This one chokes up us Stepdads. My daughter dedicated this song to me when she was 8 years old. I've been her dad since she was 4 and she's now 15.

And step-kids. I get emotional listening to this thinking about how my dad stepped into my life at 2 years old. It takes a special man to be a stepfather!

My daddy met my mom when I was a few months old. They married and he adopted me. I’m 30 now and still the biggest daddy’s girl. This song always gets to me. He is the best daddy that he didn’t have to be.

This song always chokes me up, because I can totally relate to it. I lost the man I called dad back in 2007. I have to admit that I gave this man hell throughout my teens. I constantly disrespected him. He never faltered though and continued to treat me like I was biologically his. As we were standing in the church on my wedding day, he kissed my forehead, pulled my veil down, and told me I looked stunning. He held out his arm and said, "Are you ready?" All I said was, "Thank you for everything!" I will never forget his response. "You don't have to thank me! That's what daddies do!" ....but he didn't have to!

The line “looking through the glass I think about the man that’s standing next to me” makes the song. The step dad is STILL there. This song is me as the step dad. Our first grandbaby just turned 1 and I’m blessed everyday for that little guy in my life.

31 years ago I married into a four year old son who had his mom wrapped around his little finger just the way he wanted. I was the outsider. Now all these years later I'm the dad of 2 grown sons. My oldest (that 4 year old) told me some time ago, "Dad I don't think I could do what you did. Raise someone else's son."1 I told him I didn't I raised MY sons
My first granddaughter is due in January. My sons are good men

The man I call dad...well "Pop", married my mom just before I turned 3. He has went on to his mansion in the sky now. He taught me more than I realized while he was teaching me. When I was about to get married, he asked me who was going to be my best man. I was like, I hope the best man is going to be my best man. "Pop, you're the best man". That was the only time I almost saw Pop cry. He held it back, but the moment was priceless. I have many faults, but I am a great dad, and I owe it all to the man that didn't have to be! I love you Pop!

This was my husband, he raised my daughter as his own. Adopted her when her biological dad shunned her and couldn't wait to stop his $5.00 a week support. He recently passed and to this day she honors him calling him Dad and celebrating fathers day even after his death. She was 3 now she's 42

This song holds a special place in my heart. My son and I met when he was 8 months old I was 30. His mom and I are divorced now I have custody because of poor choices by mom. My son and I were in the garage changing motor oil he plays this song on his phone for me. I couldn't hold back the tears. To me I'm the luckiest man and so grateful to have have him in my life! The best gift I have received in my life is hearing the words..I love you Dad! I still get emotional hearing these words❤

He is teaching him so much and they've only been married a month. I love that man too for what he's doing for my Camo and my baby girl. (Camo is my grandsons nickname)

When my parent met , my mom had 4 kids , I'm the only kid they had together . Not once did my dad ever refer to them as step children. He raised them just as they were his own. My brother always said, the term stepfather means , a real man steps in and does what the father suppose to do and be .

True story: I was Brad Paisley's driver when he was in Huntsville, AL (a little before he got real famous). He asked me to take him to the local GNC for some vitamins. I asked his how he could walk around in public like we were doing (in a mall). I said, "Don't people recognize you?" He said, "Yea, everyone recognizes me, but they think I'm Jeff Gordon!" .. True story.

    🤟🏽🇺🇸
I tear up every time I hear this song! It brings me back 12 yrs when by daughter was 13 and her Christmas present to me was a stack of papers, confused at first I read the first page I love my stepdad, second page “ I don’t want you to be him!” A little hurt went to page 3, “YOU ARE MY BEST FRIEND AND MY REAL DADDY, PLEASE MAKE IT LEGAL”. I broke the F***** down! I’m a no nonsense “spare the whip spoil the child” type of parent and thoughts he kinda hated me for it but she appreciated that I treated her exactly like my biological twin boys. When she graduated law school last year she thanked me and said she would still be lost like most of her old friends if I hadn’t shown her what it takes to be a man as well as taught her “quite blatantly” what men/boys think and what it means to be a high value woman…. Like her mom, my amazing wife!!
Great reaction as always! My wife and I love you two!

