Gabriel Medina tears hell out of Desert Point, May, 2022

- Despite the adoration Gabriel Medina justifiably received over at G-Land, outrage and controversy continue at Desert Point on the Indonesian island of Lombok.
Medina and his team reportedly tried to stop all the local videographers and photographers from shooting a single frame of him while he was surfing in their backyard, demanding an exclusive for his upcoming film.
At one point the Medina team allegedly told the local shooters to “Go ask Rip Curl for permission”.
One local shooter responded, “Permission? Permission? To shoot anyone in my waves? My Home? Fuck you, this is how I support my family.”
Heated texts were also the order of the day.
“So Medina or whoever don’t want to support the local community? That is fucked up, bro. You pros make alot of money from coming to my home. I tell you and all your all your friends the filmakers that you can’t make money off us anymore. We are ready to defend our home. And tell Medina and all his filmmakers that they can forget getting any transport to here too”.

I have totally done a 180 on Medina in the last three years. He has always ripped and dominated but he always came off as aloof and douchy. Then I saw some interviews with him and some other professionals talk about him and it changed my mind. He is a solid dude with a great sense of humor. Hopefully he comes back to the tour full time because he pushes the level of competition higher.

Anyway- it’s giant loss for the tour that Gab’s retired from the CT to spend more time with Neymar. But hopefully he’ll come back recharged and better than ever one day!

Regardless, Its surfing. Gabriel has always been a phenomenal surfer. What a surfer's "personality" appears to be for us is not important.

WSL does not allow filming in competitions. You have to ask permission to film independently where the competition is filmed. I believe that the sponsoring surf companies also have this practice. I believe that if they weren't filming for a commercial film, Gabriel wouldn't mind being filmed.

gabe medina back foot is in front of his deck grip which means there's not enough speed. either too much rocker or the wrong fins. I used to suffer this before I redesigned the rocker and then my foot stays back between the fins. I am shocked to see Medina has this problem and hasn't fixed it !

Moving your feet on your board is part of surfing technique. just cause he has the skill and ability to move his feet around doesn't mean he has the wrong board. obviously he knows to have his feet on the pad when he's doing turns. if you need more speed you move your feet forwards. its a basic principal of surfing.
Hahahaha watch any good surfer generate speed or get barrelled! The reason you put your back foot at the top of your tail pad is to shift your weight forward to generate even MORE SPEED!! + gets you more centered over your board so you don't get knocked off while in the barrel 🤙🏽
you can clearly see at @1:17 he comes out of the barrel and then shifts his back foot onto the pad before attempting the air.

The way the judges that judge it , was so unprofessional and very immature of them.
You and Jack are very talented surfers in all levels.
You had around 9 waves and 5 of them was below 6.0 , they are 6.7 to 7.9 or more .
5 out around 9 waves you had 3 to 5 or more moves then he did that was power. That 90 % surfer in the world can never do .
Jack only had 2 out 4 or 5 waves that had more that 4 move .
He should not won that heat .
Jack should went to judges told them that , was unfair how they judge the heat.
If he is true and honest .
He know he did not win that heat.
As for how he did at the Margaret River contest , he deserved ever part of the win. His talent showed that contest.

Who threw more water out the back? I didn't watch that contest. Professional sports is curupt. Tennis players complain about it all the time. Wsl is no exception. Wsl is more like wwf than NFL. Dont spend 2 much time on it.
