probably yeah, genuine people actually want to meet someone who lives relatively close to them, even if it's just for a quick hook up or just to get someone to buy them dinner. The likelihood of forming a genuine relationship with someone who lives thousands of miles away is extremely low.

Someone ask.me if I was afraid to live alone now, I said no, I got guns, keep a pistol on the arm of my recliner covered with a cloth, easy to get to, I'll protect me & my dog.. end of story..

They say they have friends in Nigeria who are great people, who work in the health field and that there is good and bad everywhere you go.

Am a Nigerian, live in Nigeria. Please be careful even with skype. The scam "industry" in Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa is huge- many times they lie about their location, and manipulate it using apps. They Pay white to appear on skype. These con artists are fine tuning their wicked acts everyday. The bottom line is DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANY ONE ON A DATING SITE. Why must you send money, why not the other way round. Forget their stories, they are simply after money. Please be careful .
Usually when a scammer is trying to fake a Skype/Hangouts/Messenger live video and audio conversation, he/she wait til the last second, til you are connected, to let you know that their microphone doesn't function.
That means that it isn't possible to hear the voice of the person you are connected with. That also means that the video you are seing is a stolen prercorded video.
If you are unsure, ask the person to put her/his hands on her/his ears or do something other lik showing you the "V" with her/his hand. If he/she can do that, then it is live.
If he/she start talking about that you don't trust him/her, then he/she is a faker, disconnect.
I have done this several times. It is boring now.

They use other methods, such as interception of payment. I live in Oklahoma, and have to pay child support in Texas, which means at any given time a scam ring can hack moneygram, which they have a scam ring nest already implanted inside it. They can steal money from unsuspecting victims, and unfortunately i have reason to believe that this last time i was a victim and am now not only spreading my experience, but also trying to figure out what to do next.
Dealing with a family member who thought they were playing a scammer but somehow it turned into a relationship despite all the red flags. She still sent him money and continues to talk to him. She's been pinning African engagement ring pictures and I hope she isn't trying to actually marry a guy who she literally only "knows" because he tried to scam her posing as a widower military member.

Don't rely on just 1 picture of someone who looks attractive. Have them send many pictures. For example, tell them to send you a picture of them pinching there ears or making a funny face😋. They can claim to be someone else, more likely an attractive person like a model just to get your attention. Also, tell them you want to share all those pictures with there Facebook friends, the more the better,😀👍

People nowadays are really just so stupid I personally can't stand the computer.. I try to meet people the old fashion way.. at least I can get a good look at them right up front in front of me. Does it mean I'm not going to get scammed no it just means the person's a little bit more accessible to me. I think it's pretty pathetic that people pray on people that are just looking for companionship and love it seems pretty sad that nowadays you pretty much can't trust anybody and it's very sad.. but I do wish everyone well and I'm so sorry for all the people that got conned and fell for the stuff go out and have fun with somebody in person and get to know them.. and if they're hiding something such as being married you'll know pretty soon if you can never see their apartment or their house there's a lots of signs just keep looking and don't let love get in the way.

Colleen You have said it all..if you really pay attention to small details you can easily tell when someone is lying. They will be a lot of inconsistencies along the way. And repeating questions you have asked months ago can also be a good way to note if you are going to get the same answer.

These scammers are not committing small crimes, they are more or less taking people's lives by taking their life savings. The punishment for these scammers ought to be a lot more serious than just a few years, like their entire lives.

They post ads on Craigslist for people to accept packages, as well as to be a financial agent and "print" their Fake checks!
I also scammed by a nigerian. He promised thay they will send the package of gadgets that i was ordered to them . And it will never arrive. I finally found out that after all i send 800dollars for the shipment fee. Aside from that he used other number for the delivery man, he said he cannot deliver coz i didn't pay for the delivery charge,i said its already comes with the payment ive done and he said no , he will not deliver the goods coz i didn't pay the delivery charge, and he ask me also for international buyers ID card and i pay for it and he said ,he will send to my email but i never recieved. Please CNBC help me, i hope ,my money come back to me . I have the list of people that i send the money . Im in jeddah saudi arabia right now.

I have been scammed several times before and quite recently by people whom I have never met in my life including some of my own friends and family members such that its hard for me to trust anybody when it comes down to trying to get some money.
I got an email claiming there was an unclaimed inheritance.....I. Said yippeer send a bank check to my addressed so I can cash it......never contacted me again!!!! Stay sharp people?!!!!!!

The package had invitation letter ,gold,clothes many rubbish I was told to pay thousands to clear I ask him to pay he said mmmmm company does not allow me to send money out of country I can loose contract fake engineer ,plane housing road us he everything with beginning has it own end.

XoX YoY: Someone attempted something similar with me. It wasn’t “dating-related”, it was “job-related”. I responded to the ad (from a reputable job site). Next-thing-I-know the prospective employer (pseudo employer) sent me a $5000 draft that they wanted me to send back to the company (pseudo company) by BITCOIN. Really?! Bottom-line, we need to be REALLY careful. Stay safe.🙏

I was always a natural at the game since I was in middle school. But I decided not to pursue scamming because it's spiritually degrading and you won't evolve. I couldn't bear to hurt the innocent.

There are just a lot who are very lonely to fall for some stranger they befriend in the internet. This goes as far as when the internet was introduced. I worked in a bank (now retired) and saw a lot of movements within accounts. though we contact the owner of xxx account when a transaction is not quite regular a customer would request. we went by it since it's signed by the account holder and we even called to confirm. transfers went on for quite sometime until we (our bank) received Inter office circulars warning of such frauds. We sent notices to ALL our account holders including xxx customer. He closed the account sometime after and saw that xxx was distraught and wouldn't tell us (front line tellers at that time) He was too proud or ashamed that he was cheated out of his money.

Look, I understand people wanting to have companionship. That inherent need in people often blinds them what should be recognized as someone using them. When someone gives one excuse after another as to why they can’t seem to meet up with you in person, that should be a big fat red flag.
