The delivery on that “you’re a fucking disappointment” line is absolutely incredible acting. You can tell by his face that he’s not even looking at Homelander, he’s seeing and talking to himself, accepting that what his father said was true.
I think SB always knew deep down that he wasn't a good guy and was an asshole as a front for his insecurities. Homelander thinks he's a great guy and the world is wrong (NPD) When he finally saw Homelander he was so disappointed at how fucked up he was. For him, it must have been like looking in a mirror, so he knew he had to stop him.
I love the little detail of Homelander actually running over to Ryan before going after Soilder Boy. Nice little touch that he actually does seem to care for him.
I don’t think he cares all that much, he might in the moment but I think he wants Ryan on his side to mess with Butcher more than him actually caring for him. Plus I think Ryan is gonna go back to Butcher since well Homelander is a psychopath and yea Butcher isn’t far from that either but he still cares for Ryan more than Homelander does. That’s just how I see it tho, won’t know what happens until the next season
@@sentry3019 I actually think Homelander cares for Ryan, he wants to look after someone because he didn't have anyone to look up to and to trust growing up. Meanwhile, Butcher doesn't really love Ryan but he loved his wife and cares for her final word which was to keep Ryan from being swayed and taken. He may be upset to see Ryan hurt but at the end of the day, for him, it is Homelander's son.
It’s sad because this is the most real Homelander’s ever been, what he wants most is what he never got- genuine love. Psychopath he may be, but he knows what he’s lacking and he wants it.
@@TalesfromRedroom boohoo we all need to find love homelander is a fucking disappointment. People have alot less than homelander and they aren't self centered self serving murderous psycopaths.

@@Kyle-2020 you really crafted such a false narrative based on your personal issues. SB wasn’t simply “honoring his commitment” he hates himself which is why he hates homelander and said what his dad said to him. Billy kept his commitment to Becca and Maeve kept her commitment to try to kill HL. Did you watch the show?
The problem is Soldier boy was the only one that could have stopped Homelander. Ryan saved Homelander here twice directly and indirectly, and he even enjoyed his father's way of living. He's on the path of being the new Homelander and Butcher will just have to end him.
Say that children gravitate toward love and attention. They’re starving for it when they have a lack of it. Homelander is a psycho, but the one thing, the one redeeming quality to him is his desire for life. The fact that he protected Ryan. Shows he’s capable of changing. I heard someone tell me before, that Homelander was not the villain of the show. And clearly I can see it now.
You’re wrong because this episode taught us that soldier boy isn’t the only one who can beat him, Maeve did some insane damage to him, his super hearing is done for. Star light will be the next to fight homelander and I think she will win, she got an insane power boost after that episode
FinalFlash nonsense all across the board his ears are fine, and plus Starlight only was temporarily power booster because she was able to absorb a metric fuckton of energy
Technically, his portrayal was absolutely nothing like the original character. In that sense, he missed the mark by a mile. Of course, this version of Soldier Boy was a billion times better than the one in the comic, so in that sense, he knocked it out of the park. Honestly, it's very rare that an adaptation changes so much about the original and still is enjoyable on its own merits. The Boys is in a very small clubhouse on that accord.
@@willchurch8376 there's always this pathetic nerd that cries when a character or story is not portrayed as the original. Especially in this case the comics was actually shit compared to the show.

