Thankyou so much Jill. Yes I like it. I absolutely love this hummus. I have been spreading it on whole-wheat toast. So yum. I made it using 1 can of the chickpeas, plus the whole can of the liquid. I cup of cashews. Tamari instead of aminos because that is what I had. And garlic powder. Tahini, lemon juice and nutritional yeast.
I bought a blender just like yours, which I believe it is the blendec 800 professional, but I had to pay $180 for shipping to Japan, I can hardly wait for it to arrive in order to enjoy your recipes my lady, please keep them coming.
IMO, if you're going to use canned chickpeas, you need to boil them further in water to soften them a little more. Stir them continuously while they are boiling in order to dislodge as many of the husks as possible--discard the husks (I know, whole foods and all--save the husks and add them to something else if you'd like). Also, process the beans while they are hot. These changes render a creamier hummus.
I usually pick the skins off by hand. Also, try making hummus with white beans like cannellini beans. They are extra creamy in comparison with no skins or extra cooking.
Alexandra Petretta considering the fat content of both Tahini and cashews, I highly doubt this is "way less" fat than conventional salad dressings. However, it is far better quality and nutrient beneficial fat.
I made this last night, using 1.5 cups of chickpeas I cooked from dry, and about half a cup of the cooking liquid. I also added 4 roasted red peppers (seeds, skin and stems removed) that we had from the garden. It's the best hummus I've ever made. Great recipe!
I've used Desi chickpeas, the small ones with the brown skin on them still, and sprout then steam them to make hummus. Really boosts the nutritional value and bioavailability! I'll have to give cashews and your other ingredients a shot next time. Thanks!
Jill I just started to watch your show and made some salad dressing and cake I’m vegetarian all my life but watching your show I make some changes (no sugar and oil Great I looking for that long time Thank you I enjoy cooking now more than before Thank you please don’t give up You are amazing Ana from Canada
If you are using canned chickpeas, just use the reserved liquid from the cans instead of oil, and only add after you add your lemon juice and other ingredients. Drizzle it in while blending until you hit the right consistency. :)
Just found your channel. love it! Easy to follow for newbies like me. So, I made your hummus and it actually came out really good. Soo proud of myself! Thank you !!
It is nice to hear that someone else has a hard time getting the right taste to their hummus. I’ve tried a lot of recipes but none match the Sabra original that I’ve loved for a long time. Staying away from the oil, so still searching. My health is more important than some dang hummus. Lol.
Thanks! I've shared this link with my FB group Super Quick Plant-Based Recipes. We LOVE anything quick and easy like this recipe! I LOVE that is has NO oil!
Hi Jill! Thank you so much for all these videos. This is so much helpful to go about the plant based diet on a daily basis. Just to let you know there are also some people tuning in from Europe :-) As you may know we have here different metric system. Would be great if you could also include European measurements in your recipes. Greeting from Germany!
Interesting. I never had a problem with salt/oil free hummus. I started with the recipe on the jar of tahini and swapped out the oil for water and I've always thought it's the best hummus, even compared to really good middle eastern restaurants, and family and friends all love it. Even before I ever went oil free I cut the oil out of it because it really dampens the fresh garlic flavor. To me hummus with oil is too bland. Here is my recipe: 2 cans chickpeas 2 medium cloves garlic (if old, cut in half and remove green stem, makes it taste fresher) 1/2 cup lemon juice 1/2 cup water scant 1/2 cup tahini (somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 cup) I have never felt the need to add salt to it, even when I first started making it and I wasn't even eating low salt. The lemon juice and garlic cover that flavor note.
This to me sounds much more authentic, although fusion flavors taste great too and I love Jill's recipes, I found cashew, Bragg's and nutritional yeast a bit of a mismatch. I haven't made it yet, so who knows, maybe I'll like it but I would love to try your recipe first. Thank you!!
@@ianrobson3713 Sorry Ian, I just got notifications for all these old comments. If you used vinegar instead of lemon juice... it would taste very different. Not necessarily bad, but different. The lemon flavor is definitely a focal point of traditional hummus. If I wanted a "vinaigrette style" chickpea dip (i.e. with vinegar) I would start with a lower quantity, maybe just a couple tablespoons and work up from there. Lemon juice is much milder than vinegar.
I saw this version some time ago. Finally made it tonight. Yes, yes, yes!!! I made the classic oil version a couple of months ago. This is so much better. It's earthy and really creamy and satisfying. Making a roasted veggie Ezekiel wrap with this hummus as a base for dinner.
Thanks for the recipe; I printed it out and headed to the blender. BUT just wanted to note that the printed recipe from your website does not have the onion powder as one of the ingredients. I found the omission after rewatching the video after making the recipe. It tasted good. Next batch will be better. :-) Thanks!
I've tried several plant based recipes for hummus but this one wins! I'll never buy it in the stores again. It's so creamy and smooth. Now to try to add other things to it to change the flavor for variety. Roasted red pepper? Hmm

Hi, I am on a whole food plant based diet that doesn' t allow any fat/oil. I wonder if this recipe can be made without cashew nuts which contain fat/oil and tahini as it is made from sesame seeds hence it contains fat and oil. Is there a substitute for tahini? Thanks for your response. Oh yes, are the cashews (if used) raw?
Question Jill. Is Tahini considered an oil free food. I am trying to remain oil free but hard to find any receipies without the use of tahini. Thank you. Laird
This has probably been asked a lot of times before, but what kind of blender is that? I love the "silencer" on it! Love my VitaMix, but my husband says I'm landing my jet again every time I use it.

Nice idea with the cashew nuts. I always add 1 tbsp cumin powder which gives it a more traditional flavor.
