I do love the conceit of a villain frustrated with how stupid his minions are so he makes them smarter. But now they're so intelligent that they realize he is the problem and they join the heroes. I love it.
The most shocking thing to come out of this reaction for me, is that Eric apparently didn't know Daisy was an actual character, and seems like he believed she was just from this movie to replace the name Peach?
To be fair, when this movie came out Peach wasn't called Peach in the US, she was simply Princess Toadstool. A lot of fans assumed that the movie character's full name was Daisy Toadstool.
@Rocket1377 which is odd. I knew when the movie came out, Peach was her name. Funny enough, from the mario super show, cause she called her self Princess P one time, and I read it was cause in Japan her name was Peach, lol

He and Leguizamo got drunk before each day of filming and continued to drink between takes. In a 2011 interview, he was asked, "What is the worst job you've done?", "What has been your biggest disappointment?", and "If you could edit your past, what would you change?" His answer to all three was Super Mario Bros. His son, Jack Hoskins, is a fan of the film and praised his performance. Dennis Hopper disparaged the production, recounting in 2008: "It was a nightmare, very honestly, that movie. Co-director Morton reflected on the film in 2016 as a "harrowing" experience. Morton felt "very uneasy" being put in the position of having to defend the new script. In addition, working with Dennis Hopper was "really, really hard. Really hard. I don't think [Hopper] had a clue what was going on". In the directors' defense, it sounds like they made it with good intentions rather than another money-grab exploiting a successful franchise. While it won't win any praise from seasoned critics, it'll remain in my childhood memories: a basic-cable flick playing in the background as I fiddled with LEGOs.
Bob Hoskins' Brooklyn accent for Mario "works" for us older millennials because the high-pitched Italian accent from Charles Martinet was still a few years away when we saw this, and Mario from the Super Mario Bros. Supershow was likewise treated with a gruff, Brooklyn accent by Lou Albano. Plus, for me at least, I think it was also the fact that Hoskins used pretty much the same accent for Eddie Valiant in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, so it was already a familiar, welcome voice to expect when seeing him onscreen. Threw me for a loop years later when I found out he was British! haha
Martinet has actually said he knew nothing about Mario when he auditioned for the part, so it’s possible that because he wasn’t aware of what Mario originally sounded like (i.e the gruff Brooklyn accent), he was able to stand out by doing something entirely different.
@@akakay0131 martinet was actually told to do a brooklyn accent when he auditioned and when talking about it in an interview he did the more traditional brooklyn accent he was thinking (sounds similar to wario's voice). So, you were wondering about the green goo on the floor when they put Koopa into the chair for the de-evolution machine. That is actually from a deleted scene (that is hereon RUclips) where one of the workers was de-evolved into primordial slime. There are other deleted scenes too, a prominent one being Iggy and Spike rapping in the club about Koopa's downfall. I would recommend checking them out. They're pretty cool/fun scenes.
Really? Calling it fungus instead of mushrooms, having lizard people instead of koopas, having king Koopa turn into a weird T-Rex, having a fungus be the father of the princess, who btw is born from an egg, the many romances of Mario, Luigi's lack of a mustache, the age gape between the brothers, the entire set of Mushroom Kingdom as a dystopian Brooklyn?? And the weirdest and most wrong thing in the movie for you was conceptually merging Peach's and Daisy's character?? What are you smoking? Hahahahaha

Daisy's actress was also Frank Castle's wife in The Punisher with Thomas Jane and John Travolta. Having seen the new movie, I was honestly shocked that with as much as people disparage this film, the new one is so similar to it. It's so similar, it's basically a 3d remake. I love this movie. It may not be the best video game movie, but I enjoy it for what it is. I like it more than the new one.

The stories about the making of this movie are probably greater than the movie itself. Everything from Bob Hoskin's hand getting smashed by the van door, to copious amounts of alcohol and John being drunk while filming on set along with Bob just to make it through the day. Re-writes upon re-writes, and two directors that everyone hated. It's amazing we ever got another Mario Movie at all.
I haven't watched this movie, but you know what it reminded me of? Not in terms of quality at all or story or anything, but just in terms of how chaotic it was and how crowded the shots are? Everything Everywhere All at Once. They called mammals "egg-suckers" because that's what they were in the time of dinosaurs--little proto-rodents that lived on seeds and bugs and tried to steal and eat eggs from larger animals like dinosaurs.
Dennis Hopper said in an interview one time his son asked him why he played King Koopa and he told him he did it so he could have shoes. His son replied "I'd rather be barefoot, Dad."
In Germany we have a show called The Worst Movies of all Time. Every episode they show a bad movie and add funny commentary and discussions and stuff, it's very fun. Maybe it's because I saw this movie in that context for the first time, but I had a lot if fun with it😅
Look, I grew up in the 90s, it was the Mario Bros. film and I loved it so much that I even made a full length fan script for a sequel when I was 11. It's terrible, it isn't good. I love every piece of it.
"Think they're gonna bone?" Bone? Bone?! *BONE!!!!"* "Mario talking about killing people?" Do you not remember this gem? "And if you do drugs, you go to hell before you die."
The reason for Koopa's weird quirks like germaphobia and creepiness towards women is something you already mentioned: he, like almost every evil businessman from 80s and 90s media, was based on Donald Trump, who is famously both of those things.
I'm fucking dying, by happenstance I started doing the "EVERYONE!!" bit myself half a second before Calvin did too. I'm starting to have terminal movie meme brain rot.
I love this movie. I always have. When it came out, I took my dad to see this movie for his birthday. He paid for everything because I was eight years old
The directors of this had a part in developing and directing the pilot TV movie for Max Headroom. Once you watch that, the choices in this make much more sense.
This was before the Gameboy games Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins and Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land. If this movie was made after them you know the Scapelli’s would have been named Wario Scapelli & Waluigi Scapelli.
Just watched Corridor Digital's breakdown on what this movie has done to the industry which surprised me. Watch it on the side even, its just great insight.
Maybe it's cos I grew up with 90s movies, but I really enjoy this. The humour's charming, Mario and Luigi have great wholesome chemistry, and the tone is all over the place like in all the classics. Also, I've always preferred Mario being a new yorker like he always used to be in the cartoon etc, rather than a stereotypical fake italian accent. Gimme Danny Devito as Mario, it's what the people want
I have this on DVD lol I forgot how good the casting was. John Leguizamo was/is so cute! He was perfect for a teen/youth movie. Bob Hoskins was hilarious. Loved him in Hook and Who Framed Roger Robbit as well. Dennis Hopper as the villain. The music is goofy, the storyline is silly, but the casting was great. 😂
@@marquis911 why? It's a kids movie I saw and enjoyed it as a kid I've shown it to my kids as well and they like it. If your too ignorant and unable to see the basic intentions of a movie that's your problem.
Born in 86. This was my shit as a kid. Loved hoskins and leguizamo. Just loved it, I mean fucking loveddd it. Haven’t seen it in so long. People need to react to who framed roger rabbit.
The song is Drive To Work On Instinct by Alan Silvestri, it does sound a bit like To Court and Pulled Over by John Debney from the Liar Liar Score. Though i too feel like i have heard this on something else.

