  • Arizona Vlog: Hey guys! Quick update, since the time of filming this vlog, we have in fact decided to move to the mainland, we're looking at Tucson, Arizona. It'll happen after my Invisalign treatment is completed. We've spent a lot of time in AZ over the years and love it, we miss the travel, adventures, family, friends, the business opportunities that living on the mainland offers. We've put many of our hobbies on hold to stay in Maui but we feel it's time to get back into doing what we love. Also the cost of living in Maui has become much more expensive over the years, even the rent in our tiny cottage has increased. We've been wanting to purchase land and a home of our own but I don't want to pay $400k, you know what I mean? I feel that what you get for your money, well... it just doesn't go very far here. We've been talking about it for quite awhile now and after weighing the pros and cons, we decided we're fully ready for new adventures. I'll be talking about all this in an upcoming video, so if you have any questions for us, ask away in the comments and I'll answer them in that vid. :D

Hey Christine. I have been living in Tucson since 2002 with my husband. We LOVE it here!!! I can not imagine living anywhere else to be honest with you. We had many opportunities over the years to move to the East Cost, Mid West, Canada, but we just love it here! There is so much to do here... It is just beautiful; we hike with our boys & dog every weekend; we have gone to California; Mexico. The outdoor lifestyle just cannot be beat. We have a pool & my boys are always in it... The cost of living is really good...I love the fresh air... I have lived in Vancouver & Montreal & I just can't imagine living there anymore😊. Seeing the mountains, the Saguarp, the beautiful sunsets, & sunrises everyday... I just can't take them for granted... I count my blessings 🙏

I always say follow your dreams. Tucson is a beautiful part of Arizona. I live in Albuquerque and it doesn't take long to get to the desert, just the smell of the desert after a rain, or the sage is awesome.

Hey guys! Phoenix here - congrats on wanting to join us!! Just something to keep in mind though: many people visit during these cool months and find it so beautiful they decide to move here - yay! But then after summer begins (in March!) they say "what the heck was I thinkin?" and a lot of them move away - boo! It is beautiful but it's also very very dry and while succulents grow great here, orchids don't and neither do a lot of other things that seem to grow everywhere else. I love Arizona and I love the heat, but I miss having a beautiful garden. Best of luck and many blessings!!

I've lived all over Arizona throughout my life and I honestly have had the best experiences and opportunity in the Phoenix-Metro area. Just because the surrounding towns are so close together so it feels like you're never too far away from an event, work, or anything else that you may want/need to get to. Especially with the expansion of the light rail system, getting around the valley has become a lot easier and cheaper. Not to mention that when you live in the Phoenix area, you're only about 1.5 to 2 hours away from some of the best ghost towns and just all-over gorgeous nature scenes, especially in the winter. Also, the hiking trails in the valley are amazing, since it is a valley.
The weather may suck from June til the beginning of October (though you can do really fun experiements during the summer; I baked cookies outside the other day haha) but the rest of the year is absolutely gorgeous. So worth.

I've lived in Tucson for the last 4 years and I really love it. Friendly people, phenomenal local food, gorgeous scenery, so if you love the outdoors it's perfect. I regularly go up to Mt. Lemmon, my dogs love it! We road trip around quite a bit to see more and we're not far from everything. When I first moved here I wasn't sure how I would like it (I grew up in Seattle & Minneapolis) but it's really grown on me and now we're looking at buying a home here.

Christine, first of all, I absolutely love your channel. I lived in Phoenix for 12 years. The desert is quite beautiful, especially in the spring time when the desert is in bloom. However, the summers are brutally hot. Yes, the air is dry, but it is really hot for about five months straight. At first it doesn't seem horrible, but over the years it really starts to wear on you. Some may say it's totally worth it when you are laying poolside in February. It's really a matter of preference. I'm jealous that you live on Maui! I think that would be my dream place to live! 😊

I've lived for one year in a tropical island. For some people it might look like paradise, while my husband and I got "island fever" - plane tickets to anywhere are just crazy expensive! Now we're so glad to be back in Europe: every weekend we take road trips and explore new places. Every now and then we fly to some European capital city we've never been to thanks to some affordable offers. Just my two cents for those that love traveling like me.

