Desperate Housewives LITERALLY saved my uncle's life. Every night, my uncle would go out onto our screened in porch to watch the sunset. He always loved Desperate Housewives, and watched it religiously when it was airing. This particular evening, there was some kind of special that aired which made the episode longer, delaying him going out onto the porch. That same evening, there was a drive-by shooting, one car chasing another, shooting at each other. A stray bullet went through our porch glass and lodged into the moulding where his head would have been.
I still can't believe you're doing these recaps because for how iconic this show was this kind of content for it was next to zero. You deserve way more subs and views.
I literally canceled a coffee date to be able to stay home and watch this hahah Thank you for your amazing work. The Bolens are definetly my favourite temporary family. Angie is the best!
The way Orson views a teenager drunk driving as equivillent to him, as an adult, running someone over ON PURPOSE, drives me crazy. And I consider drunk driving to be homicide by default, no one's more unnuanced about dui as I am yet somehow Orson's still worse lol.
you know what, that's so fair 😭😭😭 I feel the same with drunk driving, and Andrew was obviously def in the wrong, but the two situations are not the same at aaaaall
Actually, Marc Cherry wanted Mike to marry Katherine but he was talked out of it, this really shows in the season considering Katherine has literally nothing to do while Susan I think has way too much on her plate.
this is so underrated but also I only realized halfway through the video I realized carl and carLOS were two different people. I was like "damn Carlos, you married and divorced Susan, currently married to Gabby and having an affair with Bri, keep it in your pants man!"
I love that you dont use clips. You give super detailed descriptions and i really appreciate it cuz i love just listening to these while i do stuff. As far as im aware the only clip youve used is the one of edie(not sure if im spelling it right) from last season and im glad you did cuz she needed her moment!
I absolutely love these deep dives on desperate housewives!! People need to be educated on the masterpiece that is this series. Your videos are so well done, you deserve so many views and praise
I just found you today and have binged the videos of your previous Desperate Housewives videos and I forgot how unhinged this show was when I was teenager and how much I secretly loved it back then.
it really bothers me how the storyline with a gold digger always involves either a latina or a woman from the eastern europe. this is no dig to the video!! i really really love your recaps!! ❤❤❤ it's just that as someone from eastern europe it really hurts to keep on seeing that stereotype repeated in so many shows and movies.
Just found your channel last week and I LOVE this desperate housewives breakdown. I can't wait to watch your future series breakdowns. Ps I would love if you'd consider a Why women kill breakdown.🤞🏽
I found your channel like a week ago and I’ve been binge watching these recap videos. I love them! I did however squeal a little when you said you were going to do a video on Pushing Daisies! I hope that’s still in your plan!
this is such a great video omg but im even more obsessed with your reaction to robin/katherine 😭😭 like that‘s so me that‘s so relatable womens stories matter 😭😭😭
i just love thinking about this storyline and how surprisingly honest and great it was. it just made sooo much sense for her character!!! and dana delany the queen you are……i feel like she always understood the impact it had on the sapphic fans of the show and she was honestly the #1 supporter of gay katherine 😭 its so unfortunate that marc didn‘t listen to her and just. let. her. stay. gay. so im just gonna keep on pretending that katherine is still in paris with robin! anyway had to yap about this for a second!
reeeeeal omg. I can at least rest easy knowing how much Dana loved that element of Katherine's story. and when I met Marcia Cross I literally told her I'm so grateful to her and Dana for being so good and kind and supportive of the lesbians online/who are viewers of the show,, and I told her about my Bree headcanon and she looooooved it. Literally an angel. We love you Dana and Marcia!!!!!!!
