Everyone sees how adorable and happy she is but one can only imagine the titanium willpower she must have because she is exiled from her friends and village for who knows how long yet she is still so cheerful and happily tries to help others....best kirin hands down.
Every time I looked up mythical creatures, I always stumble upon the Kirin. I actually wonder about that. I mean, yes, Discord deliberately tampered with the map and their Cutie Marks, but something tells me the Tree of Harmony deliberately allowed this to happen. Because it new Discord tampering with things was stemming from his own hurt feelings of being left out of everything involved with the school, and as such the Tree of Harmony recognized a friendship problem at the root of his actions. So, in a way, you could argue that the Tree of Harmony had a hand in both the Mane Six's Cutie Mark signaling a friendship mission and giving a destination, but in a more passive way, permitting Discord to feel like he was the one pulling the strings, in order to set up the situation where he would has his own friendship problem resolved.
I've been waiting for this. Always a pleasure seeing your reactions. Especially when they finally subvert the usual trope of Fluttershy being too quiet to get noticed. Dat character development. And to answer your question AG, kirin are the Chinese and Korean version of unicorns. Often portrayed as a mix between dragons, horses, and lions. I honestly love the design of the kirins. Also, one cool detail the animators showed at the end was Autumn Blaze walking/hopping on the water (we see her emerge from the fountain earlier in the episode, showing it is not that shallow). (Continued from my other comment.) 11:19-14:35 Autumn Blaze's history of the Kirin/Nirik song. Also, Applegeek's reactions. 11:34 That smile. 11:35-11:37 Autumn Blaze used to be a stage performer. 11:37 Autumn's smile. 11:38-11:53 The Kirin and the Nirik are the same species. They transform into fiery creatures whenever they get angry. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 11:51-11:53 Autumn Blaze loves rhyming. 11:55-12:21 The Kirin village was destroyed by their Nirik flames. So they entered a magical stream (the Stream of Silence) to make sure they wouldn't say anything hurtful or transform again. But without speech, they lost all feeling and emotion. 12:04-12:06 Pretty much. 12:21-12:24 That's like the intro to the Brady Bunch. Also, did she say "Sudoku" - they have that in Equestria? Also, yes, that is G3 Rainbow Dash's cutiemark. 12:35-12:39 Applejack's face. 12:46-13:47 Autumn Blaze found a cure for her silence, but the other Kirin feared her talking. She was cast out after choosing to keep her voice. 13:08-13:29 Yep, she's a stage performer through and through. 13:10 Possibly. Also, is that poster drawn in manga style? 13:13-14:29 Phantom of the Opera. There's no doubt about it. Also, that break in the song was epic. 13:38-13:54 They've been using magic throughout the whole episode, Applegeek. 13:47-13:50 Autumn Blaze has a collection of Wilsons - if you know what I mean. 13:51-13:54 That looks cool. 14:20-14:24 Same here. There haven't been many songs this season, but this one was one of the best. 14:47-14:57 Autumn Blaze thinks Applejack named her shadow Fluttershy. She named her's - get this - Silhouette Gloom of the Sundown Lands. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 14:57-15:19 Applejack is sure she can convince the other Kirin to welcome Autumn Blaze back into the village and take her cure. However, the antidote is all gone. 15:21-15:23 Now you're getting it, Applejack. 15:24-15:43 Autumn Blaze knows Applejack's plan isn't going to be easy. Her hoof agrees. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 15:46-15:54 Fluttershy and Applejack speak in unison. You're right, AJ, they wouldn't have that problem, would they? 15:55-16:06 Fluttershy and Applejack have a disagreement. 16:08-16:32 Fluttershy tells the Kirin's side of the story. 16:32-16:58 Fluttershy and Applejack have an argument. The Kirin are freaked out. 16:58-17:26 The Kirin try to 'purify' Applejack and Fluttershy in the Stream of Silence. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 17:25-17:27 That voice. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 17:27-17:38 Don't worry, it's just Autumn Blaze. 17:32-17:36 Fluttershy is scared. 17:38-17:47 That she does, Fluttershy. More than you know. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 17:49-17:52 Whoops. Best put that out. 17:56-18:07 Autumn Blaze can't stop herself feeling angry. But she has learned to control it and knows what to do when she's in Nirik form. This is a great message about handling your emotions wisely. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 18:08-18:12 Applejack makes a good point, too. 18:18-18:31 I agree with you, Applegeek. 18:34-18:48 Applejack forgets the times she and Fluttershy argued. 18:53-19:02 The Nirik form is a perfect metaphor for anger, isn't it? If you're mad it can make you say and do some pretty hurtful things. It's important to take some time away so you can calm down. 19:02-19:19 Autumn Blaze is not good at charades. 19:09-19:11 That face. 19:17-19:32 Autumn Blaze becomes a Nirik in frustration, but manages to control her anger by walking away for a moment. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 19:33-19:47 The Kirin want Autumn's cure, but they still need the flowers to make it. 19:52-20:00 Seventy-three-and-a-half times? That is oddly specific. I guess she really has been lonely enough to count. 20:12-20:33 A squirrel knows where they can find the flowers they need. They're the ones Fluttershy helped them gather before. Also, I have no idea what's up with the symbols on that rock, Applegeek. 20:39-20:58 Fluttershy and Applejack understand why they were the ones summoned by the map. 20:59 Fluttershy and Applejack hug. 21:04-21:12 Autumn Blaze is happy that they've found the flowers, and wants to hear a long description of how. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 21:10 That smile. 21:12-21:14 Yes, get you're priorities straight, Autumn. 21:12-21:16 I agree, Applegeek. 21:15-21:30 Autumn Blaze adds the flowers to the village water supply. Drinking it restores the Kirin's voices. 21:31-21:50 The Kirin leader (Rain Shine) thanks Autumn Blaze for teaching them to control their anger. Also, I really like her voice. 21:52-22:25 Song reprise! Autumn is a brilliant singer. 22:25-22:28 Mission accomplished and hoof bump. By the way, did you guys notice this was one of the shortest MLP episodes ever made? It's not even 20mins long! 22:29-22:35/23:05-23:20 Applegeek is blown away by the episode. 22:56-23:03 Woah! The Allsparks logo? That's new. Also, Applegeek's reaction. 23:59-24:04 That's not true; there was Fake It Till You Make It. But that was pretty bad too. All in all, this was a very casual but exciting map episode. The best part (aside from the song) was undoubtedly the moral. I already said it in my highlights, but the Nirik form is a perfect metaphor for anger. It shows exactly what terrible things can happen if you let such emotions get out of control. It's understandable why some people would want to get rid of them altogether, but sacrificing all other emotions to do so is no way to live. It's important to face your feelings and know how to handle them, rather than running away. Even if we just had positive emotions, we would lose our passion for life. Happiness and joy are worth nothing unless they exist side by side with anger and sadness. Two halves of one coin, as they say. And with that, we have only one more episode to go before the big finale. I don't know what it's about, exactly, but I'm very interested to see it, given I know what the title is.
I'M HERE!!!! I CAME THE MOMENT I SAW YOU!!!! I love this show. It has the best song out of season 8. Autam Blaze remindes me a lot of myself. I love to talk and talk and also........ I LOVE MUSICAL THEATER!!!!
Applegeek: “(Kirin) they have been living together peacefully for a very long time. Then everything changed when the fire nation-I mean, when they started getting angry at each other...” Me: I see what you almost did there...😏
19:23 Haha! Autumn's tail vanishes for a few frames. Found an animation error! Btw, this is my favorite episode in the season(mostly for the song and new creatures). Hope a Kirin goes to the School of Friendship in the next season!
46:30 "Neither of them were truly listening to each other, and thus were not making any effort to understand the other's position, but instead just kept repeating their own position louder and louder..." Sounds like most talk shows these days.
Yep, it was like a argument that's basically just "I'm right!" "No, I'm right!" "No i am!" No, I am!" They just didn't get to the name-calling part that typically happens Irl in that kind of argument.
@@Gokuvstheworld Well I don't know... in Finnish it goes "eipäs" ,"juupas" ...."saapas". The -pas (or -päs depending on vowels) is argumentative suffix. Saa(da) is a verb meaning to recieve or to be allowed -- so saapas could be argumentative form. However, saapas is also a noun that means boot. So... it kind of follows the pattern but is so completely random it just stops that kind of argument right there.
