Best characters
Anyone else think the designs for the angels is cool? Not just a bunch of winged humans but strange otherworldly beings. And if you’re a fan of the classics (Dante’s trilogy, paradise lost) you probably had a lot of “oh I get what that is!” Moments.
I like they chose to make the majority of angels biblically accurate. And even the ones that aren't get to show off their features when they are agitated enough (Sera later shows eyes on her wings). I appreciate the creative freedom to keep the speaking angels more humanoid, cuz it would be a bit obnoxious to have characters talk to a ball of eyes and wings.
I like the angels better in looks and personality. Adam also has the best song and Lute's a bad b. The demons have been overdone in media too much they are bland now. Only demons I like is Carmilla, Charlie, Vaggie and Zestial probably because they're different from the stereotypes that are being made on demons now.
@@hellboy19991 Plus it kinda blurs the line between angels and demons since we've also seen Alastor, Charlie, and later Lucifer too, show a FAR more inhuman-appearing side of their own appearance when their emotions are flaring up too. (All three being very powerful individuals, though we do occasionally see lesser signs of the same thing with weaker characters, like the spots under Angel Dust's eyes becoming extra eyes to complete the spider vibe when he's pissed off.)
I like how they focus on how Angel Dust is the one improving as a person. But he's not the first on who gets to go the heaven

Sir Pentious was always protrayed as the flashy nobody
Alastor refusing to learn his name, the Vs telling him to off himself, and being a very weak link in combat
Sir Pentious blends into the background of the more competent characters, resulting in his redemption being a shock for everyone, even the audience
He was initially at the hotel for Vox pretending to try and improve but became the first to genuinely try
I am now dying for season 2 to learn how redemption works

My theory, Sera is keeping the chair warm for someone else, who that person is, not a clue, God, some spirit of Goodness, Creator of Heaven and the Angels, whoever or whatever, THAT is who is really in charge, but for whatever reason they’re not currently present in Heaven, so Sera is in charge just by default, trying to keep everything from falling apart and forced to make horrid decisions because she can’t think of anything else. Add a bit of fear into the mix and we get a REALLY potent cocktail of a leader who is simply NOT ready.
“Do what was required.” She believed what she was doing was necessary for the stability of Heaven and keeping everyone, Emily included, safe.
Glad Sir Pentious got dropped in her living room to show her just where her actions have led, hopefully she’ll start looking at things differently.

Sera is incredibly creepy when we see the reflection of the flames in her eyes. It shows she is just as much a monster as Adam and the Exorcists

Well it’s interesting because Seraphim’s are made to “protect heaven with a fiery passion”. So I think this was an inflection of that.
I would have to respectfully disagree. She is not acting out of malice, sadism, or even arrogance; rather her decisions are driven by fear. It does not excuse her decisions, but it does make her different from Adam.

@@Zenex4504 those are just masks, but yea, I think that was a deliberate design choice, a small irony to make them appear just as monstrous if not more so, than the demons their being sent to slay.
As for Sera, I understand WHY she made this decision, Fear can make someone do the most UNSPEAKABLE and TERRIBLE things. It doesn’t excuse her, but she’s not as bad as Adam who actually REVELS in the slaughter. Still, I have concerns for Sera moving forward, as a wise little Green Monk once said, “Fear is the path of the Dark Side.”
3:06 YO! crazy detail I just noticed, Vaggie's angelic shadow is superimposed in exactly the right position over the wall art behind Charlie to make the wall art's sadistic smile and eyes look like her own.
Of all the times I've seen this, I didn't pick out that Charlie had gone deamon mode when Adam got in her face.

My guess for season 2 is going to be that Emily is going to be the third fallen angel. She is pretty much doing what Lucifer got kicked out of heaven for in Dantes Divine Comedy. I also hope Sera is getting a bit more of an active role, right now she has only been low-key two-faced and racist towards demons. Like when she welcomed Charlie to heaven she said something like "you're pleased to be here" which while, duh is some veiled racism that can be unnoticed or dismissed as an error.
I think the line was “You are Gifted to be here.” Which probably should have been “WE are gifted to have YOU here.” Yea tripped me up too first time I heard it, coulda sworn it was a mistake the first time around, then we get to the court scene and I was like, oh no, she meant every word of that.
I do feel like Sera is at least a better person than Adam, the fact she keeps the Exterminations a secret from the rest of Heaven shows she’s ashamed of the decision, which suggests at least subconscious regret and doubt. Meanwhile Adam REVELS in the slaughter, not even caring when he lets the secret slip. None of this excuses Sera of course, and she very clearly sees demons as “unworthy”, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this attitude of hers has something to do with Lucifer’s fall, as during the Lore dump at the start of episode 1, we see an angelic figure similar to Sera among the council of angels, suggesting she was active in the council when Lucifer was banished… perhaps Sera held a torch for Lucifer, only for him to then fall in love with Lilith, and as Lilith became the mother of demons, I can see Sera taking issue with Demon kind as a result…
would also explain that slightly loaded sentence to Charlie upon her arrival too, I mean, if you loved someone, only for them to go off with someone else and even have a kid with that person, wouldn’t you be more than slightly irritated when that kid shows up on your doorstep?

My favorite part of this song is when charlie and emily start singing in sync side by side. Two sides of the same coin.
Weird thing I noticed, when Adam lets slip about the exterminations he looks genuinely nervous and like he knows he fucked up, and tries to down play it to Emily, but Lute still looks confident and cocky.

@toemato77 Adam has sins which is genocide, profanity. But, just as Charlie and Emily said, "if hell is forever, then heaven must be a lie, if angels can do anything and remain in the sky" implying that angels stay in the sky even when they commit sins. We saw Sir Repentious get his redemption by fixing all his sins and going from Hell to Heaven, but Adam might have the opposite effect of redemption, and going to Hell instead.
Tbh, he is FORCED to do so because of his contract. He doesn't even seem to enjoy it "every night I'm wasted like there's no tomorrow". He even stopped being a creep to Husk as soon they were on good terms.

Not when it started, as ethnic cleansing involves the complete removal of said ethnic group. Up until the extermination in the events of the finale, the goal was population control, not genocide. Still horrible and insanely dark though.

I had a thought. What if “God” is either Heaven itself. Or is simply Divine Judgement. Like a force of goodness to judge how people get into Heaven. As not even Sera the highest of the Seraphim know exactly. Adam was just guessing based off likely his or others in heaven’s behavior that got to heaven.

I hate Adam in Hazbin Hotel they ruined him turned Adam into a complete asshole I hate him in this show so much.
Ruined him? He was never a good person, that’s his entire character. Unless you’re talking about him in the bible, which makes less sense considering this show is very clearly not a one-to-one representation of hell and heaven in Christianity. Frankly, I hate how people keep saying that Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss “ruined” characters just because it turned out they didn’t match perfectly with everyone’s head canons. Just because you think a character is one way does not mean the show is obligated to fit with that view.
