I don’t normally comment a lot on videos but I just had to say that this was one of the most informative shooting and targeting videos I have seen. Thanks for posting this. It helped me out tremendously!
I agree. I have been around guns my entire life and I learned a lot. They make a great team!
Agree and I've been shooting for years.
lol Trumptards love this contrived crap! 😂
@@claytonbrown7120 Contrived? Well, yes. Isn't that obvious? It's certainly not that they randomly happened across the shooting range with their handguns and camera in tow and spontaneously began to film a shooting video. It was purpose made to teach shooting, so yes, it is contrived. But, if anything, your comment falls more into the ironic definition of contrived than anything in this video. Smh..
ɑʟpʜɑ ɱɑсʜɪиɑ
Aw, Trumptards just don’t have the capacity nor the vocabulary to understand, I forgot. Thanks 👍🏻
I have learned a lot from all your videos, but this one especially. My husband is a master marksman, and he does okay teaching me, but he takes it for granted that I know things I don't. Then, when I ask questions they don't truly get answered, or he things I wouldn't need answers if I just did what he says. I had gained some accuracy, but our last trip to the range proved futile. I couldn't hit anything. Then, I watched this video, and today, I knew exactly what was wrong. All along, I had "focused on the front sight" like he told me to, but I didn't understand centering it between the two rear sights. Guess why? Because when I asked him why they were there if I wasn't supposed to focus on them, he didn't take me seriously and fully answer my question in a way that I understood, because he says he thought I was joking. But, armed with the information from your video today, I can proudly say I achieved nearly 100% accuracy, hitting where I was aiming.
Stav and Mac, as a new shooter, I appreciate this video so much. You guys both touch on a huge thing I've noticed as a beginner, that psychological flinch or overthinking that occurs when I'm trying to shoot at the perfect moment, instead of just accepting a general window of time to pull the trigger. Thank you both so much! Can't wait to get out and put these tips to practice 👍🏼
i SO wish this was the FIRST video I watched when i began my journey!!
This is seriously one of the best videos for tips and drills for pistol control and accuracy training. Like much better than anything else I’ve seen. You two do a very good job
True !
Yessss my thoughts exactly
Well, I just practiced at the range using every one of these tips. I have a SIG 365 SAS and could not hit the broad side of a barn with it until I watched this video, and patiently practiced what you taught me...wow thank you so much.
Way to put in the work, Rich!! So glad you saw some improvement :) Keep it up!
@@SheEquipsHerselfHi there! Great shooting little lady! I’d like to know what kinds of firearm you are shooting with today? In this video? My carry piece is a Kimber micro 9mm which I LOVE!! However, I like the beefy look of yours and thought I’d ask. Thank you!
@@HarleeGurlI believe she’s shooting a smith and Wesson mp shield chambered in 9mm. I have the newer shield plus they are very good guns.
This video made a big difference for me. I let the gun surprise me and I was surprised at how accurate I became. Awesome instruction you two
Love this video. In addition to all the reinforcement of excellent shooter attitude and demonstration of an excellent self-training technique, it also provides the perfect counterbalance to the somewhat more common theme of "Gentleman's Carry".
The blooper reel is also awesome -- she fears no human assailant, but toss a butterfly at her hair and she's done for. : -)
Thank you so much for posting this Stav! My fiancé, who unfortunately passed away this January, was a Combat Marksmanship Trainer in the Marine Corps. He was very eager to begin training me to shoot with the Glock 48 he gifted me for Christmas. We went to the range a few times last year so this was a great refresher for me. I feel a little more confident to go to the range on my own after watching this. I’m so glad I found your page. I know my Cesar would have approved of all the knowledge you both shared. Excellent content!! ❤️❤️❤️
Natalie, I’m so so sorry for your loss. I’m friends with Krysta and heard about Cesar’s passing...I wish you the comfort that only God can bring! I’m so glad you liked this video. I’m glad Cesar was able to teach you a bit of firearms training as well. I’m sure those memories will stay with you forever! The Glock 48 is a great gun...he chose well :) never stop learning and keep up the practice!!
that is so sad you lost your fiance' ....
Sorry for your loss
My heart goes out to you. I lost my wife of 37 years in mid 2022. Just a few weeks ago I began shooting with her pistol to honor her. The drills shown in the video are simply dope; i.e., very helpful.
