Star Citizen is an upcoming multiplayer space trading and combat game developed and published by Cloud Imperium Games for Microsoft Windows. Development of the game began in 2011 led by director Chris Roberts, and is being mostly financed from a large crowdfunding campaign of over US$250 million.
Squadron 42 is a story-based single-player campaign set in the Star Citizen fictional universe described by the developers as a "spiritual successor to Wing Commander". It is being developed by the Foundry 42 studio under the supervision of Chris Roberts' brother Erin, who had already worked with him on the Wing Commander series and led the production and development of games like Privateer 2: The Darkening and Starlancer. It was originally announced for release in 2014 during the Kickstarter campaign, but significant expansion of gameplay features have led to postponement.
The developers state that the interactive storyline centers on an elite military unit and involves the player character enlisting in the United Empire of Earth Navy, taking part in a campaign that starts with a large space battle.
The player's actions will allow them to optionally achieve citizenship in the UEE and affect their status in the Star Citizen persistent universe, but neither of the two games has to be played in order to access the other. In addition to space combat simulation and first-person shooter elements, reported features include a conversation system that affects relationships with non-player pilots and an optional cooperative multiplayer mode.

If humans can makes this digital images of starships and spacestations so real like Star Wars, Eve Online and Star citizen Squadron 42, I believe we can also built actual starships like this! Maybe in a hundred years but it is possible!
Oh yeah, it's totally possible. It's the waiting that's a killer. I can only imagine if this is what people felt like when planes were just getting off the ground.

All I can say is "Oh Shit" if you got Gary Oldman pissed at ya! lol. But I must say the complexity and functionality of the new ships is downright amazing. Such detail. But then to present the ships for purchase like automobiles and advertise in the same way is well done. Two thumbs up!
These definitely scratch that nerd-gasm itch, what with feeling so believable while being so sci-fi fantasy. Some of them even manage to bring a tear to your eye.

I believe in this project with a passion. I used to be one of the skeptics and haters who thought it was a scam. That all changed once I started researching this project thoroughly. When I read and saw that one of my favorite actors of all time is starring in the single player campaign (Mark Hamill) I immediately began to start changing my viewpoint. The cutscenes alone prove the actors and actresses are not in on the scam with how much effort is shown. I started researching the technology CIG is inventing to make this game work and I was just amazed. In 20% of the human population there is a gene known as the "Adventure"s Gene" which influences the personality and actions of the people who have it. You know you have it. It's something you don't think, it's something you feel. If you have to urge to always uncover blank spaces on the map, feel like you don't belong in any one place, the need to see what's just beyond the horizon or over the cusp of a hill. I have full confidence that all those who back this project with passion and no skepticism have that gene. You feel free when you hop in your ship and travel 23million miles to another planet or moon. I know I do.

@@IsItTobz It's easier to not believe than it is to have faith. And to be honest I only learned about Star Citizen almost 3 years ago when I was getting into No Man's Sky. And I didn't even know much of it then. Only when buddies were hounding me to try it did I sit on the skepticism fence. They tried telling me it was super fun and all that but my Fraud Prevention Training was kicking in and I thought it was a scam with the insane ship prices. Like I said it took research to set aside all doubts. Some believe in a project immediately, others need more convincing and I was the latter.

I am no aerospace engineer, but to me the Origin 300 series (supposedly really fast) looks like the most un aerodynamic design of them all. The back wing thing that encloses the engines look like it would increase drag through aerospace simply because there's just so much contact. But hey, what do I know?
At first I hated these little shorts; I thought: 'make the damn game as opposed to all this post production and editing work' but I have to admit it's growing on me, especially the Top Gear spoof.

I bought the Aurora LX pack for 25€ during the opening of the back, and then i bought the 300i during it's released, that's about as much as i intend on spending on this game's crowdfunding. I've spent more money backing Firefall's successor - Em8er .

Star Citizen is a game... a freaking MASSIVE indie game, the (intended) scope of which puts AAA games like Cuberpunk 2077 to shame... and it's been in open Alpha/Beta for about 7 years.

@@aaroncampos4654 You'll need a _really_ good gaming PC setup to play it... with about 64 GB of free space on the drive.
Other than that I'm pretty sure it's free to play, though you won't own any actual ships at the beginning unless you buy a donation package (it is an indie game, so it relies 100% on crowdfunding). You can still play completely for free, but you'll have to start out being a part of someone else's crew to do missions to earn credits (in-game currency) to buy a ship of your own.

Your best bet is to talk to some friends or family or coworkers about it, see if any of them can give you some advice for getting a good gaming laptop or PC build. But if you're going to do that mainly to be able to play Star Citizen, I _highly_ recommend looking at the required specs for the game so you don't accidentally buy something that the game can't run on.
So cool, I wish I could play a game like this. Maybe I'll have to wait until 2945.
I just have one request for this game.. don’t bend in to pressure to hurry up.. go “all out” and don’t settle for anything but the absolute best I don’t care if we have to wait 10 years..

Wow, a lot of ignorant comments on this video, on cinematic clips that have been nicely edited together but are pretty old (obsolete).
For genuinely interested people, Star Citizen Alpha 3.7 just released, my advice would be to check out game-play footage for the game's current status, not outdated cinematics (though thanks to the uploader for putting them together for nostalgia.)
Be aware that there are fanatics on both sides: staunch defenders who feel CIG/Star Citizen can do no wrong, and people who love other IPs like No Man's Sky, Eve Online, and Elite: Dangerous, who feel the need to attack CIG/Star Citizen because they feel threatened by it. Both of these are the vocal minorities, however, as most of us own multiple games and see the merits and flaws in each.
I played Eve Online from 2008 - 2012, then Star Wars: The Old Republic from 2012 to 2014, then Star Citizen from 2014 onwards, and I don't regret a penny I've spent. I picked up Elite in 2015, including getting the Horizons DLC, but I simply prefer flight in Star Citizen, that's just me. My friend prefers Elite, and that's fine. We make time to play both.

But the best advice I can give to anyone considering the game, is make up your own minds. Don't let others tell you what to think or feel, and if you're unsure, wait for a free fly when you can jump in and try it for free, then decide based on your own experience. Next free fly should be coming up around the game's Kickstarter anniversary which is around late October I think.
