There's just something so special about Blackmagic's image for me. No matter how much footage of other cameras I see, nothing ever beats it in my eyes. I don't know exactly what it is, it just looks so natural, almost "filmic". It doesn't have that overly-digital appearance to it. That may sound crazy to some people, but that's the best I can explain it. LMAO
@@vassilok Yeah, it makes everyone look so weird... but I guess that's to be expected... BM has been plagued by bad sensors for years. The rolling shutter is so bad, it's honestly insane. You move the camera, everything looks like jello.
The most important thing is not what you see and compare the images with lut, but latitude, noise levels in different iso values, image processing, etc.
Friend, I also really miss the prores in the latest blackmagic camera. I think they could go further and include h265 in their cameras. They would open their market a lot.
@@thatcameranerd Just one further comment and that is when you look at the price point for the Lumix, it's mind-blowing compared to the other two cameras. I owned the original S5 and I used a Sigma 35 mm lens on it non-stop and the results I got on that set up were incredible.
i dont use any of these cameras, but watching the video i preferred the lumix in day time, till it got low light and i preferred the Cinema 6k first due to the dynamic range and overall pop, and komodo second and lumix third. overall i would say i was impressed by the lumix. as a canon r6ii user. good video, keep it up.
The cinema 6k is a very useful camera! I miss the NDs and Pro Res, but there's a lot to like and a lot of flexibility! And image wise it actually matches with the 6k and 6k pro perfectly (it's just a wider field of view). Good video!
I'm a DP based in Rio de Janeiro and the internal NDs are never enough for our tropical natural light exterior shots. So I grabbed a Nisi true color VND and it's amazing
I could see which image was the Lumix, and I prefered that and the Blackmagic images over The Komodo, surprisingly enough. I could see The Blackmagic was giving more latitude which would be a joy for a colour grader, but that said, I think if I were to go for the S5ii X and then find myself in a position where I wanted to shoot BRAW with it, then either rent, borrow, or purchase a Ninja at that point, and at other times enjoy the quality and convenience of what that camera can do internally. At least, that's how I'm leaning at the moment. Who knows if NAB will throw some googlies against that mindset. There is the advantage of Blackmagic cameras coming with the studio version of Davinci.
Ninja does not shoot BRAW, if I am reading you correctly. To capture BRAW on a compatible Panasonic camera you will need Blackmagic’s recorder/monitor.
For all the fanboys, this video deserves recognition, each camera shines according to the scenario, choose the one that suits you, this is one of the best videos.
At 13:43, you can really see how much more defined her strands of hair are and the color separation with the Red and Black Magic. The S5ii has her hair with hardly no detail or color separation. The S5ii is great but better with an external recorder to keep up with these other 2. Over saturating the colors is a nice trick, but the S5ii falls behind.
I really like that they give you a false colour that you can customise. Maybe not everyone would find that useful but I love using false colour and to be able to program each stop to a colour is a nice option

Thank you for the video. The BM 6k and Komodo traded blows as the best look. Sadly, the Panasonic suffered from over saturation and uneven tone in the dynamic range. This does not mean that the Panasonic is bad, there are ways to fix those problems. Also, if one is considering the S5II and you shoot a lot of video, buy the S5IIX. It can shoot RAW externally, as well as ALL-I and ProRes (no RAW). It would have been nice to see BRAW from the Panasonic in this test. I think the Panasonic results would have been better. The implementation of BRAW in the S5IIX is excellent.
I don't have a dog in this fight. I don't own any of these brands. I currently own a Fuji. But from your sample footage, I'm liking the colors coming out of the 6k. However, if I were to consider purchasing one of these, I'd most likely go with the S5 II for being a great hybrid camera. Especially given its ability to save LUTs in camera which can be used for both photo and video. Great informative and entertaining content, mate!
I like ProRes raw if your using the ninja with the S5II. For me it comes down to your edit platform. If you use premiere you only get a couple of raw settings with ProRes raw compared to Final Cut where you get a lot more settings with the raw clips and also it’s not compatible with davinci. If you use the video assist for blackmagic then you will get a lot more settings in premiere and in davinci. I think for my workflow blackmagic raw is a better option just because I grade in davinci but I have used ProRes raw and the footage looks great

It does which if you include the recorder and the paid raw unlock would put it closer to the Blackmagic in terms of cost. Its an incredibly flexible camera
Red have its own realm, personally I prefer Blackmagic for look. Disappointed by GH5s as every time shot 10bit 4:2:2, it will stop recording after few continuous shots.
Yea I don’t really think there is much in that price range that gives you as much as the S5 does and with the option to do raw with an external recorder it’s a great camera

Seems like if you're in at $2100 or so already.. whats another $500 give or take to the 6K FF. shooting 10 bit log file is more than enough data for almost all user cases. you have a lot of latitude thanks to the low contrast picture, you can get your final colors in post. who sets the camera in 5600k when shooting tungsten internal? I think this trend for a need of raw recording is kind of absurd. for this little bit of extra sharpness and color flexibility you are getting crazy big files. no problem If you are shooting a narrative with all the support needed. but in most cases its just flexing with the camera toys. did someone miss raw when shooting with an Alexa on logC? that said, picture out of the Lumix S5 looks great!
Agreed the FX6 dosen't shoot RAW and you still get an amazing image out of it and its probably one of the better selling cameras. I know in the UK a lot of people are looking for FX6 operators
I have both Komodo and s5ii , and nothing compares to Komodo’s image quality which is my priority , but s5ii “ FOR ME “ very easy and fast camera for easy projects , traveling , minimal rig , stabilization is very good point and image quality is rly good as well totally love it !! but still as a owner of both cameras komodo is king for me
if you don't grade your footage then you are not following a higher end workflow. Above extremely low budget, what comes out the camera is just a starting point.

@@thatcameranerd Having know blackmagic reputation of releasing new product i purchased another year or two we won't see this product line.price difference is not so much for l mount. Regardless of this all camera manufacturers does this consumerism. if a company have same camera release lined up in different style they should release at the same time and give customer a choice not release one style and Gaslight them and release different style in next two months. Sony does the same with thing fx line. My return window is already over so I can't return. I am seriously considering taking this issue legally and set an example for camera manufacturers they can't get away with everything
Lumix Can do RAW if you go for th s5IIX, i have the S5 and RAW is amazing, just don't make my mistake and go for the Blackmagic over the Atomos! I will NEVER buy another Atomos "DLC" product!!!
I started with the Ninja but the lack of davinci support was a bit of a deal breaker for me so I switched to blackmagic. But you’re right about the DLC it’s frustrating
All these comparisons don't know how to grade Komodo footage. It's crazy. Why do a Komodo when you bring down the look to match inferior cameras. Push the levels correctly and up the saturation and you'll see what these 3 cameras will do. Meaning grade the Komodo to look the best it can and see if the other can keep up. Just dropping a LUT is not the way to grade footage, any footage. Thanks for the review.
This test was done with just the base LUT's if you start grading the footage then your results will veary depending on the skill level of the person grading. My aim was to show what a person would get out of the camera if you put them side by side.
I love mine with and without speed booster. Basically doubling my stock of lenses. I found learning how to expose properly (stoplight 🚦) grading with ACES!!! and using quality lenses.r3d files are just gorgeous files to work with.

Yea the camera is regularly on sale too. Combined with the ninja or video assist it becomes a real powerhouse. I love it

I didnt get the cams right at all. I really thought a would be the red cause i liked it the most. But theres really just a minor difference for me.

The Black Magic image is a thing. It's real. I shoot Canon but I've always liked BM.

I liked the s5 the least--it looks like a video, not a film. Probably that is your preference.