@@southjersey10 Sorry to hear of your loss, as well.
8:40 onwards helped me understand the SURPRISE moment. No one explained it so well what this moment is about. Within a window of time NOT at an exact moment as I drift. wow, thanks!
I’ve been shooting for over 50 years and every time I watch your videos I learn something new. 26 minute video seemed like 5 minutes thank you 🙂
I love this I will try theses drills
@@dorisholmes6523 GREAT!!!! Keep doing these,please.
I bet you would not have watched the first one if it was not a Gidget...
Shooting for half a century and taking shooting advice from a Millennial girl?! Shameful.
26 minutes? What?
WONDERFUL INSTRUCTION! In over 30 years of shooting my .45, I've never received such effective advice. This is excellent instruction for handgun accuracy. THANK YOU.
Thanks so much for watching!
Stev, your “assistant coach” did about the best explanation of trigger control I’ve seen. Please keep him around to help even us guys get better and more comfortable with the mechanics of shooting and cc gun handling. I’ve also learned a lot from your other posts as well. (Thanks, You and your assistant 🙂)
It’s great that your boyfriend clarified that these are not defense or tactical drills. I think too many RUclips “instructors” fail to clarify that. In a real defensive or tactical situation you can’t “wait” while you slowly pull the trigger like the bad guy will give you all the time you need!! New shooters don’t understand the difference in fundamentals with different types of situations. Good video!
Thanks so much for commenting and watching, Augusto!
I subscribed to your channel cause as a woman who is moving from shooting occasionally to conceal carry it was really hard to find a good channel for women. Your channel covers so many things i think about as a woman and a gun owner. Thank you stav! ❤️
Totally agree .These videos have given me more good information in one place than I have gotten from a dozen different sources.Thank you for making it easy.
Ditto here - Best channel ever! Thank you Stav.
@@cindyedgerton3582 Are you familiar with Paul Harrell's youtube channel?
Yes, I love the details ladies hahaha. Be safe out there, XOXO
I found this to be an informative drill. I should do this more. Speed isn't a factor here. It's about accuracy. I don't find this gender oriented. I'm a 67 old male.
Big applause for helping women to be confident and competent with self-defense firearms! 👏👏👏👏🇺🇸
Hey Stav! Just wanted to say that I watched this video twice and went to the range after not having shot for 6 + years and I did amazing! Out of 30 shots I only got 2 out of the middle circle. I completely amazed myself. Thank you so much for this video and all your great videos for women and all gun owners.
Nice!
Retired law enforcement here (32 years). Best video/training program I’ve seen. Thanks
Best video yet. It's not an expert shooting tutorial, it's fundamentals that will create expertise. BRASS. Let it surprise you. Love y'all.
Mac’s accent is stronger in this video and I am HERE FOR IT
I'm in my 60's and never had an interest in guns or felt the need for them but now as the world is changing I know I need to change to equip myself for whatever I might encounter. Thank you for all of your help!
me too, i am 68
Exactly! I have wanted a gun for a long time, I finally saved enough to get one. Now that we have open carry here in Oklahoma, I felt it was time. Sadly, I don't have anyone here to help me, when I can, I will take some courses. Also, I am having dealing with some shoulder pain that I am sure would hinder my shooting right now. I have not even loaded my gun yet. Ammo is very hard to find, which worries me. I am excited about learning to shoot. I am 61. Gosh, that is hard for me to even think about. This video was amazing, I will be watching all of hers I can find!
Thank you so much for this video! Yesterday, I had my CCW renewal qualification. I used your one-hole technique; I let the earth move, tides roll, & rivers flow while my sights gently floated, then "let the gun surprise me". All of my shots, except one, were in the center of the small center circle! The other shot was on the line, just outside the center. I was pretty proud of myself!! Thanks to you & Mac for the great content in your videos. I've recommended your channel to lots of people since I found you.
Wow, this is the best shooting tutorial I've ever watched. I've shot over 800 rounds but the group was always around the lower-left corner (I'm right-handed). I tried everything on improving my grip but didn't work. After watched this video, I realized my mistake is exact what Mac said in the video. I was waiting for the sight at the center of the target and pulled the trigger. This is how the flinching occurred. I tried the trigger control technique taught by Mac and it worked perfectly. Now I learned "It's ok for the sight movement. Let the gun surprise you". I'm able to put the round right on the center of the target now. Thank you so much.
