Thank you sir for giving us new knowledge about missionaries role in India. It is very interesting to hear you but you have spoiled in the last saying that everything was done to preach Bible. That was your agenda. No missionary who came here had never an agenda like yours. They were really good Christians. First understand what is Christianity. It is truth as you said which was crucified but rose again on the third day. What is the meaning of mission or missionaries? It has nothing to do with Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism etc. It is to educate, remove poverty, help the needy , which are all humanitarian. Why the missionaries did not come before 16th centuary. Why they accompanied the colonists. Why at that they did not go to Africa. Yes they had agenda? I am sure there were a handful good Samaritans . We are thankful for what they have done . But when the came in the 16th century we were the richest country in the world with 23 of the world total G D P, and when they left in 1947 we were one of the poorest countries in the world with only 6 percent. Now you know the difference and balance is history . Please India is a secular country of peace and harmony. Wealthy were we and time will prove how wealth were looted in the name of faith . God is truth and it is everywhere. Peace be upon all of us . Thank you for your insights to history once more.

Though it is valuable information, on many claims, a non-biased objective study is required. ex. origin of Hindi language?! Any religiously sectarian comments are unhealthy. That will be counter-productive to the mission and vision of those great christian missionaries who shared their life in India mainly to preach the good news..
Objectivity overshadowed by sentiments- This conference is highly influenced by religious motivation , hence is becoming laughable- unfortunately- While there are some truths in what he has learnt, however, that is getting convoluted to declare bible as the book of truth and christian missionaries were here in this land to transform the lives of the locals- He needs to do more research on cause and effect-

നിങ്ങള്‍ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്ന ഈ ഗദ്യം പോലും മിഷണറിമാരുടെ സംഭാവനയാണ്. മലയാള ഭാഷയുടെ ചരിത്രം ഒന്ന് പരിശോധിച്ച് നോക്ക്, എഴുത്തും വായനയും അറിയാമായിരുന്ന ഇന്നാട്ടിലെ സാഹിത്യ തമ്പ്രാക്കന്മാര്‍ പരിഹാസത്തോടെ ‘മിഷണറി ഗദ്യം’ എന്നും ‘പാതിരി മലയാളം’ എന്നും വിളിച്ച് കളിയാക്കിയിരുന്ന ഒരു ഗദ്യശൈലി മലയാള ഭാഷയില്‍ രൂപപ്പെട്ടു വന്നതിന്‍റെ ചിത്രം കിട്ടും. അന്നവരൊക്കെ എഴുതിയിരുന്നത് സംസ്കൃതവും മലയാളവും കൂടിക്കലര്‍ന്ന മണിപ്രവാളഗദ്യത്തിലാണ്. സാധാരണക്കാരന് ഒരക്ഷരം പോലും അത് കേട്ടാല്‍ മനസ്സിലാവില്ല, സംസ്കൃതത്തില്‍ നല്ല നിശ്ചയമുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് മാത്രമേ അത് പിടി കിട്ടൂ. അങ്ങനെയുള്ള കാലഘട്ടത്തില്‍, സാധാരണക്കാര്‍ക്ക് മനസ്സിലാകുന്ന ഗദ്യത്തില്‍- അതായത് ഇന്ന് നമ്മള്‍ ഉപയോഗിച്ച് കൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്ന ഗദ്യത്തില്‍- ആദ്യമായി ഇവിടെ എഴുതിയത് മിഷണറിമാരാണ്. സവര്‍ണ്ണര്‍ പാതിരി മലയാളം എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞ് പരിഹസിച്ചെങ്കിലും സാധാരണക്കാര്‍ അതേറ്റെടുത്തു. അവന്റെ വിഷമങ്ങളും ദുഃഖങ്ങളും സ്വപ്നങ്ങളും പ്രത്യാശകളും അവന്‍ അവന്റെ കൂടെയുള്ളവര്‍ക്കും മനസ്സിലാകുന്ന, മിഷണറിമാര്‍ കൊണ്ടുവന്ന പുതിയ ഗദ്യശൈലിയില്‍ എഴുതി വെക്കാന്‍ തുടങ്ങി. അതോടെ മണിപ്രവാളം മലയാള സാഹിത്യത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് അപ്രത്യക്ഷമായി.
ഇവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നെന്ന് പറയുന്ന ഭാഷ ഏതു തരത്തിലുള്ളതായിരുന്നു? അതിനെക്കുറിച്ച്‌ വല്ല പിടിയുമുണ്ടോ? അന്നത്തെ ചില ഗദ്യമാതൃകകള്‍ തരാം. ആദ്യം കേരളവര്‍മ്മ വലിയ കോയിത്തമ്പുരാന്‍റെ ഗദ്യം:
അസ്തപര്‍വ്വത നിതംബത്തെ അഭിമുഖീകരിച്ചു ലംബമാനമായ അംബുജബന്ധു ബിംബത്തില്‍ നിന്നും അംബരമധ്യത്തില്‍ വിസൃമരങ്ങളായി ബന്ധുകബന്ധുരങ്ങളായ കിരണ കന്ദളങ്ങള്‍ ഹിമാലയ മഹാഗിരിയുടെ തുംഗപരമ്പരകളുടേയും, ബദരീനാഥക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്‍റെയും, അദഭ്രശുഭ്രകളായ ഹിമസംഹതികളില്‍ പ്രതിബിംബിച്ചു പ്രകാശിച്ചു. ദക്ഷിണാത്യനായ ഒരു മന്ദമാരുതന്‍ സാനുപ്രദേശങ്ങളില്‍ സമൃദ്ധങ്ങളായി വളര്‍ന്നിരിക്കുന്ന മഹീരൂഹങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രഭാതാല്‍പ്രഭൃതിവികസ്വരങ്ങളായി നില്‍ക്കുന്ന സുരഭിലതരങ്ങളായ കുസുമങ്ങളുടെ പരിമിളധോരണിയെ അധിത്യകകളിലേക്ക് പ്രസരിപ്പിച്ചു. ഇപ്രകാരം യാതൊരു വ്യത്യാസവും പ്രതിബന്ധവും ഇല്ലാതെ സൂര്യരശ്മികള്‍ ഈ പര്‍വ്വതോപരിഭാഗങ്ങളെ പരസ്സഹസ്രം സംവത്സരം ശോഭിപ്പിക്കുകയും ഈ പുഷ്പങ്ങളുടെ സൗരഭ്യം ഗിരിശൃംഗങ്ങളിലേക്ക് ഉദ്ഗമിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കവേ ദൂരദേശങ്ങളില്‍ ജനങ്ങള്‍ പരസ്പരം സ്പര്‍ദ്ധിച്ച് യുദ്ധങ്ങളില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും പ്രബലങ്ങളായ രാജ്യങ്ങള്‍ ഉദ്ഭാവിക്കുകയും ക്ഷയിക്കുകയും ബുദ്ധിമാന്മാര്‍ ഈ പ്രപഞ്ചം ഇപ്രകാരം ഇരിക്കുന്നതിന്‍റെ കാരണത്തെയും ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തെയും അവധാരണം ചെയ്യുന്നതിന് നിഷ്പ്രയോജനമായി പ്രയത്നപ്പെടുകയും ചെയ്തുവന്നു” (അക്ബര്‍ 1894)
സി.വി.രാമന്‍ പിള്ളയുടെ ഗദ്യം.
