The fact that you require a weapon to prevent others from imposing their will on you is a manifestation of your own weakness. If your will is strong enough, then you shouldn't need to use violence or carry a weapon. Those whom carry a weapon are fearful and are lacking in faith. Matthew 5:38-39 says "Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also." Scripture clearly states that you are not supposed to use violence ever and that you are NOT supposed to resist evil.

    • @lukewaggoner2709

Also, Exodus 20:13 says "Thou shalt not kill." Matthew 26:52 says "Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword." The Messiah is stating that those whom kill will surely die. Those who kill anyone, for any reason at all, are guilty. Therefore they deserve to die. They will die by the wrath of The Creators hands.

Being peacemakers means we don't instigate violence, and, whenever possible, we use peaceful means to settle differences with others. But if someone is employing violence against us, there may be times when using violence in response is the only way we can stop the attacker and restore peace.

@@michaelbell75 Christ embraced his necessary fate. He knew the result before the event. The apostles fighting back would have diminished that sacrifice. Moses and the Israelites would have been defenseless against the Romans. I won’t go looking for trouble; but I will defend my family or myself. I would propose that carrying should make you more cautious about avoiding issues. You should remain more situationally aware and look to avoid confrontation. That firearm is a last resort; not a first choice.

As a Christian, I concur with everything stated in this video. In fact, I'm a pastor and have been for 35 years. There isn't a Sunday that goes by that I don't have my 9mm on me...as on my belt...while preaching. I'm not alone in the congregation, as some of the men AND women are armed. It's the times we live in. I've had friends involved in church shootings and it ain't happening on my watch. Anything we can do to protect ourselves is OK with the Lord. Being a door mat and letting folks run over us like a steamroller is never called for in Scripture. The folks that use the 'turn the other cheek' passages are using them incorrectly if they're trying to make us out as milk-toast door mats. If we can stop someone from trying to hurt a child, an innocent bystander or even ourselves, we have done what we could...and done a good deed. Yes, the Big 10 states 'thou shalt not murder' no 'thou shalt not kill.' Biggie diff!

The Bible is full of references of believers carrying weapons for self defense. Like the pastor that posted here, my pastor, about half the men and many of the women have a carry permit and use it. We also take group trips to the local range for practice. Too many churches have been shot up because they couldn't defend themselves.

@Don't Hate Me - I'm Just A Messenger I don't have to defend my faith. I'm here that others may live. You have no idea about turn the other cheek. I've risen to defend others, same thing Jesus did in healing that ear. Jesus defended that man. Yes, I am not a healer, okay at first aid and CPR, stay level even being shot at.
Guess you haven't been in the stink. If you are dead, you are useless unless someone wants to use your body as a bullet catcher. If you are dying, you are a burden on all those around you. JESUS DEFENDED THE MAN COMING TO TAKE HIM AWAY. Some of us would do the same. Again, read The Book, you will see if your heart is in the right place. You're not going to die a martyr, you'll die a fool. Jesus instructed us clearly about defending ourselves and others.
I don't know why all you Bible thumpers act this way. Cowardice? 🤷‍♂Probably
Using twisted scripture to attempt to be holier than others. It's plain to see you are selfish, not self-sacrificing. You know nothing of Jesus. I know where I'm going when I'm dead, pretty sure of where you're going because you won't fight to keep others alive.

The issue is understanding Old English.
Since murder is a newer word, it didn’t exist in OE, “thou shalt not kill” was understood to be “thou shalt not murder” killing in self defense or in war etc wasn’t viewed as breaking the 6th commandment.
Even in the Law self defense is acceptable. Accidentally killing someone is also covered in Leviticus which is why there are sanctuary cities where manslaughter perpetrators could flee to and not be slain by those seeking vengeance. Or by those charged with catching and executing murderers.

There is just no way you can prevent collateral injury and death. Hows about making a powerful laser but not paying too much attention to beam stability and control at long range? Hows about one at 300 miles, not powerful at that range to penetrate metal or uniforms nor stable enough to stay on target long, but still powerful enough to boil eyeballs? Turn that thing loose with green troops and let them hit the field. They dont have to kill anyone. Just turn it on and let the instability wobble about the battlefield at range and fry the eyeballs of 5% of the troops? you cant tell me that wouldnt take the fight out of the rest of the guys and demorilize their commanders. One can argue that it is a gray area when it comes to regular citizens, but a law enforcement officer is not only authorized, but also expected to use physical force when needed. This is regardless of whether the officer is Christian or not.
"Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due: taxes to whom taxes are due, customs to whom customs, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor."