God Bless both of you, and thanks.
I'd forgotten about these drills. Can't wait for my next range day...!
Thank you, Stav! I've taken multiple classes and I must say that I have learned abundantly more from watching your videos. You and Mac make an amazing team creating superb material. I am beyond greatful for what has become my favorite channel ❤
I've been shooting for 30 years and even I've learned something! Thank you guys
I love "equal height, equal light" -- that's such a perfect way to describe it!
I started shooting a rifle at a very young age. Got my very own 22 long rifle on my 8th or 9th birthday, that would have been '57 or '58, you can do the math. Carried a Colt 45 while in the Navy which was in the 70's. Still, a lot of information to handle and improve my own skills.
@@dannyward6927 never stop learning... that's the key to adulthood in my opinion.
Agreed
I know this is an older video, but I found your channel recently after an unfortunate situation with a previous stalker being out of jail, and I now need to conceal carry. Bought myself a handgun after a lot of research on what works best for me. I watched this video for some help with my aim and got a fantastic grouping of 5 out of 8 on my first magazine at the range practice with my husband. Thank you for the informative video! I feel like you've really helped my confidence and I will continue to practice to get better!
This was the first time I saw the one hole drill. That makes so much sense. Thanks for sharing.
Great teachers, no arrogance and patience, thank you guys, stay blessed 👍
Thanks Ana!
Agreed!
I am just beginning my handgun journey and this makes so much sense to me. Thanks so much.
I did this drill the other day. I had the same reaction you did at 15:30 when I got the click. I was really surprised how much I was pushing. Mine was a little bit more pronounced than yours. I am so glad that I watched this video and got the dummy rounds as a training aid. I will keep working on relaxing and just letting the gun go bang. I appreciate the content.
This is the most incredibly informative video. Yesterday was my first class and range day. I did not fully understand how to line up my sights. Thank you for the detail on trigger control. I’m a right hand shooter and my target looked just like that with a little trail going low left. This video has inspired me. You have a new subscriber. I love this so much!!!
Wow, nobody ever taught me these drills. Love it. Going to try next time at the range. I always shoot lower left, now I know why. Thanks guys, you are awsome!
I'm 50 yrs old and have been shooting for years. I love these videos because I am still learning and picking up great ideas. Thanks for making the videos.
Ditto at 68
Great, Great, Great, My wife finally wants to go the range with me and the things that i learn from this i will use for the rest of my life
SO Informative!! Thank you! Love it when Mac gets involved and shares all his experience too.
Love your vids! Love the ego free realism.. you guys are kinda awesome.. lucky guy, beautiful intelligent interesting shooters are as rare as this kind of content!! Think I found some new teachers
I have talked to people who own pistols. None of them mentioned anything about this. After seeing this, I want to go out and try it. Thanks for the video!!
This a great drill and very well explained. As a 63 year old Dad/husband/grandad, I want to make sure I do the best I can when teaching family how to be safe, responsible, and accurate with firearms. Thank you for your all your advice, and please know your efforts are helping lots of folks.
As an older person who just started shooting, this video was an Awesome Eye Opener. I am going to incorporate this into my next range session.
Guys this is the best video of trigger control I've ever seen on RUclips, I've been watching videos about this subject for 3 months. Excellent video
Thanks so much!!
I'm going to practice these at the range. I anticipate the recoil every single time...... and pull left like Mack said.
Same here.
So do I.
Yes! Me too!! So irritating! This makes so much sense now. Can’t wait to try it out.

Most informative video I have seen. I'm a new shooter and I appreciate these videos and drills
I have been shooting o er 50 years. That was the best explaination and drill I have ever seen on trigger control. Great job the both of you!!!!
Thank you so much!! Glad you liked it
I totally agree with Josh Whealen. Very good video.
Thank you!
New to this channel, but not to RUclips. "So, where have you been, ijs!?" Great 'real-deal' instruction on trigger control. Excellent tips for both new AND EXPERIENCED shooters. What a breath of fresh air to see someone teaching it right on RUclips, bravo!
