There's just something so special about Blackmagic's image for me. No matter how much footage of other cameras I see, nothing ever beats it in my eyes. I don't know exactly what it is, it just looks so natural, almost "filmic". It doesn't have that overly-digital appearance to it. That may sound crazy to some people, but that's the best I can explain it. LMAO
Really? I was just about to say how BM always looks like dead eyes to me
I agree. BM always look digital to me. Jaggy, pixelated edges. A general thin quality to the image, esp people.
@@vassilok Yeah, it makes everyone look so weird... but I guess that's to be expected... BM has been plagued by bad sensors for years. The rolling shutter is so bad, it's honestly insane. You move the camera, everything looks like jello.
100 percent agree closest to "film" I've ever seen in 15 years period
U guys probably think sony looks filmatic too ahah u guys are nuts everyone agrees bm has the best image check your eyes
This was a magnificent camera review. The blind camera test was ingenious. You have captivated me with your style and presentation. Well done. I’m looking forward to more camera reviews from you in the future.
The most important thing is not what you see and compare the images with lut, but latitude, noise levels in different iso values, image processing, etc.
Great to see this. Especially as I use a few Ursas and Lumix S5s
I did love the ursa when I had it. Can’t wait to see what blackmagic have in store next week. Could be a new ursa?
@@thatcameranerd definitely agree
i dont use any of these cameras, but watching the video i preferred the lumix in day time, till it got low light and i preferred the Cinema 6k first due to the dynamic range and overall pop, and komodo second and lumix third. overall i would say i was impressed by the lumix. as a canon r6ii user. good video, keep it up.
Thank you 😀how do you find the R6II to use. My last canon was the 5D mark 3 I think
I could see which image was the Lumix, and I prefered that and the Blackmagic images over The Komodo, surprisingly enough. I could see The Blackmagic was giving more latitude which would be a joy for a colour grader, but that said, I think if I were to go for the S5ii X and then find myself in a position where I wanted to shoot BRAW with it, then either rent, borrow, or purchase a Ninja at that point, and at other times enjoy the quality and convenience of what that camera can do internally. At least, that's how I'm leaning at the moment. Who knows if NAB will throw some googlies against that mindset. There is the advantage of Blackmagic cameras coming with the studio version of Davinci.
NAB did throw some goodies our way. What do you think of the new blackmagic cameras that were announced
The cinema 6k is a very useful camera! I miss the NDs and Pro Res, but there's a lot to like and a lot of flexibility! And image wise it actually matches with the 6k and 6k pro perfectly (it's just a wider field of view). Good video!
They'll release one with NDS 100% at some point !
Sign me up
I'm a DP based in Rio de Janeiro and the internal NDs are never enough for our tropical natural light exterior shots. So I grabbed a Nisi true color VND and it's amazing
@thiagolimadop thanks for the recommendation I’ll check out the Nisi
@@thiagolimadop nisi has some great stuff love the brand
For all the fanboys, this video deserves recognition, each camera shines according to the scenario, choose the one that suits you, this is one of the best videos.
🙏 thank you
Friend, I also really miss the prores in the latest blackmagic camera. I think they could go further and include h265 in their cameras. They would open their market a lot.
I would totally be on board for this and that would give you the option to lower the resolution without cropping the sensor
Still love my komodo. Simple and ultra flexible files. ACES in resolve for grading 😊
I really like that they give you a false colour that you can customise. Maybe not everyone would find that useful but I love using false colour and to be able to program each stop to a colour is a nice option
Panasonic colours are simply not praised enough. Beautiful 😍
The're great I'm a big fan
Better comparison would have been with either a s5iix or buy the firmware that enables raw on the s5ii. I’d be interested!
What picture profile are you using on the S5 II? Thanks!
I'm using the Panasonic S5 Vlog to V709. If anyone needs a link I'm happy to put one up
@@thatcameranerd yes please!

You’re amazing! Great vídeos! Komodo ❤️
Thank you 😁
I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't own any of these brands. I currently own a Fuji. But from your sample footage, I'm liking the colors coming out of the 6k. However, if I were to consider purchasing one of these, I'd most likely go with the S5 II for being a great hybrid camera. Especially given its ability to save LUTs in camera which can be used for both photo and video. Great informative and entertaining content, mate!
Thank you ☺️
I have the s5iix and having the option to shoot pro res and braw is a blessing.
Do you tend to shoot more, braw or pro res and how do you find the the pro res. I only have the s5II so no pro res for me
@@thatcameranerd Pro res because the X does it internal when I run my ssd drive and plus I have the ninja V. I used my friends Blackmagic video assist and that image has some great roll offs.
I didnt get the cams right at all. I really thought a would be the red cause i liked it the most. But theres really just a minor difference for me.
what do you think about s5 raw compare to bm6K raw?
I like ProRes raw if your using the ninja with the S5II. For me it comes down to your edit platform. If you use premiere you only get a couple of raw settings with ProRes raw compared to Final Cut where you get a lot more settings with the raw clips and also it’s not compatible with davinci. If you use the video assist for blackmagic then you will get a lot more settings in premiere and in davinci. I think for my workflow blackmagic raw is a better option just because I grade in davinci but I have used ProRes raw and the footage looks great
@@thatcameranerd i have ninja and video assist i shoot braw with the s5IIx just uploaded video with footage - interesting to see comparison with the new bmcc6K FF - if the s5 can get same image quality thats amazing
Can you make a video red komodo vs Panasonic S1H ?
If I can get my hands on the S1H I will absolutely make a video
I like 6k look
The Black Magic image is a thing. It's real. I shoot Canon but I've always liked BM.