What good is any of it if public servants can simply write another law nullify the ones that prohibit them from doing what they want? The Bill of Rights was written specifically to remind government servants of the limitations of their authority, but we, over a long period of time, have allowed government overreach to the point that they now think it’s within their authority to violate our rights at will. We must stand up for and exercise our God-given rights, no matter what public servants say. After all, there are more of us than them!

The way I see it God will only intervene when we as humans can't go on, or can't do something ourselves. If you look at all the examples in the bible, that's what is sums up to. Look at all the examples when the Hebrew left Egypt., when God gave them food...one preacher said well if God gave them food couldn't He put it straight in their bellies? Well he could have, but he didn't because God does not want us to be lazy, we need to do our part and as long as we work together, we are blessed.

It states that the total siege lasted 72 days in which the roman troups stayed out of the fray. Jesus eventually stormed the temple and run the theives out which cost three money changers lives. Please note he did not raise them. What was Jesus response to the Sadducees abd Pharisees. It verged on violence. Thou Shalt not Kill.
What is the context of this statement?
      That one should never kill?
      Well clearly not.
God gave several instances in which a life should be taken.
God called the Israelites to war several times.
      >>>
We see one example of what type of killing we shouldn't do from what you've posted.
      We shouldn't kill for revenge.
And revenge is done ultimately out of anger.
      Or even jealousy.
      >>>
So there's a time to kill?
      >>>
      ***Ecclesiastes 3:3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
      >>>
Looking at every instance in which killing in the Bible was allowed, we see a pattern.
When it was used for self defense. To save a life. And ultimately to keep everything on the path of God's plan.
Except in one instance when self defense was rejected, because the life that would be killed would save the world.
      Jesus's execution.
      >>>
So what might one say that "Thou shalt not kill" means?
Common sense would tell you it means do not murder.

@@LNR65 The word there is 'murder,' not 'kill.' The law is the representative image of God. It reflects His divinity, glory, and perfection. It is a description of His traits, and God most definitely killed. In fact, God likely has the single biggest body-count of any being in existence. 'Murder' has always meant 'unjustified killing.'
      "Jesus is the new covenant,"
Which voids the old covenant, _explicitly_ . The law and the prophets are supposed to _pass away_ once they are fulfilled, and, again, per Jesus and Paul both, the sacrifice on the cross fulfilled the law and the prophets. Paul goes as far as to say that those who then practice the works of the law after the hearing of the faith are rebonded into the curse of the law, to practice every point. I've got news for you; the so-called 'ten commandments' are part of that law. They're not particularly special in any way in that regard.
"Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also."
A strike on the cheek is an insult. This is about not returning insult for insult, specifically. In any case, the entire point is about balancing legal scales, and how one shouldn't seek to do so; it says nothing about mutual combat, or _overcoming_ evil, which, if you recall, is done by good.
"not the old which you are using to justify killing."
Ecclesiastes wasn't part of the old covenant. It was the greatest of wisdom penned down for other people to read, and it contains lots of observations of universal principles. It's like saying that the phrase 'ringeth the nose and it bringeth forth blood' is part of the old covenant because it's in proverbs. No, it's not, it's an observation about a particular fact of the human body. That said, you should pay special attention to Ecclesiastes 1:18, and ask yourself why the same author also wrote 'The Song of Solomon.'

@Don't Hate Me - I'm Just A Messenger “Vengeance is mine” has nothing to do with defence: the first is punishment, the latter is doing everything in your life to protect your life or the one of someone else, so if that’s the case you shouldn’t be going around being a vigilante, but if your life is threatened I don’t think it’s a wrong thing to defend it

    • @juanmejiagomez5514
      @juanmejiagomez5514 Год назад +4

@Don't Hate Me - I'm Just A Messenger You’re misrepresenting what I wrote. I never said it’s ok to go around with a gun to kill someone, as that implies that you carry the gun in hopes of killing somebody with it, I said it’s ok to be prepared to defend your life and the ones of the people around you even with lethal force if necessary. There’s a huge difference in intent between the two. But let’s say, hypothetically, that we lived in a world where everyone was a perfectly good Christian that believed that no violence is ever justified, except for one person who is extremely hateful and decides to go shoot up a school. What should we do about that, just let it happen? Because not even the police could intervene if they were good christians, should we just allow the murderer to murder? Now let’s imagine a more realistic hypothetical, where the good christian that believes no violence is ever justified, happens to be caught in the middle of a mass shooting, what should he do? Just hide or run until the police comes to put down the murderer and save everyone? If that’s the case you’re no more pious than the person choosing to take responsibility for their own safety, and I would argue you’re probably even less pious than them, because while they’re trying to defend themselves and their neighbour, you’re delegating violence onto someone else while hiding behind a false shield of morality, thus proving yourself to be fake and a coward. If you were consistent with your logic, if someone were to invade your home, what you should do, as a good christian, is allow them to do anything they want and actively try your best not to let anyone intervene to defend you and your loved ones, as anything other than that would be against “turning the other cheek”.
Lastly, what is up with your request of finding a New Testament verse in favor of self defence? Is the Old Testament not also the word of God? Either way a couple of verses that have been interpreted in favour of self defence are Exodus 22:2-3 and Luke 22:36