Thanks so much Thomas!! Hope you stick around! :)
4:57 , I'm glad that was left in. Hilarious and cute. I love organic reactions. Good stuff in all!
This video was very helpful. I just took one of Mac's classes and he started with the one-hole drill. Knowing what to expect made the task a bit easier. It was a great class. Take care.
Wow!!!! Wish I could shoot that well. This is a beautiful video. Literally. Lol
Excellent explanations! I was a firearms instructor for years and I love Stav’s videos! You’re a good teacher Mac.
I watch this video a lot. It helps me tremendously, thank you Stav and Mac.
THANK YOU FOR THIS! I've struggled with trigger control from the beginning--as Mac said, shooting low left instead of dead center. Now shooting with Stav's Shield, which I love--so much easier than the 11-pound trigger on my S&W revolver!--but still struggling to be light on the trigger. All these videos help; you're doing a great service, Stav!!
This is the first vid I have ever seen on sight picture. When I drew a version of the "equal height, equal light" diagram for my then-21-year-old daughter, she exclaimed "So it's a SKILL then!" and proceeded to outshoot me (not that difficult) in her first-ever encounter with a handgun. Surely this is Firearms 101!
Gotta agree with the comments below. You and Mac provide some of the best shooting videos I've seen. I've learned things already, and I've just seen a few so far. I'm getting things from you guys that I haven't found in classes or on a range yet, and I am feeling more prepared than ever. THANK YOU!
Thank you so much for watching!! I'm so glad you're enjoying what you've seen on my channel so far :)
Bravo Stavroula Good job, para poli orea!!!!
Love how it was explained that even when the gun is floating a little bit a lot of the times the trigger is pulled when the front sign moves on the target. But then you don’t get a smooth trigger pull and you miss low left( right handed shooter.) I find that happens a lot for myself. This was excellent advice and a great video. I look forward to incorporating these drills the next time I go to the range.
I have been shooting for a long time but I always learn something new every time I watch your videos thanks and keep them coming
Just took a cc class last week. The instructor was explaining the equal high equal light but didn't have your catchy phrase. I told him about it and he said he was going to use it from now on since it is so simple and self explanatory. 😉
Thanks for the training drill. I am using this info to help get more accurate and it is working great. I will continue to practice and of course watch you videos.
“Drift over the target” That’s exactly what I’ve been doing wrong! I shoot anywhere from a 246 to a 205 on the federal course and had no idea why the inconsistency.. somehow my instructors never caught it.. Now I’m excited for my next re-qual
I had some training in the military with rifles and earned the sharpshooter medal. that was 35 yrs ago. I just purchased a 45 acp pistol and I am getting used to it. ( I have not fired a firearm in 20 yrs.) this video is helping me get used to firing a pistol. thank you.
In the 1st 2 minutes - I learned more about how to use sights than all the videos I've seen on the subject (a few!). Thank you! Great drills too.
Totally agree. Something I’ve struggled with, “where do I put the dot”. Thank you.
I ran across your video on things NOT to do in a firearms shop / store, and it was very good, then I found this one. After 3 years of watching firearms videos here on RUclips, this one was the most enjoyable and informative. It kind of had a relaxing feel to it and helped me understand a lot more about trigger control and a new way to try and improve my accuracy. I'm 62 and only been into firearms for about 2 1/2 years. I don't think I'll ever be a Clint Eastwood, John Wayne or a Charles Bronson type Hollywood movie marksman. But trying to get to that level of shooting, learning from you two, will make it all the more fun to try. Thank you both and keep up the great teaching videos.
After this video you have just won yourself a new subscriber. I love these mini drills.! I can't wait to go to the range practice and advocate. Thank you for the both of you. The delivery was sensational
Both of you guys are awesome; love it! Thank you! The butterfly cracked me up 🤣😂
excellent instruction - especially the dummy round exercise - I've had my own guns for 66 years but have not seen that one - dang it, I guess I don't know everything like I thought I did
There's always more to learn I guess, Ken!
