  • In this video I have to adapt the fit of the 26 mm carburetor by making a angle plate to keep the bottom of the carb from contacting the cases. I also cut the 75 125 MX head to fit the cylinder and the MX expanison chamber.

    Good work. I'm doing some work on an at3 and I plan to use larger reed valve from rd350 they use the same bolt pattern

      Thanks, I had heard there was a larger unit, I just happen to have a RD250, so I may just use one on it. Thanks for the tip. Good luck on your build, and thanks for hanging out with me on mine.

      Hello, I'm rectifying the cylinder on my CT2 and I'm also going to install another set of reed valves because the original is too small (the same as the DT100). Did performance improve with the RD350 reed valve assembly? Thank you for your attention!

    Hello Dale, I hope all is well. It's great to see another vintage motorcycle video.

      Thanks Larry, all is good here, just hotter than a pistol, man I enjoy these vintage bike builds with yesterday's modifications. I remember so...watching the Oldtimers at the time doing this stuff on these bikes (that were new then). I enjoy this kind of stuff more than the restorations. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me. More to come.

    That is a trick looking engine my friend. Great work as always Dale. I think the extra material on the reed block adapter will really help to keep heat away from the charge.
    'Close enough for the girls I go with'!! My tea was coming out of my nose, I laughed so hard at that one. You rascal.

      Thanks Dean, I think it is beyond cool. We used to use aluminum or phenolic plates to separate the carb back in the day, before reed plates were common. We adapted 32 mm Amal carbs to 100 cc Super Rats. Man those bikes would run. Well nothing wrong with a little humor I guess, sorry I made you smell your tea buddy. Think I might have some more old tricks for this bike, its great reliving some of this old technology. Thanks for hanging out with me.

    Nice job Dale... I think I would just get a 2 stage clamp on Uni pod air filter before I would alter the frame to adapt an air filter. Excited to see / hear this thing sing!

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  2 года назад +1

      Hi Taylor, Cutting the frame is the last resort for sure. I am playing with some other options, and a lot of suggestions are coming in. I am just not big on pod filters, they work but they need to be enclosed, otherwise your engine gets a pretty steady diet of muddy water. Think we are real close to fire up, so stay tuned, I will save you a seat. Thanks for hanging out with me in the shop.

    Can you do a video on cleaning out rusty tanks I know you have to deal with a bunch.

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  2 года назад

      Yeah, I have done a bunch of them, really not much to it. Pull the petcock, make a plate or use a plastic cap to cover the hole. Fill the tank with Metal Rescue, wait a week, or more depending on how bad. Drain, let dry, best in the hot sun. You're done. I will go into it more in a video as well. Thanks buddy

    Hey Dale; having a great time watching this. Quick question: might a "Y" air channel work on your carb, where there are 2 filters, one on each side of the post, so you wouldn't have to cut it off? A Harley intake manifold comes to mind. (stuff like this makes me want a 3-D printer). Can't wait til you fire that puppy up.

    • @montana2strokeracer

      Hey buddy, that is an interesting solution, I guess I'm not familiar with it, but I'm listening, and will do some investigation of the subject. I had a bunch of old radiator hoses that I am trying to adapt. This project is far from done, so lots of time for suggestions from everyone. I have had several and they keep coming in. I think we are pretty close to fire up, don't need to be fully assembled to do that. So, stay tuned for that one coming up. I too am ready to hear it run, and don't forget the smell.....it will be premix at 40: 1 on Klotz. Wish I could record the smell for you fellas.

    Dale, the aluminum spacer won't affect the reed valve performance in any way?

    • @montana2strokeracer
      @montana2strokeracer  2 года назад

      Hi there, no should have no effect at all. We used to adapt carbs all the time in the day, I remember we were making reed blocks and adapting reed plates from chainsaws back before they were common on bikes. We would make all the parts and adapt 32mm Amal carbs on 100cc Super Rats, man those things would run. It's really all experimental type stuff and there is always success or failure, the fun is doing it. Hey most of the time it works out. Thanks for hanging out in the shop with me.
