Yes, we (in middle/high school in late 80s early-mid 90s) rocked Jordans back then, but you had to be REALLY careful or people would steal them or rob you for them. My first pair were Jordan 5s in black...awesome shoes!

  • @punkem733

He lost to those 86 Celtics, but Boston had 5 HOF players, not just all stars. They are a top 10 all time team, and on defense they may be top 5. The bulls in the 80's were one of the worse teams in all of sports. They should have been a 20-30 win team at best, most of them were doing hard drugs and drinking. MJ was the only reason the Bulls got into the playoffs so many years in the 80's. That game he scored 63 a playoff record that still stands. We all know the Larry Bird story calling him god disguised as MJ after that game.
In the 84 Olympics the NBA Olympic team played the best college kids that were going to the NBA in the next year. They played 8 or 9 games in July, and the college team led by MJ beat the NBA team every game, sometimes by like 20-30 points. Magic called MJ the best NBA player already, and he had yet to play on an NBA court. NO ONE in any sport who is one of the best, like magic is has ever said that about a rookie who has yet to turn pro.

See back then the heights/weights of players were played "loose". Also his coach at the Olympics, Bob Knight, one of the all time top college coaches, said that he did it after a shoot around, and believes when fresh, he might have had 50"+

Regarding Jordan's vertical leap, I saw a display at the Hall Of Fame that showed his 48" vert. They also displayed impressions of his hands, which allowed people to place their hands in to compare. I have decent sized hands and can palm a basketball. Jordan's hands dwarfed mine, and I remember telling the guys I was with that Jordan had hands like the Predator. Regarding the popularity of his shoes, some people actually got murked for their Jordans!

MJ retired early after his first 3 peat because the game was too easy for him he had nothing else to prove. But actually his father got murdered when he announced his retirement 😢. MJ definitely would win more championships if he never left for baseball just something he felt he had to do for his father.