My folks divorced when I was 10. Mom seemed to make poor choices in men as I got older(either physically or mentally abusive). Not a one did what this song infers. But Dad on the other hand, married a woman that had 1 son of her own. And she never treated my sis and I any different than her own. She may not be blood, but she'd shed hers to protect me. And she'll always be Mom to me.

This guts me every time. This year my now-adult children gave my husband a husband a gift engraved:
“Thank You for being the Dad you didn’t have to be. You didn’t give us life, but life gave us you.”
Being a stepparent is such an incredibly difficult road to walk at times. Heck, if you’re Christian & think about it… Joseph was the first to selflessly take it on lol😉😊😇 Kudos to all those who make the choice to do the same with a full heart of love & commitment!!!❤️

Asia is right, it is not just men. My wife stepped in and raised a 4 and 1 year-old as her own after their mother walked out of our lives. Her unexpected death 4 years ago at, 47 years of age and after 26 years of marriage, crushed my oldest son almost as much as it did me. We all thought we had so much more time.

I would hope that I could do at least half as well as your late wife (so sorry, she sounds like a very amazing woman) if I was ever blessed with the chance to raise children I didn’t give birth to. I would hope that in the end I would do such a good job that the child/children would miss me just like I was their biological mother & miss/love me the same way.
I think that having children are a blessing but even more so when you lose the love of your life & are able to see that beloved person’s influence in your children as a way that person lives on in your children. I don’t think my dad would have gotten through losing my mom so tragically when she was still really young.
Again my best wishes to you & I’m so sad for your loss, she sounds like a truly wonderful woman/mother etc. that you were blessed with 26 wonderful years with, I wish you never had to go through that in the first place. Best wishes to you & your family. 💐

My dad was one of the men who took on this roll. My mom had five children from a previous marriage. They knew eachother in high school but each went separate ways but met up again years later and started dating. He helped raise my brothers and sisters and then I came along. My sister couldn't wait to call him dad. My oldest brother took awhile to call him dad, but one day he was doing his homework and said "dad, can you help me with this?" My dad was so happy! My father has since passed away but my brother said something during his eulogy that sticks with us all to this day. He said he learned how to be a father to his kids from one and learned what not to do from the other. He was talking first of our dad and then his dad. It's very rare to hear of a man who loved a woman so much that he loved my brothers and sisters as if they were his own. This song is amazing!

I appreciate you guys doing this song. The man that I proudly called my dad passed away may of 2016. And this has always been our song. A month before he passed away I had my 30th birthday and it was a surprise karaoke party. I actually had my mom call my dad in the room and I sang this song while looking at him. And he started crying. We played it during his celebration of life ceremony and I fell apart. I still really enjoy listening to this song.

As a teen they played this song at my Grandfathers funeral. I did not understand why until I became an adult. The man married my Grandmother whom already had 5 kids (3 girls 2 boys). I was never aware that he was not biologically my Grandfather, but I can say he was an incredible man, and you could not ask for a better Grandfather. I can't listen to this song without crying now that I understand why it was played at my Grandfathers funeral. It takes a special kind of person to marry into a...pre-made family and be positive about it with love and not hate. Great reaction.

O absolutely love this song. Had never heard it, had no idea what it was about but its a tear-jerker in a happy way!! That little boy talking about knowing his mother was lonely- putting it on himself that guys saw him and ran. Thats alot on a child. But the difference on his face over something so simple as being included when they all went on the date to rhe movies just changed everything for him! And to see that even while theyre dating that good man is spending time with that boy - not only dating the mother but playing ball in the yard. It just gets you to see the joy on that little biys face. And when he overhears that proposal!! Rhe fact that rather than feel possessive or upset - hes praying shell say yes!!" So sweet!! When he say they went from sonethings missing to a family - it just shows the difference skmeone can make. Even if its not this situation : it, like asia said coukd be a woman stepping in to mother a stepchild, it could be adoptive parents, fister families or even volunteering for big brothers...that give a child that extra he needs to feel like he has a family. And of course that clever heat gripping line - someday i hope im half the dad, that he didnt have to be!! Then your just gone!! Such a great song!! And BJ - if i understood correctly and you stepped up in a similar situation - good for you man! Hats off to you!! And the world needs more men like you!!

