I (28M) have always been close with my younger sister, Maddie (24F). Since our parents worked a lot, I was like a second parent to her growing up, and I continued to help her as she became a young single mom of two kids, now 5 and 3. I've always been there to babysit whenever she needed, sometimes for entire days, so she could work and get back on her feet.
However, recently, Maddie has started making hurtful comments about my career. I'm a freelance graphic designer, and although it's not stable, I've been making decent money. But at a family dinner, she made a comment about me not having a "real job" in front of our parents, which cut deeply. When I confronted her about it, she brushed it off as a joke, but the words stung too much for me to just ignore.
After that, I decided to stop babysitting for her until she could show some genuine respect and apologize. Maddie pushed back, saying she needed me, and accused me of being selfish and making her life harder. My parents even tried to mediate, saying Maddie was stressed, but I stood my ground.
One day, Maddie showed up at my door with her kids, expecting me to babysit despite my refusals. It was a tough moment, but I realized I couldn't keep enabling her behavior and letting her disrespect me. I turned her away, leaving our relationship strained. It hurts because I love my niece and nephew, but I also need to be treated with basic respect and acknowledgment for everything I’ve done.

The title is misleading. He didn't refuse to babysit them, he still ended up babysitting them like the doormat loser that he is.
I think I understand what is happening psychologically here. The sister is using him as a substitute baby daddy. So she expects him to watch with kids and she is also pushing him to earn more money so she get get support from him financially. She treats her BFs like trash too which is why they are not around. She feels she has the right to demand that he step up to his “fatherly” duties.
She will be shocked when he calls the police and reports them as being abandoned

It’s OK to help family, but every once in a while, you’ve got to remind them those are their children. They drop their pants to make them. They are responsible for them.

The brother is a simp! He should gave told her off, if family is supposed to be there for each other, she should show appreciate his effortts. What has she EVER DONE FOR HIM? I'm also disappointed that the "story" didn't have an ending. He shouldn't have answered the door. He should have made sure to not be at home. When ahe abondoned her kids at his doorstep, he should immediately call CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES. She needs to take responsbility. I would have never let it get this far. I would have set boundries right from the start!
OP should tell his ungrateful sister that he no longer has the time to babysit because he realised that she was right and he’s now spending all his time building up his client base and portfolio. Couldn’t he have reported her for child abandonment? And refusing to collect them is also abandonment. CPS! And for heavens sake, bill her for your time! She stopped you earning your wages, so must subsidise them. Lots of options open.

Don’t bother with this story. OP refuses to babysit, his sister drops her kids off anyway, and as a power move she refuses to pick them up, forcing OP to take her kids home. The story ends with the sister telling OP that he was babysitting the next day and OP saying no, but it’s pretty obvious that it will happen.

Reply that you are busying using your time to work on yourself to become a winner instead of remaining a loser and help her with babysitting. If she forces her kids on you, then tell her you are a loser because the ungrateful entitled sister made you one.
Get to the point. Going in and on about how you feel used especially letting yourself be used is tedious. Get to the point.
The worsening about this is there is no resolution. OP agreed with his sister. He didn’t tell her: “the next time you bring your kids over I am calling CPS. I am never babysitting them again. Your apology is not valid and I am not dumb enough to accept your gaslighting. This issue is your problem not mine.”