ALSO CONGRATS ON GETTING OVER 800 SUBS! Ive been watching your sub count but was putting off watching cuz you said you were uploading this season and i missed u hitting it but I see youre over 800 now! Ive been sharing your vids with as many ppl as possible but i dont have many friends lol
Can I just say the interactions between Mary Alice and the woman playing Eddie’s mother were some of the most compelling scenes within the series (imo) it’s just jarring seeing Mary Alice with pages of dialogue that’s diegetic and happening in-universe. I just wonder why she didn’t do more for Eddie and his mother from the point she met them up until she killed herself
totally agree that the scenes are amazing!!! I love the Eddie episode. As for Mary Alice not doing more, I suppose that just serves to highlight how much is happening within our communities that we aren't systemically equipped to handlle? We see so many people reaching out to Eddie as a teenager-Bree, in particular, gives him a lot of encouragement, and talks to his mother on several occasions. For me that really highlights various shared experiences-Bree and his mom, as alcoholics-and Lynette and Eddie, as children of alcoholics. Thanks for your comment!!! There really is so much to discuss with Eddie and the themes the flashback episode brings up
@@AbbyByrne Very similar to the conclusion of the Arthur Shepard story arc involving Lynette. Sometimes life tends to go on and everything isn’t wrapped up w/ a pretty bow on top. Very much true to the central themes of this series
it's more about painting big picture than any of the individual lines. I'm interested in how DH functions within its genre and how it uses soap conventions, mystery conventions, and dramedy conventions in each season-all within the restrictions put on the writers by the studio/the conventions themselves-that big picture is the purpose of the wall.
I kind of find the whole Eddie storyline problematic since instead of actually judging a killer for his crimes, we blame the mother. This is a recurring thing with serial killers (both fictional and real), we tend to explain them as "monsters who were created by monsters" and ultimately blame the mother. I recommend watching Medusone's video The Time Desperate Housewives Became Pro-Incel and Anti-Mom ( ruclips.net/video/pYS4EYRJjTA/видео.htmlsi=FK7_lP-kuD5_2r7q ). The whole video is great but from 1:30:00 she talks about this phenomenon. I, personally, like Eddie as a character which kind of scares me because he literally murdered women who rejected him. I get that he's had a rough childhood, but that should rather be an explanation than be an excuse for his murdering.
That said, I really like season 6. I just wish they would've introduced Eddie in earlier seasons so the reveal would come as more of a shock to the audience. I would've loved to see him be a recurring side character in both season five and six so that his identity is more established and not that he's just obviously there to be the strangler.
Oooh thanks for the rec!!! Def an interesting + upsetting phenomenon in both fact and fiction. I think ultimately DH might do an *okay* job at balancing this compared to other media, because in the end, Lynette tells him he has to take accountability for what he did and justice has to be served. Eddie is never necessarily redeemed, only explained... Though, the explanation itself is a little frustrating because of the context you've described. I think Lynette's childhood being similar (maybe not as intense as Eddie's, but a neglected child is a neglected child yk), aaalmost works to avoid the blame on the mother... But ultimately having everything about Eddie's backstory in one episode as this huge revelation to explain his actions defeats that nuance. Everytime I watch media that comes down to that loooong explanation about the man's violence, I just think of Sidney in Scream 3's "you know why you kill people? Because you choose to, there is no one else to blame. Take some fucking accountability" 😭😭😭 and I know psychology is not that simple but like.. . . yikes I'm sick of this shit
Didnt like season 6 but loved your recaps and your take on it. For me, how dirty the show dud Katherine is a big reason why i couldnt stand it. The Bolen story fell flat because she is never allowed to gel with the other housewives. The serial killer story was interesting but had little long term impact. The whole season was a mess to me with à few good parts but overall one of the shows weakest season

omg 😭💀
From what I remember they shot Mike's wedding with both Katherine and Susan so even the cast wasn't sure who he'd end up with
katherine was down so astronomically bad this season
carlos was VILE this season i wanted to blind him again
gabby too like she was rlly losing me

I can’t wait for a month from now when I re watch all of your videos again
this season theme was that Susan was clueless. as usual. Love your videos abby!