Homelander genuinely cares about Ryan. He's a horrible person and is a terrible influence, but when Ryan was hurt that was real fear he felt for him. He even told him to go back upstairs when he knew it was dangerous. Amazing character, fascinating to watch. Great finale.
@@light-qe3gv Butcher isn't a boyscout and in a normal world I would agree but in this one if I were to compare them to other comic book characters. Butcher is a slightly more sarcastic Frank Castle, while Homelander is an even more psychotic and petty, yet dumber and lazier Eobard Thawne.
@@halo3isawsome321 Shoehorned how? They very clearly set up his fallout with Butcher in episode 3 and it was only a matter of time before Homelander found him. Yes because of him Homelander is still alive, but there is also a big chance that most of them would have died there and Neuman would have had her one way ticket to becoming President since there would be no one else left to stop her. Which obviously have been her long term plan since that will end up giving Vought the one thing they have been trying to get the entire show. A control that will start with the US government and it's military and then end with literally owning the entire planet.
I really hate how everyone thought that stopping Soldierboy was more important than killing Homlander, the guy who had been the biggest threat since S1, especially MM, Annie, and Billy all of them were so clouded by emotions they missed the perfect opportunity to kill HL but no let's kill the guy who is literally willing to help us kill him. 🤦♂️
Butcher went 1v1 to him and got good upright Homelander was an unstoppable threat, now he is just an super threat He can die, and has fears like any other person, that is what moved people into being more agressive Also what you expected, the butcher to let Ryan die too? Like Ryan is not just an boy, he is Becca son, he is like Becca and if butcher loved her, he will love Ryan too Like he already did with his promise and his, moments with the boy, truly I wish those 2 can live an normal life together
How telling that Soldier Boy used the same, haunting insult that his own father derided him with when he called him a disappointment. Had they had a little more interaction here he might've called him a shortcut born straight from the womb who didn't even earn his powers.
I love the extra parallel at the start of the episode with soldier boy also doing the "YOU guys are the real heroes" line. even if it was scripted its very telling of their similar positions
I guess it’s because he’s just that disconnected from his son he never met him or raised him but even if he had, he would’ve probably done the same thing his father did because that’s who Soldier Boy is: an insecure guy who takes pride in being a “real man” when a real man would never hurt his son, neither verbally nor physically

Ironically, his own father, who's right in front of him, despise him. And he cares so much to his son. This is proof that Ryan is his weakness. He doesn't have parental figure on his life, even Vogelbaum sees him as a product, so he tried his best to be a good father to Ryan.

What I love about this scene is how everyone kept their word. Soldier Boy held his end of his bargain with Butcher but unfortunately, Butcher also held on to his promise to Becca. I interpret the look they had with Maeve as “we may be ready to die but we’re not total assholes to involve an innocent child.” It solidified him as a murderous psycho who is still fighting to keep his humanity by protecting those he cares about(Hughie and Ryan). Plus, it was also a moment of conviction for Queen Maeve that they might not need Soldier Boy anymore as they think they’re already brave enough to do it on their own. Had Ryan been not involved in this episode, we won’t even be getting another season 😂
If Ryan wasnt there homelander was getting Nuked for sure. Maeve is stronger than Hughie by a huge mile and she did extremely well against Homelander even though he was holding back as he was distracted and also in some twisted way he actually probably loves Maeve or at least thinks he does which is why he didn't kill her earlier. I love that Soldier Boy earlier said that he wanted kids so he could be different than his own father. Then he says the exact thing to Homelander his dad said to him.
Because he accepted the truth that his father was right. Soldier boy hates himself and seeing his son turn out just like his was the ultimate disappointment. Soldier boy didn't want his kids to turn out like him, he wanted them to be better then him but instead homelander became a darker reflection of him.
All the more reason to kill him to. You can't have a person live from a young age with power like that, and not turn out a horrible monster. Butchers goal of kill all supers is the correct one. I feels like Soldier Boy saying that homelander was a dissapoinment to him was cearly because he wanted his son to be not as asshole as he is but he wasnt there to "fix" HL upbringing resulting in the current megalomaniac homelander just like soldier boy is. Truth is, soldier boy did the right call to end his family line because deep down he knew it well that his legacy of assholeness will continue through homelander and ryan if he wouldn't step in to end it all. Thats a deeper thought to what Soldier boy really think and act on this episode from my point of view But yeah its a personal opinion bruv pls dont take me too seriously 🥴
Soldier Boy realized that if he had a son he would've wanted a better life and upbringing than the one he got. In seeing his lineage stand before him he realized that whatever he could've done for these two if he was apart of their lives was long since passed, that no matter what he could've done for them now, who and what they were had already been set in stone. The only thing he could really do now was make sure that no one else could be hurt by him and his anymore.
I have a different take on this: Soldier Boy wanted his dad to acknowledge and praise him. He considered this weakness and despised himself for having such a human need. When he saw Homelander he was reminded of himself. That's why he cries when Homelander tells him that they both are the same
Thats a very nuanced way of looking at it. Tbh I think Soldier Boys intentions should be taken at face value. He’s still an asshole, he just wanted Homelander to not be such an insecure baby. That’s my opinion.
What I enjoy about this writing is that we actually cheer for Soldier Boy. Our 'heroes' are teaming up with the supposed 'villain', against an anti-hero. And you get these confused and anxious feelings of wtf and excitement for seeing 2 people who would never team up actually do so. All while not wanting Homelander to win in any manner and actually not minding if Soldier boy gets done what he has to even at the cost of a kid. I just enjoy mostly that The Boys scratches away all OG dialogue of how stories would go, and just interweaves good and evil, good outcomes and bad outcomes into one big mess of "We're not doing anything like anyone else does". It's refreshing.
@@justflex6745 I say anti-hero because they have depicted him as a savior for ages is all. Anti-hero and anti-villain are based a lot on what people viewed them as. Much like heroes and villains are the same.