I think we can agree that the Kirin are beautiful creatures. They're now my favorite. If I was in this show, I'd love to be one. You can tell that a few are males.
Yet we never saw a single child. But talking about the kids is opening a whole other can of worms regarding the vow of silence that would be complicated and dark, so maybe it's best not to
I loved seeing Fluttershy's assertiveness near the start of this episode, it made me smile in joy. Also, new sapient and _understandable_ species. Yay!
When Hasbro eventually decides to make an album for Season 7 and Season 8 the song A Kirin's Tale better be on it along with You're in my Head Like a Catchy Song, Your Heart is in Two Places, Flawless, and Friendship Bound! Fingers Crossed!😄
as soon as i saw this i knew you were gonna go nuts over assertive Fluttershy, i love how they shortened the usually "character A tries to explain something but character B keeps talking over them" cliche, and it's doubly awesome cause it's Fluttershy.
The Qilin or kirins ar the chinese and jampanese unicorns that are verry noble and protector of the weaks they ingulf in flames only if they get atack or disturbing i love them be cannon because they are beautiful creature of the oriental mithology 😊
Alright so we got the magical and majestic kirin but also the threat of dangerous nirik....wait a second nirik...oh my god I got the joke...it's Dracula spelled backwards!
"Hmm, gee that blue flower sure does look suspiciously detailed and out of place, i WONDER if it's going to be a mcguffin later on in the episode" - Checkov's Gun
OK, changing my opinion from Road to Friendship. THIS was the best episode this season so far! The message, the song, Autumn. Especially Autumn! Wow. Just... WOW!!!
01:54 I see what they did here ;> Not only the Yin-Yang symbolism of complementary opposites similar to that about Celestia and Luna back in S1, but also Kirin read backwards is Nirik :) 03:39 OK, OK, we get it, Mr. Tales from the Crypt Pony :q 04:28 Is it me, or Applejack is slowly turning into a dude? :q Her voice seems to get lower and lower with every episode :q 05:16 Even Fluttershy can have enough of those people sometimes :q 10:12 Yup :> Now we know where those weird ponies live :J 10:38 ...and then the intro song kicks in and ruins the mood :D "Myyyy Litle Ponyyyyy, My Little Ponyyyyyy..." :D 12:04 Kirin2525: "Yo' mama! >:o" Kirinat0r: "No, yo' mama! :[" ModPony: "Thread locked! GTFO!" /mode #KirinVlg -v * 12:22 Hahah good catch :) You really know your previous generations, aren't you? ;> 12:34 What's your favourite scary movie? ;> 13:37 ModPony: "GTFO troll!" (banned) 14:50 I think there could be a second meaning for that shadow thing :q You know, the Jungian shadow ;J and the Kirin/Nirik duality :> 17:37 This transformation effect kinda looks like how Changelings do it :o And Changelings have the good side & bad side too! Could there be any connection between those two species? :o
To address your last point, dragons were also shown to have a bad side to them (when they get greedy, they turn into giant feral versions of themselves), and ponies were shown to have a bad side to them (when the Nightmare Force possesses them and transforms them). Yes, I know the comment is old, but they seem to have done this with almost everything in the show.
hiya Applegeek. One thing I noted that probably does not really need to be pointed out, but the pronunciations of Kirin and Nirik, are just ways of speaking the same name backwards... Keer-in, Neer-ik. The Kirin are usually kind and loving, but anger turns them into their opposing selves... the Nerik. Learning how to deal with that 'negative' power in a constructive manner is, to me, the 'lesson' learned here in this episode. But as you pointed out, there are more than one way to see a lesson learned here, and I do agree with your points, but I feel mine is valid as well. We all get something out of the show. Not always the same thing or things... this is NOT a bad thing. Just my thoughts, the Frank Pony
19:18 me: Here, have a Snickers bar. Autumn Blaze: Why? Me: Because you turn into a Nirik when you get hungry. *Autumn Blaze eats Snickers bar* Me: Better? Autumn Blaze: Better.