A: her jumper looks blue/saturated and the chair has a magenta shift
B: Her jumper looks more blue/green and her hair and skin look more natural
C: Her jumper looks less blue than A and more blue than B - also more saturated with more magenta in the skin -
only you will know which is more faithful to the scene
The lumix does external raw
It does which if you include the recorder and the paid raw unlock would put it closer to the Blackmagic in terms of cost. Its an incredibly flexible camera
BlackMAGIC!Fantastic at that price range, next perhaps only gemini with its 16 stops dr
Agreed, Plus they include davinci resolve studio with every camera which is great
Damn, the S5ii looked the best. I thought that was the Komodo.
This is crazy, I liked the Komodo, then the S5ii. The Cinema 6k didn’t do it for me.
Yea I think I differe depending on the shot
Everybodies wife look so unhappy doing these videos, even mine...
You can probably see the decline in her enthusiasm as the videos go on 😂
You spelt a word wrong in your thumbnail
I preferred the S5 image quality for most of the shots, really amazing given its price
Yea I don’t really think there is much in that price range that gives you as much as the S5 does and with the option to do raw with an external recorder it’s a great camera
@@thatcameranerd Maybe unpopular opinion, but the 6K FF is only $400 or so more than the S5 with a lot more overall bang for buck. Seems like if you're in at $2100 or so already.. whats another $500 give or take to the 6K FF. The Komodo of course is 4x that price given the stuff you need to add on to it like mags, battery, etc that is stupid expensive
I liked the s5 the least--it looks like a video, not a film. Probably that is your preference.
@@wyat5011 Film and video are one and the same, you probably meant to say it looked digital, this is decidedly not the case as the s5 shots were the most cinematic for me.
@@b3owu1flumix frequently goes on sale for 1.5K
shooting 10 bit log file is more than enough data for almost all user cases. you have a lot of latitude thanks to the low contrast picture, you can get your final colors in post. who sets the camera in 5600k when shooting tungsten internal? I think this trend for a need of raw recording is kind of absurd. for this little bit of extra sharpness and color flexibility you are getting crazy big files. no problem If you are shooting a narrative with all the support needed. but in most cases its just flexing with the camera toys. did someone miss raw when shooting with an Alexa on logC? that said, picture out of the Lumix S5 looks great!
Agreed the FX6 dosen't shoot RAW and you still get an amazing image out of it and its probably one of the better selling cameras. I know in the UK a lot of people are looking for FX6 operators
I have both Komodo and s5ii , and nothing compares to Komodo’s image quality which is my priority , but s5ii “ FOR ME “ very easy and fast camera for easy projects , traveling , minimal rig , stabilization is very good point and image quality is rly good as well totally love it !! but still as a owner of both cameras komodo is king for me
I also love how well they match each other
Amazing we love watching comparisons... competition of the eye... my wife won thou... looks like i prefer blackmagic 6K
😂 I’m not sure I’d have guessed right to be fair. I definitely prefer the pocket in some of the shots for sure.
@@thatcameranerd thanks Bud we dig your vibe guys been following some time we should do a collab we are based in Somerset
@@thatcameranerd just and observation, the BM CC 6K FF is not called 'pocket' anymore
I'm not gonna lie, the blacks/shadows in that lumix look awful.
Let's try the new 6k box camera ycsis
I can't wait to test it out I love the design
It's gotten the same sensor as the 6K FF or not? So same image (in this comparison)
If you're using different lenses the test isn't as reliable as it could
For the price & internal RAW Blackmagic all the way
Now it comes in box. why release a camera when they already built box version. people who bought will so pissed about it
I suppose its a cheaper option if you don't need/want a box version
@@thatcameranerd Having know blackmagic reputation of releasing new product i purchased another year or two we won't see this product line.price difference is not so much for l mount. Regardless of this all camera manufacturers does this consumerism. if a company have same camera release lined up in different style they should release at the same time and give customer a choice not release one style and Gaslight them and release different style in next two months. Sony does the same with thing fx line. My return window is already over so I can't return. I am seriously considering taking this issue legally and set an example for camera manufacturers they can't get away with everything
if you don't grade your footage then you are not following a higher end workflow. Above extremely low budget, what comes out the camera is just a starting point.
I have to say that I’m very impressed by the Lumix’s image quality! I own the Blackmagic 6K FF so I guessed it right away, but wow, the colors the RED Komodo produces are unique ❤. Thanks for this video, man. Cheers
Thanks for watching
was the komodo in focus? it looks surprisingly terrible wow (exaggerating). i am genuinely shocked.
Чувак ты прав
The red komdod
All these comparisons don't know how to grade Komodo footage. It's crazy. Why do a Komodo when you bring down the look to match inferior cameras. Push the levels correctly and up the saturation and you'll see what these 3 cameras will do. Meaning grade the Komodo to look the best it can and see if the other can keep up. Just dropping a LUT is not the way to grade footage, any footage. Thanks for the review.
This test was done with just the base LUT's if you start grading the footage then your results will veary depending on the skill level of the person grading. My aim was to show what a person would get out of the camera if you put them side by side.
@@thatcameranerd No you cannot just throw a base LUT on different footage from different cameras?
Why does the blacks look like that on the s5?
Komodo all the way, only issue I have with it is the sensor size. :( But with speedbooster it may be the best solution.
I love mine with and without speed booster. Basically doubling my stock of lenses. I found learning how to expose properly (stoplight 🚦) grading with ACES!!! and using quality lenses.r3d files are just gorgeous files to work with.
