It’s 2008 I’m a sophomore in high school, I just got kicked out of the garage band I was in, me and my parents fight all the time, I’ve never had a girlfriend and I feel like life sucks even though I’m only 15. Thankfully those bumps in the road weren’t the end of my journey but they helped me become who I am today. But life was simpler then and I didn’t have as many responsibilities as I do now. just discovered this music in a existential crisis, the lyrics gave me a broader perspective to stop and see what my life became, but the melody gave me a little bit encouragement to continue living, the perfect balance on a song.
What a special band. This album was definitely one of the most unique I’ve ever heard and I’m so glad I found it. STRFKR keeps this perfect balance of clever stylistic choices such as the radio person speaking in their songs or synthesizers with effects no other band uses, and plain catchiness made from awesome rifts, chords put together perfectly, groovy bass lines and the great use of synthesizers. The album feels less of a complication of songs and more of one big experience, especially how each song transitions between each other. Props to STRFKR for sharing these unique and loveable ideas, this album will forever remain underrated

Listened to this song 24/7 this summer. but one night I remember I had some plans with some friends to wake up around 4:30 am to go and drive to the beach and see the sunrise. I remember staying up watching family guy lmfao and makin chicken nuggets and chillin haha. But I remember it was around 4:15 am one of my friends had woken up and texted the gc (group chat) “I’m up a lil early so I’m just gonna get ready” I responded back with an “Ight bet” after I texted that I was on my ass boutta fall asleep but I drank some water to keep me up. But the third one, boi he took long as hell but we knocked on his windows a couple times and boi it took a while for him to get out the door took like 20 min but we were runnin a lil late but I remember we where driving and I put this song on driving with the windows down and just enjoying the nice warm breeze the sun was barely coming out and it was honestly such a good time driving as I talked about our Funny past in middle school and elementary school😌 we soon we’re greeted with rich neighborhoods and big ol houses like big ass houses super nice to look at, anyways we parked up and saw that people were out and about at 5 am some real NPC shit but they were nice so I didn’t care. When we had left the car I put this song on once again on my speaker and when we walked to the stairs where the beach was and when I got to those stairs I saw the most beautiful sunrise I’ve ever seen my friends were a lil behind but they rushed over when they saw my reaction to the sunset. This song means the world to be and I’m not sure why. But when I first heard it in high school sophomore year 2009 I couldn’t stop playing it all through high school and while I would go on walks with my dog or skateboarding this song always set the right mood for me. It also kinda makes me think of my dad when they say “all my life where’d you go” because he was absent ever sense I was 10 years old.
Listening to old indie songs makes me want to cry for the nostalgia.