    • @juanmejiagomez5514
      @juanmejiagomez5514 Год назад

@Don't Hate Me - I'm Just A Messenger I’m glad I was able to make you consider opposing arguments. Also, regarding arrogant christians that carry guns, I think weapons in general have this weird characteristic that makes people feel powerful, and to someone who is weak in spirit such a feeling of a surge of power can become intoxicating to the point of making them forget the reason why they got a gun in the first place: to protect, not to kill. In general, when you have a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail, so a responsible gun owner should strive to regularly check their own internal processes, thoughts, emotions and impulses to make sure that every action they take is inspired by the principles of peacekeeping, de-escalation and defence, because lethal force, if used, should always be a last resort.
This is kinda unrelated to the self defence topic, but if you haven’t had the chance already I suggest you read “The Betrothed”, a fictional novel by Alessandro Manzoni. It deals with many themes, one of which is the concept of Divine Providence and how God intervenes in the lives of people depending on their character, actions and faith. From what you wrote I’m guessing you’re American, so there may be a culture shock factor, and probably the novel comes from a different theological framework given that Italy is mostly catholic, but I think it will be worth it because it’s a very thought provoking piece of literature

Excellent video from several perspectives. I'm 74 and in my 43rd year of full time preaching in a Bible believing church. My background: non-denominational, independent churches ; graduated Bible college with Old and New Testament degrees. Personal background: Brother shot to death in Dallas in drive-by shooting while at a birthday party (our teen years)... literally killed saving another person's life. Years later, un-related event, sister-in-law was kidnapped off the street, raped by 3 men, then shot to death. Another un-related event, my grandfather was shot at by intruders and very narrowly missed (rural area in NE Texas); was not injured, but returned fire with a 1911 .45 (never knew if any of several intruders was injured (was after dark - car fled rapidly). Another unrelated event, my father was threatened on his own property by intruders (another place in NE Texas) and when one of the intruders produced a gun, my father shot and killed him. (Dad had been a policeman in a small town nearby.) SO... 4 incidents in my family (and we were not criminals / in fact were engineers and pilots) with upper middle class incomes in nice parts of town). Two were unarmed and died. Two were armed and returned fire, were uninjured. Conclusion: I have been legally armed most of my life (Concealed Carry license for decades.) I am armed when I preach and teach. So are several of our church members. The police (we live in Colorado) have strongly advised us to have armed defenders during class / sermon / fellowship times. Colorado has had several church shootings. One police officer told me they have many church threats that never make the news. Thanks for your EXCELLENT and moving video. I agree completely - the Bible allows for self-defense and defense of others. Stay strong, keep the faith. - GeezerWheels in Colorado (I also am a motorcycle enthusiast.)

      1 Timothy:2:11-14
Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
The older women are instructed to teach the younger women how to be godly wives.
      Titus:2:3-5
The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.
      2 Timothy:2:15
Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

So glad I stumbled across your channel looking for a refresher on how to clean my S&W MP Shield. Watched that one (thank you!) , then this one was suggested. What a great discussion! I am a Christian as well, and have no qualms about legally carrying a firearm. We shouldn’t hesitate to defend those who cannot defend themselves. Many within my family and my church family & friends feel the same. I know it’s a movie (The Patriot), but I’ll never forget one of Reverend Oliver’s lines: “A shepherd must tend to his flock, and at times, fight off the wolves.”. Thank you for posting this!

I completly agree with you, and have faced the same questions myself. I have been a christian since 2000, and have faced many of my brothers and sisters that questioned my carrying a weapon to defend myself. I quoted many of the same scriptures that you have in this video, andd gained support from my pastor who also owns a firearm gor the protection of his life and the lives of his family members. God knows my heart, and if I am ever placed in a situation where I need to use my weapon in a self defense situation, then he will know my heart and will judge me accordingly. You have my complete support, and wish you ongoing safety, good health and my blessings!

