a prime contender for Zildjian Live Season 3!

he sure does love his constantinoples
this is soo good more ppl need to see this
Weponized silence. I thought my phone paused the video for a second and then he came back in so clean!! Mind blown.
THANK GOD IT'S BACK I've been terribly sad the past month by its sudden disappearance 😥
new favorite drummer of this decade
I keep coming back to Nate. Between him and Benny Greb, my attention is well captured.
Outstanding playing!!
Wow you're such a genius 😮👏👏👏👏
Not usually a fan of odd time signatures but Nate has converted me via his musicality within them
No odd times on this set - you were hear odd tuplets on that last one. The main groove outlines a quintuplet.
@@chrishughes8188 what time signature do you think this is in?

So inspiring! - brilliant…
This is a smart god damn dude.
this is a track! the pause silence is a great on bit
Never disappoints. 🔥💪🏼🔥💪🏼
Unique! Slick as few and still on ”the edge”.
First track blew me away. Anyone else craving a little Paul Revere in the 2nd track?
Heard him with Chris Potter’s Underground Band live in Gothenburg around 2009. Raw, Loud but very groovy.
My goodness this right here was so fresh
This guy is a machine
@@tinyboots22 we agree! To be honest I never thought we’d do a full session with only a drummer but if anyone could pull it off it’s Nate Smith!
Ahh, holding sweet tension all the way through! That is a master!
He makes me mad I didn’t learn how to play drums and at the same time makes me not want to ever bother trying 😂
Nate is the groovemaster. One of my favorites.
Maaan, this broo knows how to playy!
I bought a drum kit, I'm gonna use the whole drum kit
Such intense anticipation in Day and Dusk.
Nate is Cutting Edge, like Daddy Dave. It’s a lot about the approach.
Would be great to see Steve Gadd's reaction to this dude!