07:27 Remember when the cutiemap called Applejack and Rarity to Manehattan? [S5E16] They had trouble finding a friendship problem in a neighborhood with x3 the population of Ponyville... Then a (random?) gust of wind put a pamphlet literally "in their faces" -> Episode "What Lies Beneath" [S8E22] shows the Tree of Harmony controling the wind.
Oh and by the way did anyone notice one of the kirins has a Princess Celestia eye shape and the first to have eyeshadow pretty cool if I do say so myself
10:19 to 10:38 Autumn Blaze referenced the law of equivalent exchange in Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - One is All and All is One, everything in the world is connected and we are part of the everything Also, I just noticed that this speech can also be a reference to the Circle of Life from the Lion King and Lion Guard
.......its a reference to the classic Broadway musical Phantom of the Opera but they did make a movie of it (not a great movie but a movie non the less)
Applejack : I guess you don't wanna talk about it. Autumn blaze : No......I rather "SIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!!!!!" 13:31 I want to see Pinkie pie, Cheese sandwich, Princess Skytar, Silverstream all together.
This episode was basically a lesson in Stoicism. The universe and its qualms are uncontrollable, and indifferent to the human condition; therefore, it is how we handle these intangible situations that determines our sense of well-being.
I just had to look up the voice actor for Autumn Blaze (Rachel Bloom) and the first thing I find is the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Now I’m binge watching it.
Everyone sees how adorable and happy she is but one can only imagine the titanium willpower she must have because she is exiled from her friends and village for who knows how long yet she is still so cheerful and happily tries to help others....best kirin hands down.

"Flanks don't lie" didn't we literally in this season exactly this case when discord turned the school upside down? :D
Lol, true!
So true, but i have a feeling that the writers were just waiting for an opertunity (sorry if i wrote that wrong) to say that
I actually wonder about that. I mean, yes, Discord deliberately tampered with the map and their Cutie Marks, but something tells me the Tree of Harmony deliberately allowed this to happen. Nirik is how you say kirin BACKWARDS.

'flanks don't lie'
Translation:
'Butts don't lie: - Twilight Sparkle 2018
btamamura there goes my joke...
Hips don’t lie
"the bubbliness of Pinkie Pie + the nerdiness of Twilight Sparkle = Autumn Blaze"
Yes. yes it does.
22:56 YAY!!!!
Allspark Animation!
(Bronies Are Awesome as Allspark Animation!)
I WAS WAITING FOR YOU TO FINALLY REACT TO THIS EPISODE!!!!!! SO LOOONG, I'VE WAITED!!!!!!!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
same XD
Me to
Same
Same
Ditto 😁
Fun Fact: Kirin is backwards for Nirik but it’s the same how you say the name backwards. XD
I know right! I was wondering if anyone noticed. XD
I'M HERE!!!! I CAME THE MOMENT I SAW YOU!!!!
I love this show. It has the best song out of season 8. Autam Blaze remindes me a lot of myself. I love to talk and talk and also........
I LOVE MUSICAL THEATER!!!!
I CAME AS SOON AS I HEARD
That's what she said! >:D
same XD
…. Autumn Blaze's SEXY VOICE!
Me to
anigelicaaaaa all the way from londand DAM!
The song was just perfect
I know how ya feel man! That song break was the most unexpected in the season, no musical cues to give me a hint.
Phantom of the Opera is canon to MLP. I'm happy for life now. Best musical ever.
Autumn blaze kind of reminds me of the guy from castaway Having object as a friend It gets very lonely
WILSON!
IT'S A REFERENCE TO THE MOVIE
And her shadow as well. (Finding Nemo / Peter Pan?)
Applegeek: “(Kirin) they have been living together peacefully for a very long time. Then everything changed when the fire nation-I mean, when they started getting angry at each other...”
Me: I see what you almost did there...😏
19:23 Haha! Autumn's tail vanishes for a few frames. Found an animation error!
Btw, this is my favorite episode in the season(mostly for the song and new creatures). Hope a Kirin goes to the School of Friendship in the next season!
This episode perfectly predicted every extrovert in quarantine right now. I love it
46:30 "Neither of them were truly listening to each other, and thus were not making any effort to understand the other's position, but instead just kept repeating their own position louder and louder..."
Sounds like most talk shows these days.
