    You all look like you had great fun together. With both laughter and joy. Life is made up of many many millions of moments. May each of your moments be joyful. Expert Gary and Myra made me laugh a few times also his wife Carol was laughing in the background as well. In the mean time, I have no doubt that Adrian has had Ninja training in his younger days, after taking a glimpse of him working that rather large knife.

    This was lovely! I know you don't cook, but I'm so glad you did a heavy-duty cooking video, if only to show off how your boat can hold five people very comfortably. As much as I love watching videos on the minutiae of fitting out a narrowboat, this is what it's all for: living in and entertaining (occasionally. We don't have to go mad with it). I hope Father Christmas brought you a new chair. :(

    This is without a doubt the very best vlog of all narrowboaters. I amazed at the amount of food prepared in such a small space and everyone's great humour. Just so very English.....I am homesick. Cheers from Canada.

    No salt on the boat? The quartermaster (aka David) must walk the plank! (we all know you've got one, it's on the top of the boat beside the pole) Jokes aside...that does look like a lovely Christmas dinner! Tip of the hat to the chef's and of course the videographer....nicely done.

  • @ilblues

    Thank you David. That was lovely. Though I had to laugh when I saw the size of the turkey. We typically spend Thanksgiving with my wife's large family in the Midwest states and prepare a 22 pound bird for the horde to devour. Here they're often soaked for 24 hours in brine, jammed full of breaded stuffing, bagged in some kind of melt-proof plastic and baked for 4-6 hours. We put them in and out of the oven with a fork-lift. I imagine a bird that big would have made your boat list. On to the next video now. Bye bye!

    I am reckoned around these parts to be a dab hand in the kitchen having grown up with a mother who worked summers at camp as a cook for up to 100 ppl per meal, with me helping out. I learned a lot from her. But… "Expert Gary" and company had me watering at the mouth and rightly jealous of their skill in the kitchen. I would have been more than happy to have sat at your table for that amazing meal. Merry Christmas to everyone!

    I usually put the carrots, sprouts and potatoes straight into the roasting pan with the turkey after sprinkling them with some herbs. They cook up full of flavour and less tidying up after for me. We also usually have a salad and tourtierre that’s left over from Réveillion the night before. Then it’s mince tarts, Christmas pudding and tarte-a-sucre for dessert. Being a good Canadian i have to mix the English and French traditions. This year for Easter supper it’s going to be an Ethiopian feast because...... it’s delicious, and we’re all craving Doro Wot

    I just discovered your CTC volgs a few weeks ago here in West Central Illinois. I am completely charmed by them. I'm a bit of an Anglophile and had the good fortune of being able to visit your lovely country for about a month in 1983. We traveled from Dover up to Coventry and down to Salisbury and Chichester. I'm ashamed to admit, although I'm sure we must have crossed dozens of canals, that I don't remember actually seeing one. Now, as many of your other vlog viewers have confessed, I am trying to come up with a plan to at least spend a week sometime on a narrow boat for a holiday. The time and care you spend editing your vlogs is clearly evident and appreciated. Keep up the good work!

    I did not get in the mood for last Christmas, but in all honesty the next one is already sending its tendrils of hope and feel-good towards me! Patience, a bit more hunkering down and this will all be over by summer with a bit of luck, otherwise by fall. 🎄

    9:45 Contrary to popular belief, that does not actually sharpen the knife blade. That process is called knife honing, and it basically just straightens the edge of the blade that naturally curls over with use. It's an excellent form of maintenance that helps extend the life of the knife and extend the time between proper sharpening.
    I also strongly believe that one of the most dangerous tools in any kitchen is a dull knife.A sharp knife makes it effortless to use, which means you can more easily use it with precision. A dull knife on the other hand, requires more brute force to get the same results, and with more force comes the higher chance of loss of control of the blade.

    • @Jamie_kemp
      @Jamie_kemp 4 года назад +3

      Well said. A blunt knife that you have to force into something makes it much more dangerous because it's likely to slip into your hand

    I loved this video, nothing like a cheerful Christmas video! It was both heartwarming and very amusing! Time to nitpick... "knife sharpening"? 👀 The tool he used to 'sharpen' that knife is called a 'steel' (in The States, anyway). A steel is used only for honing AFTER it has been properly sharpened. (many moon's ago, I was a butcher). Also, as long as I'm picking nits, the male Masterchef used a fork to do his stirring with lol.

    Parboiling facilitates a nice, crisp, crunchy exterior on roast spuds and a pleasantly soft, mealy interior.

    Lovely, it is fascinating to see the differences between nations. Roasted vs mashed, fresh buns or Yorkshire, freshly cooked cranberry sauce. Your turkey seemed to be missing some bits, like the legs and wings. The roasted bones make a lovely stock for homemade soup to be enjoyed in future days when it is cold and dreary out. I have cooked a full similar meals in my caravan. Roasted chicken, roast beef and even a small turkey. The key to the lack of space is to prep the veggies the night before or earlier in the morning. I do love the idea of the multi level steamer.

      It called a bone in Turkey breast. You can find them all over the US. It's for those who think the dark meat isn't healthy enough, or those that like drier, less flavorful meat.
      They probably used it, because of the smaller oven.
