She's said fairly recently that she was happy to have her moment in the pop-star spotlight but she doesn't actually enjoy writing or performing pop music. The Eastern market is definitely still much more inclined to listen to power ballad music like this than the Western Market is. I don't think the Western world "never appreciated her enough", I just think the market over here is much more pop oriented and that's not what she loves.
This performance is obviously absolutely flawless from start to finish, but one of my favourite things about it is how simply she sings the last bit. She doesn't overdo it with vocal runs because it doesn't need it, she just gets the essence of the lyrics across with so much heart and really drives it home. It is the perfect performance. She is an incomparable vocalist.

I love this rendition. It feels like she held back to pay proper tribute to Whitney. It wasn't about "hey look what I can do with my voice" (as some singers tend to do during tributes) but it seemed like she was saying "look how amazing this song is". She uses so many advanced techniques too, flawlessly. Her transitions through chest and head voice are impeccable, and she uses vibrato in almost every note, it seems so easy for her. Her vocal power and flexibility is so amazing.

Actually she sounded restrained... Jessie J is a superb singer but this performance although great was very safe. As for setting the bar - there are several mind-blowing covers of "I Have Nothing" out there most notably those from SoHyang, Charice, Jack Vidgen etc.
She deserves a Grammy! I think that she hasn't got too much credit for her music is probably due to the success of other divas like Adele and Lady Gaga. Too bad they launched their career almost at the same time.
Honestly she isn't really underrated, she's been on award shows, the Olympics, and even TheVoice in more than one country. I think her problem is the lack of good and memorable songs. Her first album propelled her, but the rest just don't seem to be of the same calibur. And that's the problem with singers in general, one or two hit songs or albums just simply aren't good enough if you can't follow up with something similar.

i really don’t understand why she isn’t asked to do more tributes like this is the closest singer in her *prime* that y’all are gonna find to the great voices of the past in this generation, i love ariana, but she has a very soft airy voice, of course it’s also very powerful but she’s a soprano, jessie is a baritone, and even xtina at one point was the closest thing to whitney but she’s lost some of her mojo, jessie is definitely one of the best and youngest singers out there rn
edit: sorry i was mixing up male and female registers at the time. rusty, lol. what i meant to translate to is i believe jesse is a mezzo or maaybe contralto. other than that i completely disagree that shes a light lyric soprano. like completely. thats falsetto. you can hear the clear difference when jesse is singing in her head voice. especially if you listen to allot of her music. a full lyric perhaps but definitely not a light. to me she’s just singing the song as it was intended to be at each specific moment.
Mia Allen Jessie’s a light-lyric soprano? A baritone is a singer with a low register... I don’t know any female singers that have that register, since it’s a singer (Male) that sings between tenor and bass.

It's because her famous songs aren't exactly anywhere near this genre.
I mean, I know Jessie J is a good singer, but the only songs that I know of hers that really "boomed" are domino and masterpiece. ... Those songs are pop songs though.

Actually she sounded restrained... Jessie J is a superb singer but this performance although great was very safe. As for setting the bar - there are several mind-blowing covers of "I Have Nothing" out there most notably those from SoHyang, Charice, Jack Vidgen etc.

She deserves a Grammy! I think that she hasn't got too much credit for her music is probably due to the success of other divas like Adele and Lady Gaga. Too bad they launched their career almost at the same time.
Honestly she isn't really underrated, she's been on award shows, the Olympics, and even TheVoice in more than one country. I think her problem is the lack of good and memorable songs. Her first album propelled her, but the rest just don't seem to be of the same calibur. And that's the problem with singers in general, one or two hit songs or albums just simply aren't good enough if you can't follow up with something similar.
Also, much of it has to do with their contract with the recording label.
