Hi Bill, I used have a bit of 1/4 soft roll with some 1/4 flares on the end. I would put that in a bucket of water with an immersion heater in it and charge liquid out of the cylinder through the coil in the water to vaporize it. Works great. Besides, afterwards you can wash your hands in warm water which is rather soothing in snowy weather. Kind regards, Duncan, South Africa
I had a leak on the very bottom of the condenser same trane unit but ours are from 98. About 14 of them so far three comp changes and 4 indoor fan motor. Changes. And only one condenser leak. Trane made some decent equipment back in the day.
I haven't had many run ins with mall security. Except one got mad because I left a compressor on the ground holding the door to the roof stairs open because my helper got his ID back. Like all I had to do was move it into my truck and he threw a fit about it. Otherwise I have to deal with annoying property management "techs" lol. Great video
@@curioushvacguy6876 it really is that way. And those people have a limited thinking capacity. One reason is being scared because of your boss, another is enforcing rules that don't really apply.
Good video Bill. Like another commentor said, I would have liked to have seen the condenser coil change out but I know time and other constraints dont allow that. Long walks and security are always a fun and interesting thing to deal with especially when they have rules that just seem to make our jobs harder. Looking forward to the next video!
Thanks Joseph- Yeah if it was my job I would have filmed a bit more but I was actually just the helper that day since my other guy quoted the job and all. Thanks for watching
Good video! Im up there quite often. Security can be pretty strict there. If they see you take torches up they want to see a hot permit and you have to have a fire watch... HAHAHA I bet they freaked out when you were lowering the old condenser...
Yeah if it was a job I quoted I would have filmed a bit more but I was actually just the helper that day since my other guy quoted the job and all, just a different situation then most jobs I do. Thanks for watching
Those are the fun jobs where one does more walking than anything else. Well now that the rtu has a new compressor and coil it should be good for several years. Hopefully the hx is in good shape . I don't remember if that was mentioned.
Hey Brad- for sure, that day I got more cardio then I wanted, lol-- when my other guy there first quoted that job we inspected the exchanger, took pics and everything- It was fine, actually looked like it was replaced a few years ago. If it was cracked we would have insisted on replacing the unit. We did provide a quote to replace and one to repair, the customer went with that repair. Thanks for watching Brad
I use the recovery machine to charge large systems most of the time thru a drier all the time never had any issues. That strap is a CCH off a old Dunham bush compressor.
Good tip- usually ill throw my vacuum pump on the floor to warm up on the way to the job, then ill set my refrigerant tank in some hot water when I get there, didnt have that option at this place
Engine heater on.. Set heat on max and put the refrigerant on the front seat.... Then take the refrigerant from the front seat when you need it.. Works like a charm..
Good tip- depending where im at I usually let the tank sit in luke warm water for a while to get that pressure built up, most restaurants have a mop sink I use or mop bucket works just as well. Thanks for watching
Hey there- I agree, its been such a weird winter I dont even know what to make of it, where starting to slow down so I hope it either gets cold soon or hot-- thanks for watching
I have 2 of these heater straps , 1 failed and trips the RCD , the other 1 works but is a pain to install and really doesn't warm up that much , and like you said , it's definitely not wide enough , I had frost all around it whilst charging the other day. An electrical blanket might actually be a good idea like u said , or maybe that Milwaukee heated hoodie ! Pretty expensive solution that would be though !
I didn’t really take anything from the video. If you notice most the time you are at the store and then carrying the tools and parts. And then the condenser is already in place. I totally loved the video where you worked on a 20 ton unit and fixed the burner assembly though.
Check out a drum heater - they are wider and will go nearly all the way around a 55 gallon drum. So I bet it would go around that freon drum a couple of times... I used to used them to heat drums with 50 weight oil in -40 weather in alaska...
You know, if the mall cops were so concerned someone could get hit, mall cops could have offered to stand by the door for safety sake and help you do your job, rather than sit in the truck, keeping a squinty eye on the likes of you and your minion, ready to pounce at the moment you are trying to be efficient. Lord. I can't roll my eyes hard enough.
I didnt notice you worked in multiple states. that's cool. for us in nj sometimes take jobs in NYC but my opinion not worth the heartache but can be cool. you'll see some unique units in a lot of these high rises
Yeah usually thats the farthest I get to go out of my state, but your right its kinda nice to see the other fun stuff that exists in those other states
Nothing wrong with it, thats what we did in fact- when I say I want to commission the system I mean I just want to start it up, check temp rise, blower, and pressures to make sure the system actually works-- I wont need to adjust the charge or do anything with that at all.
Yup weigh it in. I always use the service panel to block off the condenser fan motor. This leaves an opening where the panel was and I put my drum on top to hold the panel down and warm my drum. You can move the panel to open the fan discharge and maintain about 230 to 250psi discharge on 22. A lot of times it is easier to get forgiveness than permission. I’d have gotten my stuff ready, helper on the roof. Rope off the area to protect the stupid ones. Rope the stuff up and then move as quick as possible. Rent a cop shows up tell him you’ll be done in a minute. Then go right back to work. There was nothing wrong with you lowering that coil there. Rent a cop was trying to show authority. I’d find out which unit served his office and shut it down. JK lol. Stay safe.
Thanks, and your right its usually easier to get forgiveness then permission, lol-- I think I know what unit services there office, and the disconnect is right out in the open, lol--
I subtract my expected delta by the measured discharge temp from the restricted condenser to approximate the simulated outdoor temp. It seems to work fairly well. You think the factory charge wouldn't work right on that unit?
Oh no I think the factory charge would work fine, I just want to make sure everything works as it should, blower, condensing fans, make sure the pressures are ok and the txv or pistons are feeding properly. However since we dont have any power for some reason we cant check anything, kind of a dumb situation, lol-- thanks for watching Erik
Good question- if I had saved the packaging I could tell you- Ill check the supply house when I return and see If I can dig up some more info on it. Thanks for watching
