That looks like a 6yd skip. Overloaded with rubble you're looking at about 6-7ton. That truck is rated as 7.5t gross MAXIMUM weight. Realistically, it could carry a 0.5t 6yd skip with approx 3t payload...maybe.
Thus wasn't even close to viable. A "good" skip wagon driver would've taken one look at it and politely told their boss to fuck off.
I'm guessing boss tried to save a few quid by having this lad come collect a skip and hoped it would've been filled with something light like garden waste.

The controls are on the truck. They went out of his reach when the truck went up so he tried to hold onto them. You wouldn't be able to lower the truck back down unless you climb up to reach the control panel. Some newer trucks have detachable control panels so you can operate from a safe distance and also have a better view of what you are unloading.