Everything good in this movie can be summed up in two words: terrified "Bob-omb" and excited "Monkey!"
Dennis Hopper said in an interview one time his son asked him why he played King Koopa and he told him he did it so he could have shoes. His son replied "I'd rather be barefoot, Dad."
Fun fact,John liguzamo (Luigi) and Samantha Mathis (peach) were actually a couple in real life.
I remember waking up to this movie one morning and still have no idea what I watched.
So cool you guys reacted to this! Awesome movie! A gem from my childhood! 😊📼
Oh my god, I have NEVER clicked on a video so fast. I cannot wait to watch this with y’all!
"Think they're gonna bone?"
Bone? Bone?! *BONE!!!!"*
"Mario talking about killing people?"
Do you not remember this gem?
"And if you do drugs, you go to hell before you die."
That was actually just a fun movie the reputation was so much worse, it was self aware that makes it great
I grew up watching this movie. It is easily one of my biggest guilty pleasures. 😂
The reason for Koopa's weird quirks like germaphobia and creepiness towards women is something you already mentioned: he, like almost every evil businessman from 80s and 90s media, was based on Donald Trump, who is famously both of those things.
Nothing to bring you into the colorful fun world of Mario like the Law & Order font. - Rifftrax
It’s hilarious how half this movie Mario is in green and Luigi in red
I'm fucking dying, by happenstance I started doing the "EVERYONE!!" bit myself half a second before Calvin did too. I'm starting to have terminal movie meme brain rot.
I love this movie. I always have. When it came out, I took my dad to see this movie for his birthday. He paid for everything because I was eight years old
YES DAISY IS ACTUAL CHARACTER FROM THE MARIO GAMES! SHE FIRST APPEARED IN SUPER MARIO LAND!
The directors of this had a part in developing and directing the pilot TV movie for Max Headroom. Once you watch that, the choices in this make much more sense.
As a Mario movie this sucks, but as a stupid campy 90s movie it is a masterpiece.
39:30 Is Eric thinking of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids? Because I always thought those were rather similiar in their scores.
This was before the Gameboy games Super Mario Land 2: The Six Golden Coins and Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land. If this movie was made after them you know the Scapelli’s would have been named Wario Scapelli & Waluigi Scapelli.
43:18 Wrestlemania 9 was supposed to be in Caesar's Palace. Instead, they wound up holding the whole event in a Goddamn parking lot!
Did the guys notice that Lena was played by Fiona Shaw - Maarva in Andor?
The comments you guys said in this vid are so good, funny quotes great reaction as always
I’m like how they didn’t even wanna MENTION what happened to the twin towers in that one scene…. This movie truly is something 😅
This movie was a masterpiece!
Hahaha yeah, that’s rich
Just watched Corridor Digital's breakdown on what this movie has done to the industry which surprised me. Watch it on the side even, its just great insight.
yea this movie basically pioneered modern vfx systems, so who knows where independent vfx companies would be without this movie
THIS MOVIE WAS A WEIRD FEVER DREAM!
THIS REMINDS ME OF THE SNL SKIT!
hes a germ a phobe cause he hates fungus...he hates mushrooms. This movie is so underated.
I have this on DVD lol
I forgot how good the casting was.
I don't remember a lot of this movie. I wish I remembered less. But Bob Hoskins and big bertha... smash
Yes! This is the very first movie I've ever seen in a movie theater
I am truly sorry for you.
The amount of times they said plumbers,I was surprised no one from the crew referenced Ben 10
This is a marvel of modern cinema. They took a bland videogame and turned it into a dystopian scifi masterpiece. :>
Cocaine Bear just hit streaming. Hopefully they do that movie soon
The song is Drive To Work On Instinct by Alan Silvestri, it does sound a bit like To Court and Pulled Over by John Debney from the Liar Liar Score. Though i too feel like i have heard this on something else.
It's crazy how this movie premiered two of the most integral VFX technologies that would shape the future of film lol
PRETTY MUCH ALL OF THE ACTORS WERE DRUNK MAKING THIS MOVIE!
The song is called "drive to work on instinct" sounds very similar to a few 90s films, reminded me of "Babies day out"
Samantha Mathis’ mom is the actress who played Dr. Carol Marcus in Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan.
Still a masterpiece.
The first TMNT movie is the best of them all, so I am looking forward for you to watching it! :)
