- Activists splattered the glass-covered "Mona Lisa" painting with soup at the Louvre Museum in Paris on Sunday, according to the food-security group behind the protest.
Two women opened thermoses and splashed the famous Leonardo da Vinci painting at about 10 a.m., said the group, Riposte Alimentaire, or "Food Response." A video posted online by the group showed streaks and splashes of orange on the bullet-proof glass and the blue wall behind the painting.

In reality the janitor can fix the problem with a few pennies worth of cleaning solution.

The painting wasn’t touched. It’s bulletproof non-reflective glass in front of it and the painting is in temperature and humidity control. It’s 521 years old. A lot goes into protecting it.
They should clean the glass themselves.

Its a replica behind bullet proof glass to form an illusion of the real painting being protected.. which it is, just not for public viewing. Since 1956 after someone threw acid on it and damaged the lower half, the original has been repaired meticulously and kept from public viewing

Vinci one of the world's greatest minds and one of the few free thinking people at the time. Who ever did that or supports it should never be allowed in a museum or building that holds anything of value. You can't destroy history and that painting is one of the most valuable paintings in the world, valued at 860 million to 1 billion dollars. Bill gates paid millions for his manuscripts and hand written notes / ideas / builds and made copies / pdf so everyone in the world can go online and share/ view it and thats the way things should be. Regardless of the value the historical value has no $ amount you can put to something that has survived over 500 years and was painted by one of the most famous people of all time.
