I just purchased a new Goldwing and sure enough, I had this problem. I found your video and applied the fix and WALA it now working perfectly. Thanks Brother for the video.
I learned something today for all 2018+ Goldwing owners. The latch isn't broken, you just have to press it on the right side vs. in the middle to get it to pop open. Bad design if you ask me but figured it out with my dealer when mine wouldn't open at all lol. Now it opens great just press on the right side of the big button.
Used your fix earlier today. Works perfect. Only difference is I used the washer from the other latch post. Still works great. Have to admit, you know how to intelligently analyze a problem and arrive at the smart fix. Thanks.
If you get a chance, grab a few small washers at the Home Depot. The washers have a bigger diameter than the head of the screw. The washers top out against the housing to keep the button level at the surface. It's possible the left side of your button is sticking up above the surface of the door now.
I thought I would have to deal with this bad design by pushing on the right side of the release button. I completed the fix last week, and it works perfect now, thanks for helping us Wing riders with poor Honda engineering.
Max McAllister let me know when it become available, a $20 lock prevents the theft of a $1000 phone.......what was Honda thinking......oh I am crazy, I have a 6” and 1.5” JIS screw drivers...
Nice fix....for such a nice bike I'm amazed at all of the little bullshit things that are halfass on this bike. I love it for the most part but some things on it really surprise me. My paint finish is horrible. My dealer completely sucks and I refuse to even set foot in the place again after the way I was treated after I purchased it. I probably need to write Honda about it. I'll do this fix this weekend, Thanks Max!
Im probably alone in this thinking, but i like the fact this console latch doesnt release unless you know the trick. After all, it doesnt lock and thats where we put our cell phone !
My airbag model doesn't have that cubby, but one annoying thing it does do, is the buildup of white ugly residue around the handlebar switches after getting wet, or caught in the rain. After a ride I recently took to California and back from Indiana, they were so dirty I was dismayed. Really hard to clean, too.
Hello Max, I enjoy your videos a lot, thank you, My 2018 DCT has an air bag where this catch is and obviously does not move until, well Id rather not say, but have you any insight into a problem that started some months ago and now is becoming an issue and its to do with the right hand side fairing pocket from where the filler cap tank lid is unlatched. The fairing pocket release latch does not open the pocket consistently, it takes many fiddlings with the latch to get it to open. Now this is the only way to get to the petrol cap lid release latch which itself is inside the faring pocket, I also noticed on a number of occasions the fairing pocket would open randomly by itself, of course it would close easy enough but now when I want it to open eg when needing to fillup with petrol it doesn't open just when you need it to, please advise
That entire setup is ridiculously over-engineered, and is set up to fail in my opinion. If the right door won't open reliably, I have found that they aren't assembled properly sometimes. The lid isn't installed eight and didn't line up properly. If that's not the case, it can be any number of cables, latches or electronic bits. It should be a Honda Warranty problem.
Max I have a question about the new Goldwing.. On the previous gw model you had to manually lift the front screen. There was no gap between the screen and the front body( where front head light is) it was flush together with no air gap at the bottom of the windscreen. I took a demo ride on the new gw I noticed On the new gw when you raise the wind shield there is an air gap at the bottom of the shield.. where it meet with the body. So big that You can slide your fingers through the new gap. Highway winds get into that gap and it create a wind tunnel humming effect. That new noise makes it harder to hear the radio at highway riding. I think the solution would be to close that gap like the previous Goldwing. So no air goes through the bottom of the screen. Just Up and around. This should quiet the wind noise down on highway rides. Someone should come up with a rubber or plastic adapter to close that gap when the wind shield is in the up position.
That's an interesting idea. You could test this theory by buying a piece of foam insulation for 1/2" copper pipe, and stuff a piece down in the windshield to see what the effect is.
Hey max, can you fix your web site security issues so I can go on and buy some of your parts for my 2018 dct Goldwing. I am getting this error with just your site "Can’t connect securely to this pageThis might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner."Please help and respond. Thank you, Kenny
I have a question, is there supposed to be any "beeps" when pressing the key fob button to lock the bike? I get no sound at all. Also, does the bike have an actual alarm on it that will sound?
No alarm that I know of, could be wrong. I don't recall mine beeping, but I suppose that's probably a user setting on the console. You'll have to dig into the good ol' user's manual...

Glad to help!
I just dabbed a small bit of oil, and that helped alot, but your solution 🤔 is even better. Thanks alot Max.🏍
Glad it helped!

@@Traxxion I watched it. Was a great video! Appreciate it.
Max is very helpful and profesional !!!!!! Excelent job you made for GOLDWING owners comunity !!!!! Congrats!!!!
Much appreciated!

Max McAllister Added a washer back to the left side post. Works a little better. No biggie.

Soon I am going to have a locking button set to replace the factory button.

You’ve fixed two of my bikes problems this week. The loose handlebar nut (IMPACT) and now this. Kuddos to Traxxion Dynamics
My pleasure!
Just picked up a 2018 Non-Tour version this last week. This was a great fix and real easy. Had the 4mm washers here. Perfect. Thanks!
Glad it helped!
Subbed. Solved a problem i got used to dealing with. Just imagine.
Thanks. Will take care of that before it becomes an issue.

Thanks for the fix to an annoying problem!
You're welcome! Check out our new Locking Glovebox Latch!
As always a great video. But..I enjoy the good sense of humour just as much!
I appreciate that!
Hey Max, thanks for the tip. I fixed mine last night when I got home from work. Works much better..
You are welcome!
Hey Max thanks for the great tip. Would you happen to remember what size washers to buy ? Thanks a ton
Thanks Max....fixed my in a couple of minutes. Great videos and products.
this is an important thing to do, come on Honda pay attention!
You'd think....
Nice solution. I got excited at first cause i thought you were going to share a way to lock it.
Lol
Maybe some day... I've had an idea.

Love your videos. Do you do 3rd wheel conversions like California Side car or Roadsmith?
Hi Robert, we haven't gone down that road. There are many expert shops that specialized in that.
Thanks again I'm going into my garage and do this
Max thanks for the info fixed mine in 5 minutes.
I wish they were all this easy!
Thanks Max. I fixed mine that way too, " thanks to you" thanks again.
Your "Quicky" Goldwing Trunk Removal had me a little concerned.. BUT.. this Vid was done well enough that I liked and subscribed..:-)

As Dr. Evil would say: "Rrrrrrrrriiiiiight............."
Does that compartment lock?
No, we are working on a new kit to make it lock. I sold a lock for a while, but it was too fidgety, so I stopped making it.
Thank you!!
