How to Repaint the Makeup on a Vintage 70yr old Ideal Toni Hard Plastic Doll

- In this video we show how to repaint and restore the makeup, eyebrows, eyelashes and lips on a vintage Ideal Toni doll. This technique can be used on most hard plastic dolls from that era 1940's, 50's 60's etc. I use Golden Fluid acrylic paint and a clear sealer on just the what is repainted. Now these dolls are on their way to being completely restored! At our channel @DIYDollArtist we repair and restore broken, sometimes dirty, neglected dolls and toys. The restoration of these vintage dolls can come in many different ways, some we find at shops, some are found and given to us to restore, and some just need a little love. I’m so glad you have made this video. My blonde p90 is missing her eye brows, part of her grey eye shadow and cheek blush. Thankfully her lips and lower lashes are intact. I definitely want to fix her eyebrows and cheek color. I may leave the eyeshadow the way it is. I already have the brushes. Now I need the courage to try. ❤
I am so happy that it was helpful. It s always scary when trying something new especially when you do not want to harm a special doll. Try practicing the painting technique on a paper like in the video until you feel more comfortable. Don’t worry if it takes awhile, new skills often do (and I am speaking from experience 😊). Remember, when you paint the eyebrows just have a damp Mr.Clean Magic Eraser handy. A little light wipe and you can try again. You can do it! 🥰

I am so happy you enjoyed it. I haven’t figured out how to do the cheeks with paint on a hard plastic doll, but I am experimenting and hopefully will figure it out soon. I freshen up the blush they already have with a color stick makeup. It is not as permanent as I would like so when I have perfected painting the cheek which is permanent I may do a shorter video on that. Thank you for watching!🥰

Thank you so much! We couldn’t imagine 1000 subscribers so a 1000 more seems unattainable.😊 Thank for the congrats that means so much. My daughter is a fine artist and she mixed the same acrylic paint for the flesh color and the face with a brush. We do not paint the entire face unless it is the last resort, but this was the only option for this doll. My daughter is working on way to paint the blush but she is still experimenting. She uses a color stick makeup to freshen up the blush but it is not as permanent on a hard plastic doll as we would like. That is why we did not show it. Yes I have restored a few composition dolls and I love it.Three months ago I did a video on a 90 yr old Composition Shirley Temple doll that was badly damaged. The lady that I got her from just wanted someone to restore and care for her. I repaired the massive damaged to her head, restored her mohair wig, and her original vintage clothing. She looks almost brand new and is one of my favorite girls. We really appreciate all your comments and encouragement, thank you!🥰
How are you doing the cheek blush?
I am experimenting with how to paint the blush, but haven’t figured it out yet. So, I use a color stick makeup to freshen up the blush. But It isn’t as permanent on the hard plastic dolls as I would like, which why I did not include it in the video.🥰