The writers did a major 180 with the finale, we thought soldier boy would work with homelander, we thought butcher would get Hughie killed, we thought Noir would die fighting soldier boy. Yet the opposite of what everyone was expecting happened. This show always seems to surprise with each episode, and each episode is truly unpredictable. Can't wait for season 4.
I was fairly confident that soldier boy wasn’t gonna work with homelander, and that hughie wouldn’t die, but I didn’t expect black noir to go out before fighting soldier boy
To be fair, when a Supe slams your young son with a 100+ pound shield at full force and is about to execute him just to kill Homelander with no hesitation whatsoever, you’d probably also be having some serious doubts about him
Emotionally sure, but I wouldn't let that stop me. By not killing Homelander he's potentially dooming the entire human race. Literally. There's no question what the correct move was.
@@lsd-rickb-1728 theyre back to the drawing board. But maybe not with no powers. Butcher is garunteed to die. He has nothing left to lose at all. So he might take permanent V in season 4.
i think that soldier boy has the potential to be an anti hero, many things he did troughtout this season show that he struggles to live with what he did, sure he killed all the members from payback, but that little time he shared with butcher and hughie and seeing how they protected each other, made him realize what being a true leader and being on a team is all about, do you really think he believed butcher when he told him hughie flinched from the battle? he realized he was trying to protect hughie and looking at his actions he knows he messed up big, he could very well return as a "new" man in future seasons
That's pretty much why soldier boy is my favorite character he's a man who struggles physiologically from decades of trauma,in my opinion he's the most human
Oh no he's a grade-A asshole. He's power-mad but it plateau'd at the old Faith mantra of 'Want Take Have.' Homelander is just gonna get crazier and crazier.

