Glad you like them! It was really important to me, as most of the time my problem with quilt designs was not being able to visualise how they looked on a quilt. I came up with this idea as a way to solve that problem. I'm glad you found it helpful!
Hello! I have had two busy days with sewing and grandkids and now I get to sit with my hand quilting and watch! You are such a wonderful treat to listen too and so knowledgeable. I hope you have a beautiful and creative week ahead! Thank you for posting this video!
great information. I have been straight line quilting for a long time mainly in the ditch. Just started to do different straight line stitching.I never thought to measure. Thank You
Really great ideas…I especially like how you are using the line in the center of the sashing and then the multiple lines in the block…straight lines with interest! I think I’ll try this on an upcoming charity quilt, even though it does mean marking, which is not my favorite.
Would you be able to comment on how quilting affects the softness of the quilt, please? For example if the quilt is a throw size and will be used to snuggle under for a nap or to read a book, should the quilting considerations be different than if it was a quilt that would be used on a bed or as wall hanging. Thank you. And thanks for this series. It will be very informative.
Yes of course, I'm actually doing a video on this topic to be released in the next few months! The more quilting on a quilt the stiffer it will be. If you put quilting lines very close together it makes the quilt even stiffer. For a bed quilt I think you want something that drapes well and is soft and snuggly. So I would plan a design that was fairly spaced out (as much as the batting will allow) that isn't too dense. Straight lines are great as tehy often disappear into the quilt and leve it nice and soft. For a wall hanging I would do a dense, close together design that make it nice and stiff and then it hangs straighter. So some of the more complex designs that are coming up in this series. I hope that helps!
Can you share what quilt design software you use to preview the quilting? I often use straight line quilting for small projects and like it for a quick finish that looks great on a lot of quilts.
Hello! I make the quilt mock-ups in PreQuit (prequilt.com) and I then do the quilting design visualations in Illustrator, but you could do them in any program that lets you draw lines. I am going to do a video about how to do these so I'll be sure to include this information
Are you a straight line quilting fan? Let me know if you have a quilt in mind for this design!
Thoroughly enjoy ‘getting away from ‘ in any ditches’!😊
Thanks so much for doing this series. “Quilt as you like” is soooo intimidating. This series will definitely help.
You are so welcome! Hope you enjoy it.
I love that you’re showing the designs on different quilts.Thank you!

What do you use to mark the lines?
I use the Clover White Fine Marker, it's a fab tool!