I remember hearing this song years ago and thinking that it was touching. As the years went on I’d forgotten about it but hearing it now after being in the life of a wonderful little 8 year old for the past five years, I’m bawling like a big baby. lol

Missed the live and also late commenting, but this song always brings me to happy tears. I am the single mom in this video and met my husband of 23 years now when my, now our, daughter was 13 months old. I left her bio father, who I prefer to call her “donor”, when I was 3 months pregnant. He only saw her 10 times during those 13 months, and all 10 visits were initiated by me. When I knew that things were serious between me and my now husband, which happened within a month, I told her donor about it out of respect, his exact words were “let him be her father”, and that’s exactly what happened. He, meaning my husband, is the only dad she’s ever known because her donor never made one attempt to see her after that, and she has no desire to ever meet him. I thank God every single day that he was, and still is, the dad he didn’t have to be! Also, great reaction to this beautiful song!

This hits me a little different my fiance not only helped my 2 children but now has also taken on my sisters kids with me. One is 11 and the other is 4 today. And we have had them since little babies. We are mom and dad to them!
Shout out to the men, women, aunts, uncles, grandparents (I was raised by mine) and anyone else who steps up and steps in! #lovethebabies

This song makes me think of my grandpa. This song describes him perfectly. My grandma was a single mom of 4 in the 60s and he stepped in like he had found his place in life. I learned so much about hlwho I want to be in life from him.

My dad married my mom when I was five years old, and he took on four children that were not his! What an amazing man and how blessed we are! Mom passed away close to seven years ago now. And my dad is still around! He is our dad, not a step dad!

Oh I just LOVE yalls reaction to this song, it is very rare to find someone that will love a child that isn’t biologically their own and when u do find that person, it is special….Brad Paisley has a way of putting the most beautiful words together and his songs are so deep, I remember y’all doing Whiskey Lullaby with him and Alison Krauss
Could ya PLEASE squeeze in one more Brad song? It’s called “She’s everything” BJ u will really like this one cuz I can tell it’s the perfect wording for how u feel about Asia!!!! Adore u guys and love ur channel!!!!

My son stepped up to be a father to a little boy -Aydin- the real father left him just before he was born. But my son is a great father to him. And also my son found out that he could not have kids but since he did so well taking care of him when he didn't have to, I think God smiled down on them because they're going to have my last grandbaby!!♥️ That will be number 23. Yes 23 grandkids and I love each and every one of them just as much as if they were all really mine. I hope this makes sense to you all. I'm excited and over the moon that they're finally going to have their own baby together also! And Aydin is happy to be having a little sister!!🥰 So this song just means a lot to me! Thank you Brad Paisley for a wonderful song! 🤗 Happy Father's Day to all the ones that stepped up to the plate and took care of little ones! ✅

My son is 24. He’s not mine biological. I never adopted him. His CB mother and I divorced when he was 12. I stayed his dad and still took care of him. I’ve never been more proud than to see him as a 24 year old responsible man. Even though his mother hadn’t been there here for him. He still calls me dad. He is still my son.

This is such a great song and Brad Paisley has plenty. My other favorites of his are Part Two, Then, Remind Me (with Carrie Underwood), Letter To Me, Ticks, I Wish You’d Stay, Who Needs Pictures, I’ve Been Better, and Holdin’ On To You.

The hardest part about dating a single parent, is having to fall in love with more than one person at a time, but the easy part, is that with a parent, there's a built in capacity for love and if you're oriented that way, it's the easiest, most natural thing in the world.
I love my girlfriend and my( unbio) daughter; she asked if she could call me dad and I was actually excited.

My dad (biological) married my mother even though she was a single mom. He took all of my older siblings as his own... I learned a lot from him growing up to include that family doesnt have to be just about DNA.. it was about love and inclusion. When he died, my older brother was just as crushed as I was and always called dad even during the terrible teenage years. My second marriage was to a single mom and I think my dad for setting that example for me to follow.
