If these ARE true stories--man I am glad I chose to live a "child-free" life. It sounds like a lot of dysfunctional families out there. Selfish children expecting money from a retired parent. An elderly parent expecting financial assistance from children when the topic was NEVER discussed honesty and openly--YIKES! Being alone does NOT mean you have to be lonely. Freedom and independence are wonderful things. PLAN for your health and body to have issues as you age--PLAN how you will handle things such as the need for cataract surgery. I took an Uber there-and-back and had a single eye done so that I could settle down once home for the short recovery. As an older person, I am a GROWN UP who has weathered many good and difficult times in my life.