“ഈ നവലങ്കാനാഥന്‍റെ ഇംഗിതത്തെ ത്രികാലജ്ഞാനശക്തികൊണ്ട് ധരിച്ചിട്ടെന്ന പോലെ അനന്യസാധാരണമായ ഒരു മാതൃകയില്‍ത്തന്നെ അദ്ദേഹത്തെ ബ്രഹ്മാവ്‌ നിര്‍മ്മാണം ചെയ്തു. ഇരുക്കോല്‍ വിട്ടമുള്ള ഒരു വെള്ളകില്‍ ഗോളത്തില്‍ നിന്ന് ശില്പവിദഗ്ദന്‍റെ കൃത്രിമകരകൗശലം കൊണ്ട് നിര്‍മ്മിക്കപ്പെട്ട ആ രൂപത്തെ അംഗംപ്രതി പരിശോധിച്ചാലും മിക്കതിന്‍റെ സൃഷ്ടിയിലും ഗോളധര്‍മ്മം വിസ്മൃതമാകാതെ തന്നെ രൂപനിര്‍മ്മാണം നിര്‍വ്വഹിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരുന്നുവെന്നു കാണപ്പെടും. വിസ്തൃതലലാടത്തിന് പുറകോട്ടുള്ള ചരിവും തെളുതെളുപ്പും നേത്രഗര്‍ത്തങ്ങളില്‍നിന്ന് ഉന്തിനില്‍ക്കുന്ന വട്ടക്കണ്ണുകളുടെ മണികള്‍ക്കുള്ള പിംഗലതയും ചിരിക്കുമ്പോള്‍ കര്‍ണ്ണങ്ങളെ എച്ചിലാക്കുന്ന വായുടെ ദൈര്‍ഘ്യവും പദ്മനാഭസ്വാമിക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ മീനമഹോത്സവത്തില്‍ നിറുത്തപ്പെടുന്ന പാണ്ഡവപ്രതിമകളില്‍ കാണപ്പെടുന്നതുപോലുള്ള ദന്തപ്പരലുകളുടെ വെണ്മയും കഥകളിക്കാരുടെ കറുത്ത കുപ്പായം ശകലിച്ചു പതിച്ചതുപോലുള്ള രോമാവലീഭംഗിയും മിത്രഭേദാപാഖ്യാനത്തിലെ പിംഗളര്‍ഷഭന്‍റെ മുക്കറയ്ക്കൊത്ത ശബ്ദഘോരതയും ശിവകിങ്കരനായ കുണ്ഡോദരന്‍റെ ഹാലാസ്യപുരാണ പ്രസിദ്ധമായുള്ള അതിരോചകതയും സഞ്ചാരത്തില്‍ ‘പാരിലെന്നെയിന്നാരറിയാതവര്‍’ എന്ന് ചോദ്യം ചെയ്യുന്ന തലയെടുപ്പും വദനാണ്ഡംകൊണ്ട് അകാശപത്രത്തില്‍ വൃത്തലേഖനം ചെയ്യുന്നതില്‍ അന്തര്‍ഭവിച്ചുള്ള ഉന്മത്തതയും കൂട്ടിച്ചേര്‍ത്താല്‍, ആ അമാനുഷന്‍റെ ആകൃതിയും ഏതാനും പ്രകൃതികളും ഒരു വിധം ഗ്രഹിക്കാവുന്നതാണ്.” (ധര്‍മ്മരാജാ: 1917)
ശബ്ദകോശത്തിന്‍റെയും സംസ്കൃതശബ്ദകോശത്തിന്‍റെയും സഹായമില്ലാതെ മേല്‍ ഉദ്ധരിച്ച ഗദ്യങ്ങള്‍ വായിച്ചു മനസ്സിലാക്കാന്‍ ആര്‍ക്കു കഴിയും?
ഇനി ഞാന്‍ വേറെ ഒരു ഗദ്യത്തിനുദാഹരണം തരാം. മിഷണറിമാരുടെ ഗദ്യം, നിധീരിക്കല്‍ മാണി കത്തനാര്‍ 1890 ന് മുന്‍പ് രചിച്ച ശോഭരാജവിജയം, കൃപാവതി എന്നീ രണ്ട് നാടകങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്നുള്ള ഗദ്യം വായിച്ചു നോക്കിക്കോളൂ:
“മകനെ, ആ അനുജന്‍റെ സ്നേഹവും സഹോദരഭക്തിയും എനിക്ക് ആശ്ചര്യം തോന്നിക്കുന്നു. എങ്കിലും അവന്‍ അവിശ്വാസിയുടെ വസ്ത്രം ധരിക്കുകയും, ക്രിസ്ത്യാനിയെന്നുള്ള വേദപ്പേരിനെയും ആ വിശ്വാസത്തെയും മറച്ചു വെക്കുകയും ചെയ്തത് വലിയ കുറ്റമാണ്” (ശോഭരാജവിജയം).
