I was a janitor for a while (though thankfully not in a school), and I'm devastated I didn't know this song back then! I would have sung it at all times.
One of the janitors in my middle school would always ask me what direction North was when he saw me. Thanks to that I always know which direction is which from inside a building.
The janitor at my high school was the cool guy everybody could talk to, not someone who was pitied or under appreciated. I think it has to do with your attitude: every job can have dignity if you stay positive, and this guy did.
There's no reason why a job has no dignity unless the position is merely corrupt... WIth that said, my dad was a national account manager at AT&T for 33 years (taking early retirement in the early 1990s). After working there, he worked as a janitor ("custodian") for several schools in the school district I grew up with. Yes, it earned him a second pension (and served both my mom and dad after he retired from that, and inevitably for mom when he passed in 2014). My father enjoyed his years working as a custodian for he enjoyed chatting and goofing around with the children, while taking time to read to them and teach life lessons. He never mentioned his credentials from when he worked for ATT with many of the teachers that worked there. Some snubbed him (not knowing who he was), but he took pleasure in their foolishness. Anyway, he was well loved and respected by both faculty and students at the schools he worked at, much so that when he passed, many came and paid their respect to him. Oh, and back to lighter things, I'm sure my dad would've gotten a kick out of this song!
I knew all the janitors at my school and church. They worked hard and gave us great places to learn. Mr. Anderson always had funny jokes every morning for us.
This is so clearly meant for Joel, this was right after he left, plus it would have made more sense since Joel was a janitor originally, Mike was a temp, still funny though
I am not a janitor! We are called Custodians now lol. I am a high school custodian and I played this for my whole crew we got some good laughs out of it.
Oh my god...that was AMAZING! I didn't know Mike could sing so well! Unless he was somehow exaggerating or something... the song reminded me of the food song from "Oliver"
This song is pretty true in some aspects... I mean, it's odd how the janitors always got more respect than the teachers in the schools I went to... Then again, we were blessed with wise, sagacious janitors.
@roguepeal1 Thank you for the trivia. :) At first, I thought the Rep. Party must have been completely forgetful in dubbing Joe the Plumber, but according to Wikipedia, his middle name, at least, is Joe (Joseph). Maybe McCain was actually thinking back to the old commercials when he coined (supposedly) the nickname...
After Joel leaves they change the theme (obviously) and that's Mike singing. I don't know, but it was probably Joel originally (can't find any info about that).
That 3 part section they split off into at the end is just *chef's kiss*

This song is why I respect all the janitors in my school.
+Jane B Nowadays they're replaced with the typical cop patrolling the cafeteria these days.
Christopher Sobieniak Yeah
Jane B I miss my school days two decades ago when that was still a thing!
Janitors breaking up fights always happened.
Same 😅
I'm a high school Janitor and I sing song every once in a while.

Thank you, Corvus. We keep tossing this link up for the Rifftrax Twitch chat when we get a janitorial short, of which there are a disturbing number.

Keith Clingan church?
LOVE THIS SONG SO CATCHY
I hope you liked our presentation,
Now back to Deep Thirteeeeeeeen,
What do you think, sirs?
My middle school janitor looked exactly like him, just slightly curly blond hair.
irony of ironies, Joel should have sung this...he was a janitor at Gizmonic Inst, right?
That weird moment when I'm watching this video during Thanksgiving break.
"Thanks a lot, Mike! Frank was swaying to your little song and got sick! How sick? There, that's your breakfast for the next three days!"
Respectable voice. It’s not quite Kevin Murphy quality, but not bad.
*This will be the best thanksgiving break ever!*

But wasn't Mike the janitor in Earth vs the Spider?
He didn't steal no bike neither!
It'd be great to hear Neil Flynn sing this.
How could anyone give this a thumbs down?
Apparently, there are 4 pissed off janitors.
He sings it for free.

Honestly, this is seriously good art.

=D one of the MST3K's best songs, ever!
@dididiiproductions I never though of that, but you're so right!
@Tareltonlives also he has the endorsement of josephine the plumber! (yeah, yeah, I know, totally unrelated).
Yeah, you know that's him singing the opening song?
My friend thinks this is a kid show...
thats wierd considering the mentioning of porn.
I guess it's because MST3K has puppets, so she thinks it's for kids :/
"I WAS TOO, AT A FEDERAL AGENCY BACK EAST."
SO touching. ;_;
o7
hmmm... maybe they got the idea for the Janitor in scrubs from this? they definatly have a musical episode
I sing this in Space Station 13, I change a few words but it works well.
I'm a janitor!
He's the best Republican I know! Sure, why not?
🥹
Why does this probably remind of its over isint from Steven universe
once dated Josephine the Plumber... is this a reference to Joe the Plumber? I thought was waay before Joe's 15 mins...o_O