I've lived in AZ for almost seven years and thought I'd miss the trees if the mid Atlantic most, but Ive taken road trips up through CA and Utah so many times that just knowing they are so close is a comfort. I lived 21 years in Mesa and Scottsdale. Be prepared for the summers to be really hot, reaching 118. The most I miss about AZ is the scenery. I was born and raised in phoenix :) I love hiking there are many great hiking places, lakes and national parks. It's chill in Arizona the down town area isn't that big and the winters a good. I really recommend Scottsdale. The only bad think about Arizona is how extremely hot it is in the summer. The heat is not humid but very dry. Many people who are not from phoenix or Tucson have a hard time adjusting to the weather.

I moved to AZ in 1995 from CA and it wasn't so great then, but it is now. It's evolved and lots of mindful planning is happening especially in downtown Phoenix.I love it. It's close to California, Nevada, Colorado, and life is so different here compared to anywhere else because it's quieter, yet, with lots of outdoor activities. In the summers, it's honestly very hot and unbearable, but most of us go to any of our neighboring states for a few days to cool off, or we just drive up to Flagstaff ( 3 hours). Tucson is nice as well, but not much to do there. Good luck with your decision :) Thank you for all your wonderful and honest videos!

Born and raised in Tucson! It really is beautiful, the city surrounded by mountains. Lots of lakes, rivers, snow even is only 2 hours away in northern az. People are friendly, very warm community family vibe. Weather is perfect year round. Did you guys check out Sabino canyon in Tucson?

Tucson is a very beautiful city and the sunsets are amazingly gorgeous! It's not a very large city but not too small either. If you get tired of the heat in the summer, you can always travel up to northern Arizona for the weekend to escape the heat for a while. Cost of living is very low here, and I recommend just researching the best areas in town to live in. Some areas can be really rough just like in any other city. It would be great to have you in Tucson, and one last thing, I really enjoy watching your videos!

What an exciting move! You'll have so many opportunities and different experiences. I lived in Tucson (North Oro Valley,) for 6 years and--just like every other place--there are pros and cons.
    Pros:
Great weather most of the year. It does get HOT during the summer for a couple of months and can get cold in the winter, but most often you'll be wearing a t-shirt in December, looking up at the snow on Mt. Lemmon. There are a LOT of artists and writers in Tucson, always an art show happening and lots of weekend festivals. You can get CSA Veggie boxes which are so fun, because you can try veggies you've never seen before from local farmers. Loads of hiking, biking, and trails to explore. There's good, innovative healthcare, a big music scene, restaurant, plays and even some Broadway musicals come through. It's easy to get to drive to surrounding states, only 4 hours drive to Puerto Penasco and all the resorts on the Gulf, 5.5 hours to San Diego, 1.5-2 hours to PHX, 4 hours to Sedona, trains that can hook up to other routes all across the country (for that extra-adventure,) and an international airport for when the big travel bug strikes. You'll meet people from all over the world who are visiting, and people from all over the country who moved there for the quality of life, (I've even met people that moved over from Maui!) And of course, you'll have a plethora of cactus and succulents to choose from. (The botanic garden and Tohono Chul Park has semi annual sales for plants every year, too.)
You can buy a beautiful house, with giant views and a quarter acre for under $300,000.
    Cons:
It's dry, so you start carrying lip balm and lotion with you all the time. It's a bigger, small city, so there is some crime. A lot of it is toward the city central and south of the city center. We lived in the north part and it felt safe. There's a break in here, a speeding ticket there...pretty much the same as everywhere. Since there are so many "snowbirds", people that live there during the winter and then go back to their northern residences the rest of the year, there are a bunch of different driving styles, none of them quite flowing. :-) (If you take it as a quaint quirk of Southern AZ, you'll be fine.)
    Congratulations on your future!