Soldier Boy was in pain knowing he was about to kill his dream of raising his own son and grandson but he knew how fucked up homelander is being an experiment of vought and Ryan was about to become even worst if raise by homelander. Soldier boy knows betrayal and wouldn't break a deal to Butcher after saving him and helped him kill his former friends that are traitors to him. Sadly soldier boy now gets betrayed again by Butcher and it was all PTSD again for Soldier Boy.
This is actually the perfect twist and actually incredibly sad, all Homelander ever wanted as a child in the comics was a mother and someone to actually love him.
In all seriousness though this scene really shows how the abuse cycle repeats itself from father to son, instead of super heroes though it just happens in families all over
Yeah instead of soldier boy accepting what homelander said and trying to comfort him, he reinforces it and basically ensures that he will always be as bad as him, instead of helping him. People make such retarded arguments about this too, saying that "he saw bad qualities in him so he knew he didn't deserve to be helped" lol obviously he has bad qualities, helping him and accepting him as a son would have definitely given a chance to have homelander become a person who can care for others and isn't constantly insecure and needing to feel love, because he would have gotten what he needed deep down, the love of a parent.
homelander seems to always forget about his ability to fly lmao, which was kinda whats special about him, he can fly and generate tons of speed and force, yet he missed a lotta punches on Maeve......i mean, comon
Before watching the show everyone told me that! Season 3 to me was the worst except for the Homelander stuff. Mother’s Milk was awful in season 3. Season two was honestly the best, ending and all. They really, really, REALLY fucked up S 3 ending. With Ryan turning evil and Butcher becoming a pussy, it's a fucking massacre.
Yeah this season was their only way of stopping HL. Now with even his father turning on him he is truly unleashed. I don’t see what Victoria can do , Butcher can probably laser her brain out and be done with her under a couple episodes. Now it’s either they do a time skip and we see Ryan going bad or it’ll be more shenanigans about the Boys forming a lame ass plan to stop HL with another forgotten hero from a time even before Soldier Boy (even tho they said Stormfront and him were the first V users I’m sure they’ll create another one whose even stronger but this time it’ll be a woman stuck in Korea)
That little moment between Homelander and Soldier Boy is sad. I agree. I think that part of the reason why Soldier Boy hates homelander so much. Is because homelander is basically the same person that soldier boy was pre torture. But post torture soldier boy doesn't have that weakness. He doesn't need adoration or affection. He is a stone cold killer. And more of a human weapon than a person. So when he saw homelander. And saw a reflection of his own previous arrogance and sycophantic ways. That is what drove soldier boy into full on kill mode. He wanted to kill homelander. We didn't get anywhere near enough of him this season
I've always felt that Homelander doesn't like Butcher but is FASCINATED with him because he can sense that Butcher is completely fearless and indifferent around him and no one else is. This is first established in the Season 1 scene when they're in the outdoor sports arena and Homelander looks down the bleachers and everyone else is facing away but Butcher is glaring at him and Homelander is noticeably thrown off because every other human walks on eggshells around him. He doesn't kill Butcher because this is literally a new experience for him, to interact with someone who never lies to him because he isn't operating from fear.
you guys are forgetting about Edgar but difference is that Homelander can still view him as Vought whereas Butcher is just a supposed random that he gets fascinated by because he's not scared of him at all
2:29, the exact moment Homelander dies on the inside. Almost makes you feel sorry for him. Despite all the terrible things he's done, despite the fact that he is beyond redemption. On the inside he's still just a scared, lonely, little boy.
Yeah... I said before: Soldier Boy is an asshole on a human level. A guy who hits people. Homelander is a straight-up crazy lunatic. To quote a meme, they are _not_ the same.
Exactly. Soldier boy might be an asshole, but he’s the type of asshole to beat your ass and then laugh at you. Homelander will literally laser you and everyone you care about, and then destroy the block you live on just for good measure. Also, whatever you think of soldier boy, he’s honorable and keeps his promises, and at the very least tries not to kill innocents. Homelander doesn’t give a shit. Idk what butcher was thinking
No one talks about the emotional intelligence and introspection Soldier Boy displayed when he calls Homelander a disappointment. When he looks at Homelander, he finally realizes what his father told him all those years ago was correct. And this is why I want a Soldier Boy redemption arc.
I bet he's getting one next season. He will team up with homelander to kill butcher, then likely go against homelander once Homelander does something drastic with his presidential power, by doing that he can let go of his feelings of being a dissapointment and actually be the "real man" and actually prove his worth.
Geez homelander is such a complex character, at one point he doesnt care if he has no one by his side, on the other hand, he would as far as beg for approval from someone else. That's why I love the character, so much depth!
I know everyone been saying it but man give Homelander all the Emmy’s this scene is just amazing and when he’s talking to the deep, Ashley and A train and just dissing them knowing they just gotta take it. This dude is just next lvl he’s getting up there with Walter whites, Tony soprano’s, don Drapers of the world
I just started binge watching all the episodes. This series is soooo good. Great acting, writing and effects. Every character has so many levels. It's addictive.
Damn it I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Soldier boy he’s my fav character the way he’s portrayed in the show I hope he actually ends up killing homelander later, they should do that rather than it being a clone doing it in the comics
Every person Homelander kills in S4 is Butcher's fault. Writers cornered themselves and had to kill a character to get out of the impasse. Show went from quality to just good entertainment.
I love how in most tv shows/movies when children first exhibit their super powers, it’s usually at the expense of another unfortunate person. But in this case, after Ryan lasers soldier boy, he just gets back up and is like “turn that shit off”
I think what's amazing is that Soldier Boy literally became his own father despite hating him, while Homelander was able to escape that and actually care about his son. He wasn't manipulating Ryan in the garden, he actually wants the love of his son and I think that even though he's a psychopath, at least he'll be a better father than soldier boy ever could have been
@@bartu913 it could go one of two ways with that. Either yeah, Ryan annoys him or Ryan literally becomes a mini HL which I see happening with that little sociopath smile he gave at the end

Say that children gravitate toward love and attention. They’re starving for it when they have a lack of it.

