A 26-year-old woman has been dating her boyfriend (28M) for nearly a year, and she used to think everything was great. He's usually sweet and thoughtful, but recently, his constant comparisons between her cooking and his mom's, especially her "legendary lasagna," have begun to hurt.
Wanting to impress him, she made lasagna from scratch, but he dismissed it as inferior to his mom's. Things got worse during a dinner at his parents' house when he made hurtful jokes about her lasagna in front of everyone. Humiliated, she left the table. When she tried to express her feelings, he dismissed them, calling her sensitive. They drove home in silence, and afterward, he gave her the cold shoulder, expecting her to apologize.
Fed up, she decided to take back her power by no longer cooking for him, which had been her way of showing love. She began cooking only for herself, enjoying her own well-crafted meals while he struggled with basic cooking. He grew visibly frustrated as days passed, but his pride kept him from admitting his mistake. She stood her ground, refusing to return to cooking for him without the respect she deserved, hoping he'd understand the value of her efforts.

So he apologized. So what she calls that respect? So when is he gonna start cooking with her or for her? Who cleans the apartment? It all seems like the male/female roles were cemented in, and because he hurt her feelings, then she decided not to feed him, but let him finally come around to so-called respecting her. They needed to talk about Halsey. They were going to even things out so they could both cook, they could both clean, do dishes, etc., because they were a team and that didn’t pop up and who’s gonna take care of the baby when it comes there? Is he going to change diapers and wash clothes and mix formula and so pn? This was another story about a big baby.
Why didn't the OP just break up with the jerk after he humiliated her at his family's house?
He should remember she is not married to him, is not his slave, and deserves respect whether about her cooking or anything else.
What a beautiful spineless doormat story. There's absolutely no shame, no self-respect, and no dignity or honor, in this story. They called insults, humiliation, and embarrassing statements as comments, yeah fcuk you. No two people cooking Lasagna has the same taste, texture, or presentation. Every family has their own style of cooking. Some cook the sauce for longer period of time on low heat, and some cook it shorter period of time on high temps.
She should have left him yesterday, and his parent's convincing that such things happen, is trying to convince the doormat OP, to simply suck it up and keep her mouth shut.
What op isn't seeing is that it's going to get worse. Like, "my mom was better with holidays than u are. My mom was a better wife than u are. My mom was a better mom than u are" and the list of insulting comparisons will continue throughout their relationship if it isn't stopped immediately. She should hit him with a "My ex bf was nicer to me than u are" smarter, funnier, has a better job, etc..and other things to get the point across

because her story is made to make her look good from a woman's point of view the reason u are questioning it is because her story is full of holes, meaning it didnt happen like this, or it is completely fake which is the most obvious.

I married into a family like that. Any new member got teased. My husband didn’t partake but warned me how they were. One time I found my husband and his dad talking and I walked up, my FIL asked me a very inappropriate question, IMO. I looked at him in shock, looked at my husband, his head is down. I didn’t say anything but turned around, got my things and walked home, less than a mile. I think I was most upset at my husband for 1-not standing up for me. 2-what the Hell were you and your dad talking about (me) that would even warrant such a question. That story is too long. But what I have done is warn all new family members and not let that family break them

He should've apologized and held himself accountable for what he did and his words. He also should've been an adult and simply cooked for himself. Meal prepping food only takes 1-3 hours per week, and anyway can learn to cook. I would only cook for myself and break up with him.

OP is not the AH. She’s a bloody legend, the queen of the long revenge. Her boyfriend is obviously a jerk but so is his mum. I could not sit at a table & watch my son belittle & humiliate someone much less the woman he’s supposed to love. It’s so easy to see where he gets this behaviour from.
But having said that, he is the biggest AH & now that I’m getting to the end of the story, I’m so annoyed she forgave him. I guess I’d hold a grudge lol
