Toons is one of those archetypes that should be getting a constant wave of new cards simply due to their lore i.e turning other duelist's monsters into toon versions. Yet Konami decided to limit them to DM monsters aside from just Ancient Gear Golem and Cyber Dragon from GX. They still don't even have a single extra deck monster. We should have a Toon version of every main and rival anime character's ace card (Stardust Toon Dragon, Red Toon Dragon Archfiend, Number 39: Toon Utopia, Galaxy-Eyes Toon Dragon, etc.).

If anyone cares and doesn't already know, Hexproof is specifically targeting protection _from your opponent_ , you can still target a hexproof creature with your own cards/ effects; Hex is a term referring to a spell that's typically in some way harmful, which most spells your opponent would try to cast on your monsters likely are. As a Six Samurai player, I can say with 100% certainty the hate is justified. Modern 6 sam has been a LITERAL solitaire deck for a while. You try and go first, you pray they either don't have ash/droll or you draw your 1 of instant fusion / called by, and you proceed to combo for like 15 minutes while you build a baronne, 4 mat appo, borreload, naturia beast, and a shi en. The only good thing I can say about it, is that at least it's a fun solitaire deck to pilot. As combo decks go, it's variable and flexible, and it doesn't always take the same line even though they do usually wind up with a similar board.
As a gren maju player, cry more, I will continue to absolutely meme on you while going second and I'll do it without even using fissure. You just spam level 8 dangers / kaijus, trigger a bunch of necroface and orochi effects and just walk over their face with some BEEFY LADS. And if you brick and don't draw your gren, you just make draglubion into numeron dragon and kill them that way, get owned nerds.

But, a deck whose sole purpose is to otk (gren maju or numeron for example) do so, with a very specific gameplan: stun and floodgates with some kaijus or every single board breaker. But like the deck has 1 search card. Ojama Blue. Unless you wanna run at least 1 Armed Dragon monster, then you have Ojamatch and a garnet. If you want free combos for link plays, or rank4s, you have to run Ojamassimilation and 3 more garnets. Ojamagic is a broken card but you gotta run 3 more garnets. Ojama Hurricane would be a great payoff card if only we had Ojamandala but that's an anime and Duel Links exclusive card, but we can slowly draw into Tri-Wright and then we got brick central.
Ojamas can do a LOT with their deck, but they could absolutely do better if they actually had support that synergized with the Ojama cards themselves rather than supporting archetypes that don't really fit in. I can feel the part about Gem-knights. I kinda liked playing the deck (in solo mode) when MD came out, found more interesting decks and tried them again for this recent event with a gem-knight loaner including their new support...yeah cool, I can combo off for 2 hours and the result is either an ftk or pass on a bunch of big beaters.
Other than that, I have this irrational hate towards Dark Magicians.
Either they floodgate you to death, slowly banishing your whole life one card per turn or they whip out one of their dozens of weirdly specific "if you control DM, blow up the whole board" cards.
Always feels cheap losing to them. But at least it's pretty satisfying to pop their Eternal Soul.

Rummage is from Rummaging Goblin which discards then draws, Loot is from Faithless Looting which draws then discards, and Impulse is from Act on Impulse which exiles(or banishes) cards from the top of your deck that you can play for a limited time (usually until the end of the turn).

Dark magician not because it’s any good.
Because it has so much freaking support that everyone I swear, has a dark magician deck.
And yeah, let’s just give them a spell flash trap that prevents them from getting affected by anything, except if you blow up the stupid card, in which case everything else gets blown up
Also, appreciate the dragon ball music

In my defense as a Six Samurai player since Dragon Ruler Era, I couldnt afford the synchro varient. I had me 3 copies of the Six Sam structure, and 1 synchro starter structure. And I blended those things together with a bunch of commons at my local shop you could get 20 for $1. I would hard go second and OTK with The A. Forces boosting my board by 1k a monster, then side going second with all the trap holes and rivalrys I could. Simple, yet, effective.

Surprised one of my all time favorites isn't on this list. Look I love PSY-Frames, Psychics are my favorite type and Omega is one of the coolest monsters ever. But I can't deny that all the deck does is bleeding you dry with hand traps and quick synchros untill they win or they fail to get to circuit and lose.

Dude, I remember in MD I had a duel against Timelords vs Sacred Beasts. Since the trap only negates activated effects they still had all their inherent protection, and each time I was able to out one and chip away at his LP he just summoned the next. We both nearly decked out and I legitimately won with fucking armityle of all things with like 2 cards each in our decks.

On the note of Umi control with that stupid Kaiyru shein. I was on a tear at a regional with tear (preishizu and rukcal) and I got hit with 2 people in a row playing that deck. Wanted to scream my head off as I later had to drop due to that double loss leading to a chain of losses.

I'd like to see the opposite of this. Fan favourite decks that are actually really fun and skillful but perhaps aren't as well supported as they need to be to be competitive. Galaxy-Eyes is absolutely in this category. It has no native floodgates, skillful combo paths, important decision making, and access to some of the most powerful rank4/8 monsters in the game AND a counter trap that is arguably the most powerful card ever printed. The deck just needs a good starter and a handtrap to search off of Photon Lord and it's Gucci.

I think what i loved about the yugi boomer era of yu gi oh is that the internet was much less of a thing. You'd go to play a game and see the weirdest rogue decks ever, there was a lot less of a defined meta in the mid to low tier of the game. Sure the odd high end player would have a crazy yata lock but it was rare. These days i load up duel links and see the same 3 or 4 decks with the same cards over and over and over again.

I feel like people were disappointed when they saw my list and realized its just a deck that puts a 3K body on board under TCBOO/Kaiser Colosseum with 1 Omni Negate in the back row. List in comments. But what did you expect? PURE Toons without staples to be competitive? cope

While I can totally understand yugiboomer hate and where it comes from, if one or two cards completely make your deck obsolete, I’d argue that doesn’t make it a good deck? Like, hear me out: most modern archetypes basically boil down to either who goes first, or who draws/pilots better. It’s mostly just like two ships in the night trying to just execute their own combos and not interacting with the other deck until they play into a negate of some sort.
That’s not really all that fun to watch (because you spend most of your time watching duels you’re in because of combo lengths). So, if a single skill drain or floodgate somehow destroys your whole deck, literally how is that any different than modern archetypes? You just do what they spend five minutes to do, but in a single card. At least you’re not keeping them hostage while you do it. And it’s not as though all those long combos are the result of skill, it’s usually just “search x and add to hand/summon” and then effects that are “if x, then y” your way to a board of as many Omninegates as you can play.
How is that any different than the yugiboomers who at least respect your time and say “I activate soul drain, and chain skill drain”?