Of course, this version of Soldier Boy was a billion times better than the one in the comic, so in that sense, he knocked it out of the park.
I have a different take on this:
Soldier Boy wanted his dad to acknowledge and praise him. He considered this weakness and despised himself for having such a human need.
When he saw Homelander he was reminded of himself.
That's why he cries when Homelander tells him that they both are the same
Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Yet the opposite of what everyone was expecting happened. This show always seems to surprise with each episode, and each episode is truly unpredictable. Can't wait for season 4.
Honestly I'm really fucking glad Hughie didn't die. There's no show without him

i think that soldier boy has the potential to be an anti hero, many things he did troughtout this season show that he struggles to live with what he did, sure he killed all the members from payback, but that little time he shared with butcher and hughie and seeing how they protected each other, made him realize what being a true leader and being on a team is all about, do you really think he believed butcher when he told him hughie flinched from the battle? he realized he was trying to protect hughie and looking at his actions he knows he messed up big,
he could very well return as a "new" man in future seasons
That's pretty much why soldier boy is my favorite character he's a man who struggles physiologically from decades of trauma,in my opinion he's the most human
Oh no he's a grade-A asshole. He's power-mad but it plateau'd at the old Faith mantra of 'Want Take Have.' Homelander is just gonna get crazier and crazier.

Because there's no emotion into it. SB was betrayed, tortured and when he got free, he realised they created something better than him using his sperm.
But it would be worth it to kill Homelander because he's just as bad
The smirk on Butcher’s face always gets me 😂
Yeah 😂😂 because finally, someone told him the truth about Homelander to his face

Before watching the show everyone told me that! Season 3 to me was the worst except for the Homelander stuff. Mother’s Milk was awful in season 3. Made one my favorite characters my least favorite that season! They also walked the political line too much this season! As a trump supporter the Homelander killing someone in front of his supporters was hilarious because instantly thought of that joke Trump made! Good play on that! lmao you sound just like his father
Just like how he killed off his own personal weakness during the 40 years of torture he experienced at the hands of the soviets.
“he is human” that lined delivered is amazing you can tell he thinks himself well above humanity
For a spilt second, Homelander closed his eyes and accepted his fate.
Honestly SB ... was betrayed here and I have no fucking idea why Butcher did what he did - promise my ass to Becca. Truth is that SB wasn't after Ryan , but Ryan did come into play and couldn't be ignored. Butcher of all should know killing Homelander could come with sacrifices - but when it comes to it - he backs off.
Thing is SB came here to kill Noir and Homelander - and he frigging was about to - as Homelander got absolutelly overpowered like some random normie.
If SB comes back somehow - he would be right to come after Boys.
MM also being idiot as always ... goes after SB BEFORE SB kills Homelander NOT after as he should - taking out Homelander is still a must. They must realise that by this point right ?
What I'm trying to say - why not take both SB and HL ? MM could think for once .
And tower was evacuated already - Hughie job.
So what now ... Ryan saved but turning into 2nd Homelander seeing Daddy just kills people for free to "protect" him. Gj Butcher and MM.

Homelander: "I know what its like to have your team betray you"
Soldier Boy: *Has his team betray him 2 minutes later*
2:29, the exact moment Homelander dies on the inside. Almost makes you feel sorry for him. Despite all the terrible things he's done, despite the fact that he is beyond redemption. On the inside he's still just a scared, lonely, little boy.

Also, whatever you think of soldier boy, he’s honorable and keeps his promises, and at the very least tries not to kill innocents. Homelander doesn’t give a shit. Idk what butcher was thinking

I bet he's getting one next season. He will team up with homelander to kill butcher, then likely go against homelander once Homelander does something drastic with his presidential power, by doing that he can let go of his feelings of being a dissapointment and actually be the "real man" and actually prove his worth.