I live in Colorado. During one of my home health visits I met a couple that had a beautiful collection of gemstones. Well they had built a large shadow box coffee table and place ed all their treasures inside. Well not all of them, but some of them. We went with our daughter and son in law to pick pinon nuts this past fall and found some pretty rocks. My brother has been making the most beautiful miniature homes out of rocks and of course uses other mediu, but yeah unbelievable talent. I didn't want your video to end. Good luck on moving. Southern Colofado is getting as hot as Arizona record breaking temps this month, 10 out of 30 days was above 70 degrees.

I'm from San Diego and have been here since I was 16 years old; 1976. I love Phoenix. We have Sedona and the snow capped mountains of Flagstaff and skiing just 2-3 hours from Phoenix. We have the beautiful ocean/Sea of Cortez in Rocky Point Mexico just 4 hours away and the oceans of San Diego and Los Angeles just 6 hours away. Phoenix has so much culture from the Native Americans, the professional sporting events and Spring Training and a healthy life style. I love it here.

I live in Tucson! :-) I was born and raised here, moved away for a year and RAN back. I never appreciated how amazing the desert was until I was in Florida haha. I've watched your videos for years now, and I think you guys would fit right in! The weather is so fantastic... especially for gardening (which we BOTH love). Other than monsoon season, there's not much you have to worry about! The desert after a good rain is bomb, and the lightning is pretty crazy!!! Its the desert, so it gets HOT. Last summer some days were pushing 111. I think that's the only flaw. Winter's are normally mild, though it can get down to 19 degrees some nights... and it snows here sometimes! The hiking is amazing!!! I used to walk Sabino Canyon every night when I lived north of the city. Mount Lemmon is a half hour away from my house, so the cooler weather and pines are very close! Isn't the drive up and down awesome!? It doesn't always snow enough to ski, but most winters the resort receives enough powder to be open for at least a month. You can always ride the ski lift, and even without snow its beautiful! Tombstone and Bisbee are great day trips to take. There is also the Desert Museum, and Old Tucson Studios! There is a lot of ancient history in and around Tucson, and all around the state!! I graduated from the Univeristy of Arizona, and while I had plans on being a Public Health official, I found myself becoming a florist, and I really can't see myself doing anything different! At the U of A there is an AMAZING Indian museum (The Arizona State Museum), which teaches you all about the ancient people of the Southwest. It also has the largest collection of weaved baskets and pottery! Shopping wise, I live 3 minutes away from Target, Starbucks, Ross, Kirklands and Pier One (haha, are you freaking out!?) I think it's safe to say I LOVE Tucson, and I'm so glad that you guys do too :-)

Christine, we live in the Phoenix suburbs, but not in Phoenix. We moved here 19 years ago from Atlanta, GA. We LOVE Arizona. The State is so diverse and there is a climate for everyone!! Tucson is beautiful. We transferred with my husband's company and that's why we're in Phoenix area. ALL of Arizona is so beautiful and I think I have always been a "cowgirl" at heart!!. We wouldn't think of moving, It does get hot for a few months in the summer but I can't take the cold anymore, even in Georgia. I wouldn't think of moving from AZ!!!! We have no flies, fleas or mosquitoes!! It's so nice to be able to sit outside and enjoy and not get eaten up by mosquitoes!! The beautiful, sunny weather, makes you feel so good!! I have also visited Maui and I loved Hawaii too. However, couldn't imagine living permanently as so far from the mainland. COME ON!! If you and Michael are outdoor enthusiast you will LOVE Arizona!!!

I grew up in Tucson and it was great (at least as a kid it was). We hiked almost everyday and the scenery still blows my mind. It's not just desert out there, there's beautiful streams and I still vividly remember a few waterfalls in a place called Sabino Canyon. Definitely a memorable place and a great place to settle down.

I live on Oahu for almost 30 years. I love Maui but it is not enough for me. I think I could live anywhere as long as my family is there. The price of things is frustrating. To me not the little things but the rent and electricity costs are horrible. I wonder how much it costs to have air conditioning in Arizona. Aloha, Renee