Yep, it was like a argument that's basically just "I'm right!" "No, I'm right!" "No i am!" No, I am!"
They just didn't get to the name-calling part that typically happens Irl in that kind of argument.
21:31 Holy! I was expecting Rain Shine to sound like Celestia! Love her voice!
13:30 AND GABY TOO !
Omg I could NOT imagine that!
Autumn Blaze, Pinkie Pie, Silverstream, Skystar (if only) and Gabby
ALL the reactions drop at once, and its one of the best of the season - what a great time to just enjoy the delight the episode brings!
I think we can agree that the Kirin are beautiful creatures. They're now my favorite. If I was in this show, I'd love to be one. You can tell that a few are males.
Yet we never saw a single child.
But talking about the kids is opening a whole other can of worms regarding the vow of silence that would be complicated and dark, so maybe it's best not to
Autum Breeze Yeah.......
If they wanted to procreate, yet had to remain silent while doing it = Awkward LOL 😂😂😂
Nah. It's better to be human.
This is my fav episode this season!
"It's a lesson my village fin'ly learned" is a bit better of line for the reprise cause they did finally learn it.
40:03 - The Fire Nation? That's the best reference to that situation Applegeek, hehe!
This is by far my favorite season 8 episode. I especially love the song
Anger is within us but it is our duty how we process it. Loved that moral
I can describe this episode in 2 word mind blowing and amazing without a doubt!.
I would have preferred if it was pinkie pie instead of Applejack
17:55
Autumnblaze: ""I have anger management""
Applejack: ""They have that out here!""
Kirin are badass creatures being part dragon and pony with unicorn traits I’m so glad the show included them
I love Autumn Blaze. She’s like the anti-S5 Starlight Glimmer.
as soon as i saw this i knew you were gonna go nuts over assertive Fluttershy, i love how they shortened the usually "character A tries to explain something but character B keeps talking over them" cliche, and it's doubly awesome cause it's Fluttershy.
I was going to bed but than I got a notification from Applegeek and I was like SLEEP CAN WAIT! I NEED TO WATCH APPLEGEEKS REACTION! XD
After a rough day, seeing this in my feed helps perk me up. What excellent timing! I've been waiting to see this one come up in your feed.
Autumn blaze sounds. Like The lost narrator
Except she doesn't curse like a sailor
@@fusionomni305 see Rachel bloom stand ups...
Oh, I know
I don’t see it
21:51 Kirinized Celestia
3:30 THE CRYPTKEEPER
Omg yes. XD
I'm fully expecting that song to be remixed.
Wonderful reaction!!
That part with the conductor was the funniest thing I've ever seen in MLP. Ever. XD
Best episode of S8 imo.
The Qilin or kirins ar the chinese and jampanese unicorns that are verry noble and protector of the weaks they ingulf in flames only if they get atack or disturbing i love them be cannon because they are beautiful creature of the oriental mithology 😊
They're pretty awesome in monster hunter.
Also Nirik is just Kirin backwards just like how they are opposite in nature
*i think this is my favorite episode...*
My second favourite for sure! Best new character, best song in the show's history, good moral that's well executed, and the Kirin are super cool
This is one of my favorite episodes of the series. And I love the song and the voice actor who sang it made it sound so good. I love this episode!
I just realised niriks is kirin spelled backwards
I knew someone would beat me to making that comment 😅
Not really if you add the "s".
@@joanneliu9835 what "s"? The plural doesnt count.
Alright so we got the magical and majestic kirin but also the threat of dangerous nirik....wait a second nirik...oh my god I got the joke...it's Dracula spelled backwards!
Watched this episode 7 times... and I NEVER CAUGHT THAT!!!
Dracula spelled backwards?
Alucard?!
Or are you talking about how 'nirik' is kirin spelled backwards?
"Hmm, gee that blue flower sure does look suspiciously detailed and out of place, i WONDER if it's going to be a mcguffin later on in the episode" - Checkov's Gun
5:21 Me: *applegeeks reaction when the black panther came out*
Mom: Honey you ok?
Me: *grabs her purse and runs to the cinema* Later mom!
XD
hey applegeek. does Rain Shine resembles princess Celestia?
