I’m really glad to be a Grand Reserve member and to support your channel - and this video perfectly summarizes why. A lineup of wines that are really worth trying; a story and a passionate description for each bottle that (if I were a winemaker) would make me proud of my wine, and above else so much work. So much work. Yes, you share the best and memorable moments, but it’s easy to imagine the long hours in airports too, those late night hotel check ins, the video editings, the preparations for a new content, being caught in the petty wars of the wine industry, the wine press, wine competitions or RUclips creators- and with all this, live the life of a nice human being and run a business. It’s beautiful but it must be tough and you make it look easy, because that’s exactly what talented people do. So I’m glad to support the channel not just for the videos and the monthly chats but to appreciate all the work and care that goes into it.
First of all I really enjoy having you in the grand reserve group and thank you so much as you bring a lot to the call. I was thinking after our call this month that you’re somebody I’d like to drink with in person. I’m also amazed at how correct you got things in this comment, which may be my favorite one of the year.
@@drmatthewhorkey That would be my pleasure! If we ever happen to be in the same city / wine region at the same time I'll do my absolute best to make it happen. And of course if you have a chance to visit Malta, I'd be happy to arrange the wine visits for you.
Very well said : "The most memorable wines don't have to be the greatest wines in the world, they just have to be delicious and they just have to capture that moment with people that you love, people that you like, people that you want to have conversations with " Wish you a fruitful 2025 !!
Thanks for sharing this video and your highlights from 2024 with us. I whole heartedly agree that the best experiences are with family and friends, great bottles, awesome home cooking and intriguing stories and cultivars. And while its nice to drink great Burgundy, Bordeaux, Super Tuscans et all sometimes the best experiences are found in the off the beaten track and out of the way places and wines. Where the wine makers or the owners of the wine shop or wine bar are passionate about sharing their labors of love with you. From the bottles I've had and the events I've been to here in Budapest, Hungarian wine has grown leaps and bounds during the past 5 plus years. Its now not just the famous or well established wineries making great wine. As its become a much more level playing field and wineries at all sizes and levels are making tasty and enjoyable wines. Cheers and all the best for you in 2025 and in your new stomping grounds!
What a great video! You managed to cover so many different wines and regions, but more importantly, you really captured why wine can be so much more than a beverage. Friends, context, history, food, etc etc. Cheers to you and to 2024! Looking forward to more wine and videos in 2025!
What a year! Well done on your perseverence and some incredibly varied wine content. I'd love to see more Vlogs when you have time. I watch all the videos anyway as they inform my studies. Keep it up! Cheers!
Great video! Love how open you were about your experiences, and even struggles. Really glad the second half of your year was so successful. Also loved the story about reconnecting with your roommate from MSU. So many special connections and memories were made for me there. Been a busy year for me, so I haven’t engaged with your videos as much as in the past, but I’m still around enjoying your content. Great to see the growth of your channel over the years! Cheers!
Most memorable wines for 2024 for me were: 2003 Castello di Monsanto Il Poggio Chianti Classico Grand Selezione (for my son’s 21st birthday), 2019 Leeuwin Estate Art Series Cabernet, 2021 Emilio Moro Vendimia Seleccionada Ribera del Duero, and everything at Terre Et Sang especially their The Patriarch Syrah 🤯! And can’t forget a 1984 Lynch-Bages for my wife’s 40th birthday (not a good vintage but the wine was sound and an amazing experience for everyone to taste a 40 year old wine!) Sharing wine with others really elevates the experience! Thank you for sharing your experiences with us. 👏
Dr. 2024 was a bad year for Valencia, the floods did a lot of damage. Perhaps it will be a good idea if you do an episode with Valencia wines to boost their consumption. They have pretty good ones, and cheap also. Cheers.
Matthew, I discovered your channel in 2024. So happy I subscribed! Your content and passion for wine is fantastic. Can’t wait for more content in 2025!! Cheers! I especially love your long form interviews like you did with the wine shop owners in Ohio and Michigan.
Love the variety, good to see the RUclips book get a call out as Rob is pretty brilliant. I need to get on that Press list so I can attend some of these tastings...so jealous!
watched through the first 1:39 and want to pause to say you're amazing and good health and keep rocking, now will watch the next 40ish minutes. be well matthew!
Keep making videos, man! Love your content and you deserve all of your success. I know you’ve made Pet Nat videos in the past, but I would love some new content on the subject
I recently had the Love Block Pinot Noir for Thanksgiving. I thought it was fantastic for the price. Thanks for letting me know my palete is not that terrible.
Perhaps something that you may not find interesting, but a small vertical of Arinto dos Açores from the cooperative vitivinicula da ilha do Pico was eye opening for me
All the wines from La Rioja Alta are great IMO (Alberdi, Ardanza, Arana, etc.). I have Ardanza 2010 in my cellar. It will stay there for a few more years.
I'm sort of new to wine so forgive me if this is a dumb question. But what kind of business is Matthew in that he gets invited to all of these tastings? Is he part of the press or a wine journalist or something, or is it because of this RUclips channel? Does it have anything to with him being a Doctor? Anyways, great video and insights to small producers that i will probably never have.
I would have to say 2022 Casa Marin Miramar Riesling from Chile is high on my list. Along with Tetramythos Amphora Nature Retsina, Keller Limestone Kabinett Riesling, Becker Kalkmergel Grauer Burgunder 2021 and Rijckaert Cotes du Jura Les Sarres Savagnin 2022. Lots of other good stuff too, including many good reds but not that many great surprises. Greetings from Sweden with wishes for a happy new year. Emil
Lukas Hammelman Schlossberg 2022, Trotanoy 1995, le Puy Blanc 2023, Domaine aux Moines 2016, Bertani Amarone 1988, and Lafon Goutte d’Or 2021. A good year for wine!
Have fun with the upcoming Icewine episode. icewines have come a long way since the 1990s due to wineries using different grape varietiess aside from the standard Vidal (My two favourite are Chardonnay and Cabernet Franc). If you get the chance, try to look for the Southbrook Vineyard's Vidal Icewine because you'll be in for a BIG surprise. Aside from the 2021, let's see what other vintages are your samples. I'd personally avoid Jackson Triggs and inniskillin as they're too "commercialized"
Inniskillin makes some of the best 'value' sweet wine, ridiculous value - their Late Autumn Riesling is super cheap with everything you want from a Riesling - petrol, vibrant acidity, fruit - and sweetness like caramel. $14 CAD, so like $11 USD in Ontario. No business getting that much varietal character at that price point.
This year I loved all kinds of savoury southern Rhone red wines and cool climate Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Riesling from Ontario, especially Prince Edward County.
I tried Domaine Weinbach gerwutztraminer les treilles du loup 2020, really nice wine, and its not even their top production! I'm really looking forward to trying something else from this producer

