Yes use metal you need to cut a peice of wood that fits into the metal ones for 2 reasons. 1 the metal would melt your tire so wood creates a barrier and 2 the wood gives the wheel something to grip better so it hold on 100 % of the time
I use cutting boards! They slide great and they’ll give you like 3 runs if you position it right. I think people kind of over look them as a good option. You can also use small wood planks if you’ve got slightly more horsepower, that will last you a long time, like 4+ runs on smooth pavement
My car only has 96 horsepower (toyota echo) and wood works perfectly fine for me. I was doing donuts around a pole, good times. I probably got like 10 to 15 minutes or so out of the wood I used. If you go to home depot and go towards the back, they usually have a cart of warped wood for 70% off. Only cost me like $3 for enough wood for like 3 runs.
The best ones I've used are the "trays" that the 2liter bottles come in at grocery stores. Find them out back of the store, put them next to a curb and back up onto them since it's a 3-4" lip. The car sits so high on them that it takes a while to wear them down.

I've been told a car with power windows, power locks, power steering and such, would have less horsepower than a car with all its electronics stripped out. I'm talking stock b16 to stock b16. The only difference is electronics unplugged.

Make skids out of the rear wheels with cutting board bottoms and get like 5 cars setup to race around a course