Seeing your reaction to this episode gives me life :3
13:09 SHE JUST PRESENTED HAMILTON ALL BY HERSELF 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Does that mean she's the kirin version of Lin-Manuel Miranda in there universe?
This is my favorite episode of the season, and your reactions are great. 😊
OK, changing my opinion from Road to Friendship. THIS was the best episode this season so far! The message, the song, Autumn. Especially Autumn! Wow. Just... WOW!!!
01:54 I see what they did here ;> Not only the Yin-Yang symbolism of complementary opposites similar to that about Celestia and Luna back in S1, but also Kirin read backwards is Nirik :)
03:39 OK, OK, we get it, Mr. Tales from the Crypt Pony :q
04:28 Is it me, or Applejack is slowly turning into a dude? :q Her voice seems to get lower and lower with every episode :q
05:16 Even Fluttershy can have enough of those people sometimes :q
10:12 Yup :> Now we know where those weird ponies live :J
10:38 ...and then the intro song kicks in and ruins the mood :D "Myyyy Litle Ponyyyyy, My Little Ponyyyyyy..." :D
12:04 Kirin2525: "Yo' mama! >:o" Kirinat0r: "No, yo' mama! :[" ModPony: "Thread locked! GTFO!" /mode #KirinVlg -v *
12:22 Hahah good catch :) You really know your previous generations, aren't you? ;>
12:34 What's your favourite scary movie? ;>
13:37 ModPony: "GTFO troll!" (banned)
14:50 I think there could be a second meaning for that shadow thing :q You know, the Jungian shadow ;J and the Kirin/Nirik duality :>
17:37 This transformation effect kinda looks like how Changelings do it :o And Changelings have the good side & bad side too!
Just my thoughts,
the Frank Pony
I can't even describe how happy i am for this reaction. my night just got better. Thank you so much applegeek!!!
19:18 me: Here, have a Snickers bar.
Autumn Blaze: Why?
Me: Because you turn into a Nirik when you get hungry.
*Autumn Blaze eats Snickers bar*
Me: Better?
Autumn Blaze: Better.
07:27 Remember when the cutiemap called Applejack and Rarity to Manehattan? [S5E16]
They had trouble finding a friendship problem in a neighborhood with x3 the population of Ponyville... Then a (random?) gust of wind put a pamphlet literally "in their faces"
-> Episode "What Lies Beneath" [S8E22] shows the Tree of Harmony controling the wind.
I was just looking for this video and saw this notify me, lol
The queen of kirin is just like celestia
Rainshine
Oh and by the way did anyone notice one of the kirins has a Princess Celestia eye shape and the first to have eyeshadow pretty cool if I do say so myself
10:19 to 10:38 Autumn Blaze referenced the law of equivalent exchange in Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood - One is All and All is One, everything in the world is connected and we are part of the everything
Also, I just noticed that this speech can also be a reference to the Circle of Life from the Lion King and Lion Guard
Wow the reference to the movie where the guy with the mask took the the girl I had to watch that in class Monday! Or maybe it’s just a coincidence?
.......its a reference to the classic Broadway musical Phantom of the Opera but they did make a movie of it (not a great movie but a movie non the less)
Applejack : I guess you don't wanna talk about it.
Autumn blaze : No......I rather "SIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!!!!!"
13:31 I want to see Pinkie pie, Cheese sandwich, Princess Skytar, Silverstream all together.
And Gabby lol
This episode was basically a lesson in Stoicism. The universe and its qualms are uncontrollable, and indifferent to the human condition; therefore, it is how we handle these intangible situations that determines our sense of well-being.
I love that assessment of Autumn Blaze -- Pinkie + Twilight = Autumn Blaze. Also, I, too, love the design of the Kirin/Nirik.
10:18-10:39 wow! That is really deep Autumn Blaze
First
To curse myself for making a comment like this
Sound of Silence is by far my favorite episode of season 8
You’re the best my little pony friendship is magic reactor I’ve ever met
48:05 At this point, Autumn Blaze is reminding me of Princess Skystar.
I'm always 3 days late for this, ALWAYS
Like literally in every episode
The song makes this one of the best episodes of the series
I just had to look up the voice actor for Autumn Blaze (Rachel Bloom) and the first thing I find is the show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. Now I’m binge watching it.