Great video. And I fully endorse Viognier with steak- Condrieu and filet mignon is a fantastic pairing!!

glad to see Tsolikouri on the line up😊
Hahahah 😂🤣
Great year end video! I would love to see this list in the show notes
I’ll get around to it but my schedule has been crazy over the holiday season
I recently had the Love Block Pinot Noir for Thanksgiving. I thought it was fantastic for the price. Thanks for letting me know my palete is not that terrible.
Lovely wine indeed no pun intended
Congrats on the list My kind of "best of"....you ticked all the right boxes! Felt like a soundtrack for your 2024....or a winetrack if you prefer😅
Winetrack! I love it
Perhaps something that you may not find interesting, but a small vertical of Arinto dos Açores from the cooperative vitivinicula da ilha do Pico was eye opening for me
Yes I love the wines and the coop. One of my acquaintances makes the wines there and they showed up in an old video
great vid.....curious, did you post a list of these wines with links? Happy New Year!
No I didn’t many of these would not be available on wine.com which I often link to
@@drmatthewhorkey makes sense, thanks......enjoyed the vid!
Wines of the 2024 for me were Vina Ardenza(by far one the best Rioja I’ve had) and Pintia (such an exceptional and complex wine)
All the wines from La Rioja Alta are great IMO (Alberdi, Ardanza, Arana, etc.). I have Ardanza 2010 in my cellar. It will stay there for a few more years.
Ardanza and all of La Rioja Alta is soooo good

Who knows why I get invited LOLOL… I started writing about wine 10 years ago and am often on wine journalist trips

Nice list!
The Chianti Classico Poggio ai Mandorli 2019, produced by Trambusti.Sangiovese 90%and 5% Syrah and Merlot, each.
Now I understand your passion for SG!
Team Sangio!
great video always. Dont know how you lost 35 pounds. im a wine drinker and the only time i lose weight is when i take a break from drinking lol.
I run 5 to 7 times a week, lift weights, intermittent fast daily, and I’m very conscious of what I eat.
Sorry to hear you were not well Matt.
All good now!

There will only be one icewine vs other great sweet wines
@@drmatthewhorkey David vs Goliaths.