Love this. As an archery coach I always try and explain conscious and subconscious actions. Your conscious actions should be all and fully on the target, full focus, fiscally and mentally. Your eyes can only focus on one distance at a time, so either your target or your sights will be in focus, it should be your target. When squeezing the trigger you should maintain full focus on the front target. The shot should not scare you as your focus should be on the target. When the shot goes off your subconscious should bring your firearm in line with the target. If you have doubts, think of how you catch a ball. You focus on the ball, fiscally and consciously and not on your hand. Your subconscious will then do all the calculations and place your hands in the right spot and close them in time? Think about that and believe that your subconscious brain activity is much more advanced than your conscious thoughts. You should never anticipate the trigger release, if you do then your conscious focus was not on the target. Seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling and tasting is conscious, keep all of that on the target. Muscle movement is subconscious, trigger squeeze, let your subconscious do its work and you do your conscious work.
You can use this for all things in life, driving, surfing, cycling, ball sports and work.
When you achieve full conscious focus on the target and you allow your subconscious to do its part, you will experience that Zen calm and clear feeling. I think it's because you don't consciously fight with your subconscious.
In archery I always say you must become the eyes of the arrow and it will fly where you consciously focus. It's very difficult to clear your thoughts and apply full conscious focus on the target only, but the eyes of the projectile works for me.
Thank you, love the channel
Great trigger control advice. I was dry firing my shield with a laser cartridge while watching this and I’m pretty accurate when I know it’s not going to make noise. Now I get why it all goes awry at the range. I think this is going to really help. Will keep practicing dry but can’t wait to try with live ammo. Thanks much for posting this. New subscriber.
Equal height, Equal light. Love it.
We are Loving all the info offered, different point of view. ..etc. .
Also, do you suggest against or for Lazer sights?
@@Dragon1165 they are okay for beginners to see where your point of impact is but after getting good training remove it because it gives away your location , in case you need to use it in a self-defense situation . Plus you wouldn't want to solely rely on it , batteries to die and and when they do you'll need to fall back to your sight fundamentals .
@@joseinfante7540 she practices with both, it stays off most times.
@@Dragon1165 .. Laser sights are best used in low light situation for quick point shooting ,, hip shot or one hand shot from concealment or ground position,, in a defense shooting at distance (to give away location) is probably not a legal defense fight...
I've been shooting for over 50 years, still learning. Great job, both y'all
Excellent and valuable information. Ball and dummy is a great training drill. I get the kid to pre-load my mags so I can start out with it as a warm up every time I head to the range. Taking him to get is carry permit in about 10 days, can't wait!
I started watching your channel two years ago- just recently went target shooting w a friend, borrowing her gun ..I used three specific points you have repeated..and I did incredible first time! Thank you!
You and your husband are one heck of a team. Thanks for this!
Great video! Instructions are clear concise not rushed not and drawn out. Glad I stumbled on this video.
Best video I have seen yet!
This is the best video I have seen as far as learning how to shoot accurately because no matter how many times I've asked people that I've gone to the range with or try to search videos I seem to never get the exact answer and then when I go to shoot it doesn't hit my target thank you so much for this video
Really hooked on your channel! One of the BEST and excellent to see a great female student!! GIRL POWER!
Thank you so so much!
I love all of your videos and recommend them to anyone that shows interest in firearms. This video is incorrect where you describe sight alignment with the white dots. Just remember, not all sights have dots. I prefer the Warren Tactical sights with no dots. Just a note; You cannot see the target if you cover it up with the sight. Proper sight alignment is split with the top surface of the front sight. (Love your videos.)
I just got a Ruger EC9s 9mm, and I shot it for the first time at the range this past weekend. I'm watching this video after my attempts, and now I want to go back! I loved watching this and I can't wait to apply the advice. Thank you for making something instructive for beginner shooters!
So glad you liked it Bethany!
I will definitely do this practice thanks gus
This was a great video and I will be practicing this when I go to the range later this week. This explains why I consistently shot low and to the right (lefty). Just started shooting again after ~50 years and am enjoying it quite a bit. Trying to get my wife interested since we now live in Idaho. Also just subscribed. Keep up the great work.
You two are Absolutely Fantastic.
You two make a great team. Both of you are obviously accomplished shooters and you add up to make an informative and entertaining training session. I learned things that will certainly help me in gaining expertise. Thanks for your help. God bless, Miles
Thank you for saying, “Let the gun surprise you.” Oh, and explaining that the floating thing is normal and okay!
