Good video, and nicely explained. I appreciate the admission to the rookie mistake, however, this is all natural when going through an excercise for the first time. It helps the viewers understand the challenges of doing this job. I have seen Elsawin extract of how to do this and curious if the VW tools are really necessary as mentioned below (T40094/T40096).
Hello, I broke the bolt that holds the cylinder with the clamp. What is the name of that bolt and if it can be removed without disassembling the engine?
You mention ARP stud swap after OEM bolts removed. What part# did you use?? My project- 2014 Passat CKRA-TDI, replaced head gasket after 300k miles, w/valve job. Wrong head gasket and I’m tired of single use bolts. Plus need the strength for Stage3 malone tune Ive been running for a few years.
Honestly don't remember. But I do recall it was a chore to find the right size. Take a stock head bolt, measure, and then reference against the the ARP chart.
There is no adjustment with the hydraulic lifters. However, if you are running aftermarket cams and other hardware, the proper engine math is necessary. I had to cut the exhaust valve spring pockets some and slightly trim the valve stems to accommodate the higher lift cams I was using.
Spring loaded two-piece camshaft sprocket (the one on the table) requires special tool T40096. Without the tool there is a big risk that bearings are damaged and complete head must be renewed. Great video though, thanks for that. If everything is done by the book, you need also toolsets T40094 and T40096.
That tool is 500 bucks! They claim it's to prevent axial play but as long as u get the cams timed correctly and torque the cam bridge correctly, it really shouldn't be an issue. It's ok to use your brain and not use "special tools"!
thanks for the video. I have a ticking noise coming from my engine when it’s cold. When the the engine has a bit of temperature it’s very difficult to notice. 2.0 CFGB. Any known issues?
Thank you for the upload. Any chance you could let me know what the tighten torque of the camshaft cap is? Or the Girdle as is otherwise known. Please and thanks.
Not sure as I've never worked on those, but I'd guess it would be essentially the same. Take the valve cover off. Rotate the engine to top dead center and verify what it looks like before disassembly.
Black RTV. Can be found at any auto parts store. You need to be careful how you apply it, and not too much so you don't plug any of the oil ports to the camshaft.
If you are after big power and want to up the rail pressure, you will require remapping. It's tricky and took some doing to get rid of a pressure oscillation I had. I still have the lift pump in the tank, but have deleted the auxiliary pump.
So simple when you know. Thanks bud. You saved me lots of time and effort.

Great video. I'm also finding that there's not a huge amount of information on these CR TDIs yet. Thanks for thinking about us☺
Thanks for watching
Great video, tons of useful information.
Nice video very helpful and well explained thank you sir
Thanks! I have a few Questions. Im about to attempt this and i have conflicting info.
nice video, why do you change to arp studs? running higher boost and thinner headgasket?
Thank you so much for the help 🙂

In your opinion was the upgrade worth doing for the cost of these new parts?
@@colin5064 If I built it again, it would be a CP3 pump, injectors and a 2260 turbo.

Have you adjusted your valves? Would it be necessary to adjust valves on a stock head tdi with higher miles?

Hi what is the nm for the cam cage bolts and the sequence ?

Honda motorcycles use those style of gear silencers.
With them you can easily snap the cam if you do not align the silencer teeth on re assembly
So thats the only reason for the tool? so you can align the two-piece camshaft?
So useful video cheers buddy
Thank you so much for this!!!! Thank you!!!
Thanks for this. Could you tell me where you got the stud kit?
thanks for the video. I have a ticking noise coming from my engine when it’s cold. When the the engine has a bit of temperature it’s very difficult to notice. 2.0 CFGB. Any known issues?
Possibly rockets
Tight the injector older, very gentle, Don't break the bolt, use torque range, if snapped, that is very big job then

@@tvanc542 thank you for getting back to on that👍
How did thqt timing trick with the cams go? Prior to pulling mine out, vac side cam was not square to head but never had any issues.
No issues.
Thanks a lot, is it Same for 3 cylinder 1.2 tdi also.
Not sure as I've never worked on those, but I'd guess it would be essentially the same. Take the valve cover off. Rotate the engine to top dead center and verify what it looks like before disassembly.
Yes it's same and only 1 cylinder is less.
What sealant did you use between the two surfaces?
Black RTV. Can be found at any auto parts store. You need to be careful how you apply it, and not too much so you don't plug any of the oil ports to the camshaft.
Thank you, good job
Olá tudo bem ? Gostei do seu canal que carro é este do video ?
Hola. Thanks for checking me out. The car is alive and doing well in a stable condition. It is a CJAA engine code in a 2014 Jetta sportwagen.
Are you able to tell me what the torque setting is for the cam locking plate? The big cover that locks the cams in (10mm bolts)
6 ft/lbs. How bout a like and subscribe? Thanks!
tvanc542 brilliant thank this vid is life saver
Thank you for sharing
Thanks for the video!
How's the cp3 working? Did you have to remap according to the cp3 parameters or cancel lift pump?
If you are after big power and want to up the rail pressure, you will require remapping. It's tricky and took some doing to get rid of a pressure oscillation I had. I still have the lift pump in the tank, but have deleted the auxiliary pump.
tvanc542 thanks. Waiting to see the rebuild :D
Can the cam girdle be left on top of the cylinder head if removing the cylinder head itself?
@@TheMxrrab yes if the cams are locked at TDC and you are using the stock head bolts.
@ awesome good to know.
What Nm ?
I sent there a timing toolkit for this engine ?
Yes.
