Have you been to Ely and checked out the engine house there? They have two Baldwin steam locomotives in the works currently. Their Engine #40, a 1909 4-6-0 ten-wheeler (same year build as SP#18's sister SP #9, albeit as standard gauge) is undergoing a major overhaul. This brief video gives some teaser impressions. Check it out and decide if you want to go there yourself.
The Northern Nevada Railroad was created and operated mainly for mining reasons, although also did freight and passenger service. Today the NNRR operates on a limited schedule a tourist train service. I understand the steam engine is going up the canyon to the Mine at Ruth (which is operating again but is using now truck to haul the ore extract to the Union Pacific train service at Wendover). Diesel engine service the train rides to McGill.
It is truly fun to explore the 56-acre site with its many shops and out building but be advised, if you can, avoid Tuesday's. Every other day of the week, I have been told, all buildings are open and not just the engine house, museum, gift shop and coaches. For train ride schedule check their website.