Excellent video. I'm anxious to go back to the range.
Part of my training is these drills from you. New shooter and my grip and accuracy are much better. Thank you very much.
So glad the videos are helping, Reginald! Keep up the training! :)
😳🤯😧 I just purchased my first firearm 3 days ago and have been to the range 3 times so I have a long way to go and this just gave me chill bumps. Girl, you are a beast and I’m loving your videos, I’m learning soo much from both of you. Thank you!!!!
I will be trying these at the range next week. The ranges in our area require a holster class before we can draw unsupervised. But that’s coming up, lol. Yup, my target looked like his left lung and liver were sprayed with buckshot. Just bought some dummy rounds today to practice the mag change and dry fire exercises.
A holster class? Never heard of such a thing. Our club we are the range safety officers, we police ourselves
Paul Hokinson I’m sure it’s an insurance thing in our state as I haven’t found a range without it since we moved back. I keep a training log but don’t think it is transferable to another range here. It isn’t long and the one without it said just hire one of the trainers for an hour or so. Without the check off you are only allowed to be in low ready or lay the firearm down on the bench. I’m going to practice the drill at home and then get the check off.
My friend and I watched this video and went to the range last weekend to try these drills. We saw immediate improvement, especially with the concept of allowing the gun to surprise you. We both had more accurate results, good stuff!!
I am LOVING the videos you're putting out! they're so helpful and easy to understand. I'm a noob at all of this. I actually have a concealed carry class in a couple days. I'm so excited! i feel like i know a little more terminology thanks to you. thank you! you two are a great team!
Thanks Tracey so glad you like my videos! Good luck in your class! :)
As someone who’s new to all of this and learning, I’ve watched hundreds of hours of videos and this is one of the best described. The dude elaborated perfectly and used analogies that made it make sense… thanks guys! 👍
This video has helped so much in my practice shooting! I go to the indoor range by myself all the time and the instructors there are so helpful and offer the same advice you and Mac do!! Very reassuring 😁
YT algorithm sent me here...glad it did. I can use the drills to improve my accuracy. I am the low and to the left type shooter. Thumbs up and sub. Thanks.
Personally, I teach people not to obscure the target with there sights, to "lollipop" it. At the worst, you get a consistent group 1/4" below where you intended, while still being able to see what you aim at. Bullets dont travel in a straight line anyway. That's just me. I appreciate your content. Because my wife feels like she relates to you as a shooter better than she relates to me. Thanks for that :)
If you are shooting dominant eye only that is a good practice.
If you are shooting both eyes then it isn't much of a problem.
You still have the cross point blind spot from your hands and firearm being in the way ( can't see past them ), so anything that happens on the opposite side will not have the depth perception you need to evade.
That's true a six hold is better for accuracy
@JKay11235 rofl.
@JKay11235 I guess you might find that more preoccupying to focus on keeping your sight picture in the middle of the target instead of underneath. Besides that still obscures the target, assuming of course the target is small at a given range. Take for example how an M16 is zeroed. The bullet travels on an arc that crosses a level plane at 25 and 300 yards ascending and descending respectively and its maximum height above that plane is only a few inches, which means if you aim just below the target, you can make shots with the same sight picture from 25 all the way to 300 yards. And this is something very difficult when you obscure the target with your sight
@@dontneedtoknow5836 not sure why that's funny
I'm going to show this video to my daughters, they both flinch when shooting, and so do I. This will be a tool to help us get TRIGGER CONTROL!👍
I hope it helps!! :)
Girl thank you so much. New gun owner and I learned soooo much from this one video. I really appreciate it. Subbed!
Heather I’m so glad you liked it!! Thanks so much for subscribing :)
Thanks for the instructions, can't wait to try them. Very well presented and understandable.
I've done these drills before but you just reminded an old dog to get back to basics. Good video as always: thank you Ms. Stav.
Hi Stav: I’ve been following your channel for quite some time, but somehow I’ve missed this video. I watched your more recent one where you did the same drill with the 380s(I have the Sig 365xl 9mm). I’ve been shooting for 3 years and I still have a flinching problem, so I will try this next time at the range. Thanks for all that you & Mac do and thanks for the email reminders! I feel like we’re friends!