സ്ത്രീവിദ്യഭാസത്തിന്‍റെ ആവശ്യത്തെപ്പറ്റി സ്വന്തം സമുദായത്തിന്‍റെ ശ്രദ്ധ ആകര്‍ഷിക്കുന്നതിന് രചിച്ച നാടകമാണ് ‘കൃപാവതി’
“കഷ്ടം! ഈ മൂഢത്വങ്ങളെ പറഞ്ഞു ധരിപ്പിച്ച നിങ്ങളുടെ അമ്മമാര്‍ എത്രയോ അനുശോചനാര്‍ഹര്‍. ഇതെല്ലാം കെട്ടുകഥകളാണ്. അമ്മമാര്‍ക്ക് അറിവില്ലായ്മയാളാണ് അവര്‍ ഈ വകയൊക്കെ വിശ്വസിക്കുകയും നിങ്ങളെ വിശ്വസിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നത്. അഹോ, സ്ത്രീവിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്‍റെ ന്യൂനത ഓരോ ദേശങ്ങളില്‍ എത്രയോ മൌഢ്യങ്ങളെ നട്ടുവളര്‍ത്തിവരുന്നു. പിശാചിന്നു ദേഹമില്ലാത്തതിനാല്‍ കുഞ്ഞുങ്ങളെ (അവയ്ക്ക്) ഭക്ഷണത്തിന് ആവശ്യമില്ല. ഈ പരമാര്‍ത്ഥം ധരിക്കാതെ, തങ്ങളുടെ അരുമസന്താനങ്ങളെ മിഥ്യാബോധങ്ങളില്‍ വളര്‍ത്തുന്ന മാതാപിതാക്കളുടെ സ്ഥിതി എത്രയോ ദയനീയം.”
1893-ലെ എബ്രായക്കുട്ടി നാടകത്തിലെ ഗദ്യശൈലി. ജോസഫിന്‍റെ ഭാര്യ പറയുന്ന ഒരു ഭാഗം ഉദ്ധരിക്കാം:
“ഇതു കേള്‍ക്കണമെന്നേ എനിക്കാഗ്രഹമുണ്ടായിരുന്നുള്ളൂ. ഓനിലെ ആചാര്യനായ എന്‍റെ പിതാവിന്‍റെ ഭവനത്തില്‍ ഒരു വക സന്തോഷത്തിനും കുറവുകൂടാതെ ഇരുന്ന ഞാന്‍ അതെല്ലാം വെടിഞ്ഞ് ഇവിടുത്തെ കൂടെ പോന്നത് മിശ്രയീമിലെ മഹാരാജാവിനെ ഭയപ്പെട്ടിട്ടോ ഇവിടുത്തെ ഉന്നതി ഓര്‍ത്തിട്ടോ അല്ലല്ലോ. അന്നുമുതല്‍ ഈ അടുത്ത കാലം വരെ എന്നെ അറിയിച്ചു കൂടാത്തതായ ഒരു സ്വകാര്യവും ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ഇപ്പോള്‍ ഈ ഭേദം കണ്ടതാണ് എനിക്ക് സഹിച്ചു കൂടാത്തത്.” (മലയാള സാഹിത്യവും ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളും പുറം. 258,259)
ഇവിടുത്തെ സാഹിത്യതമ്പുരാക്കന്മാരുടെ പുച്ഛവും പരിഹാസവുമേറ്റ് മിഷണറിമാര്‍ രൂപം കൊടുക്കുകയും പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്ത അതേ ഗദ്യത്തിലാണ് ഇന്ന് നിങ്ങള്‍ ആ മിഷണറിമാരുടെ സംഭാവനകളെ കുറിച്ച് പറയുന്നവരെ പുച്ഛിച്ചുകൊണ്ടു എഴുതുന്നത് എന്ന കാര്യം മറന്നു പോകരുത്.