Very nice video and apologetics. You've done a great job of using logic, common sense and Biblical references while staying non-confrontational.

This is my first time coming across your channel. As a Christian for over 20 years. I agree with what you said and I like how you backed it up with the scriptures. I have a gun, but don't carry yet. Our church has people in security that are in plain cloths that carry. They also practice on a regular basis. You did a fantastic job explaining your position. I just hit the like and subscribe. May God continue to bless you and your family.

I'm a Christian who also carries as well as my wife. I appreciate you addressing this issue and especially in the way that you did. I like your fire extinguisher analogy and I'd add the analogy of a Christian having locks on their doors and windows. Great job. Keep the faith.

Thank you Stav! I believe I came across your video by divine purpose. I will be a new firearm owner as of tomorrow, bc that is when I pick it up. For 6 months I contemplated whether I needed a firearm. I am a born again Christian, woman in my mid 60’s and I am single. I struggled with the fact if I should even own a gun. I prayed first and asked God for wisdom and direction. I even asked my close Christian friends. I received confirmation from ALL of them that this was good decision given I live alone. My church has many people that are licensed to carry for protection and go through monthly training to protect the congregants. Given we live in a society of uncertainty, where people choose not get involved to save a life and would rather take videos of assaults instead of defending the helpless and innocent, I refuse to be a bystander. I believe attacks in churches are on the rise. I am no crème puff, but I want to stand my ground, and my God given right to defend myself as a fully trained, proficient, responsible gun owner. BTW, when you quoted Psalm 144:1…that was the verse that God gave me to confirm my decision, including verse 2. God bless you sister!

Go for it and get some training by a concealed carry instructor so you will feel comfortable and safe handling it. Then goto a shooting range and learn how to shoot it. The gun isn't bad, just those who would cause you harm. I have two kids and both are in ministry. Their spouse and kids also can shoot accurately. Kids also know what respect for others means too. God bless you in this matter. You have had a difficult decision and have made the correct one.

@@allenwegener4798 Thank you Allen. I started my first training course…introduction to pistols. I have 3 more classes to go. After that I intend to go to the local range with my friends and practice often. I believe it will be an ongoing process with firearm instructors, lot of honing my skills, and learning the laws regarding CHL and all. Blessings!

PaulaAnn I love how you prayed and sought confirmation before getting your firearm, that got my attention. I was Saved in a little Gospel church (Palos Hills) in 1974 when I was in the Navy stationed in Chicago for two years. For the first time late in life I too now feel the need to carry because at 71 I'm not able to run away or fight to protect myself anymore. I named my gun "David's Sling" (in Hebrew). My other firearm is named UziEl (God's Might). When I went to Israel I collected stones from the Elah Valley (where Israel faced the Philistines), which I give to people who are struggling as a reminder that it was not the stone but David's faith in God's deliverance that saved His people from the Philistines. David was in partnership with God and yet David needed to do his part. Like you. Ps 144: 1-2. BTW I've waited two months to get fingerprinted for my carry permit tomorrow, Shalom with Blessings dear sister, (the other David)

@@davidmcilveen6085 Thank you for sharing that story David. Yes, anytime I am making a big decision on anything, I go before the Lord.
I have a Holy fear of God, and prefer to stay in His will. Funny, I also wanted to name my firearm after someone from the Bible…I might have to steal “David’s sling” from you. I like it! Or perhaps you have some other suggestions.
I loved the fact you recognized how David was in partnership with God. As Christians this is the only way to live in today’s world. We are in a spiritual battle, and it is not for the faint of heart. I have a little sign in my “War Room” that says…”Step back, I have a mustard seed and I’m not afraid to use it.” Hopefully, I can get out and test my new firearm soon (haven’t broken it in yet). In the meantime I’m watching lots of videos like Stav’s…so much to learn. Stay safe! Peace to you!

@@PaulaAnn57 PaulaAnn, when you mentioned your mustard seed sign I nearly spit coffee through my nose and the tears of mirth ran down my leg, I laughed so hard. That's a good message! Naming one's weapon goes back as far as Anglo-Saxon times. The hero of Beowulf named his dagger Sting. King Arthur's sword was Excalibur. Today, we name missiles Minuteman and Patriot. Kila David is David's Sling which works for me because I know it was by faith and not the stone or sling that took down the Giant. Scriptures are loaded with good material to name a defense weapon but anything to do with faith would be among the most powerful names I think because that's your strong tower. Please let me know if you need a translation to Hebrew. Blessings, David
